Title: Brother
Album: In Bocca Al Lupo
Year: 2006
Genre: alternative rock, folk rock
Lyrics:
Fourteen years have passed since that day
Your stories are the same but the ends have all changed
You carried on like you were some type of god
Some things will never change
We went home to see our folks
We laughed and we told jokes
It was like we were young again
On that deathbed our mother lay
How long she's got they still can't say
It took all this to get us back together again
How long is this going to last
You can't keep reliving your past
Screwing over the ones that you lone
In the name of some new drug
So brother, raise another pint
Rev up the engine and drive off in the night
See you somewhere some place some time
I know there's better brothers but you're the only one that's mine
I know there's better brothers but you're the only one that's mine
The bondsman came to my door early the next day
He said "I come lookin' for you brother
You don't know what kind of trouble that he's in"
How long is this going to last
You can't keep reliving your past
Johnny law keeps a poundin' at my door
'Cause you screwed up some new score
So he's standing in the doorway like he owns the place
With a look of smug satisfaction on his face
I'm gonna give you up
Of that he's sure as hell
But I take one look at him and I know I'll never tell
So brother, raise another pint
Rev up the engine and drive off in the night
See you somewhere some place some time
I know there's better brother's but you're the only one that's mine
So brother, raise another pint
Rev up the engine and drive off in the night
I still look out for you no matter what you heard.
They can knock all of my doors down but I won't say a word.
They can knock all of my doors down but I won't say a word.
Fourteen years have passed since that day and still nothing has changed. - Hudba
The greatest books ever written have been fiction. Why can't a musical artist write a fictional song? Without imaginative authors and songwriters writing and singing these great fictional stories, the world would be a dull place. There's no need to have personal experience to write something. You just need to be inspired.
I very much agree with you.
The cello parts in this song are so amazing. Listen on some good headphones and they really stand out
after 3 years i finally found this song
As somebody who's been going through this stuff for quite some time I find this song eerily relatable.
Yeah you got that right brother
in 13 years, im gonna sing this to my brother, so i can say "14 years have passed since that day"
hmmm...maybe make sure he knows though? at least?
im with ya tho i love it
@@quesocfh6080 thats the plan, also, he could do some quick math and think "2018 was the time that our lives were changed bc that thing that happend"
I love his voice!
one of my fav's
His voice has some Rev Horton Heat in it.
love this
Today on songs I could listen to over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and ov
sending this to my brother :)
You must not like country or folk. You know music with stories.
I agree completely. I was just trying to say that something ring true and seem to come from a deep feeling and some seem more I don't know, as you say great fiction. Everyone gets something different out of music, it was just the way things came across to me.
I lived on the streets for years and I guess that kind of thing was my life for a long time and I struggled out of it as best I could. Just because it doesn't resonate with me doesn't mean it's not an awesome song for other people :)
@TheHatersRevolution Whoa. That just blew my mind.
This song feels like how Eddie Dean feels toward his brother, Henry.
7 years after this comment ive come to say thankee-sai
Iknow theres beter brothers but you are the only one thats mine
7 people don't have a Brother. /:
Cool shit
Huh, that's some really bluegrassy punk. Cool stuff.
I don't think your opinion is very well-founded. Music can be just as much about story telling as it is about personal life experiences. Would you say that it didn't' make sense for Barrie to write Peter Pan because he had never been to Neverland?
@Bokkapigen because a lot of people do not know good music
What's the difference between "Pancho and Lefty" and this?
You're right I guess, I suppose John Prine, Townes van Zandt, Harry Partch, George Brassens, Leonard Cohen, Boris Vian, Sandy Denny, Altan, Billy Holliday, Elliott Smith and all those folk weren't much interested in telling about life. Can you suggest a good place to start, I'm always keen to learn :)
I wouldn't call being repeatedly raped and abused, on the streets from the age of 13-22 cosey or upper-class but hey, definitions differ. I never said these things weren't real or incredibly important, it seemed pretty clear to me that he was making it up and hadn't lived it. I mean take Townes van Zandt (Marie, Waiting Round To Die, etc) - there the story and pain and sheer overwhelming terrible beauty of someone who has lived this kind of life is clear as crystal. Here it seems contrived.
im the 8,888th view (:
Makes me think of Supernatural.
Arcane but wrong pronouns lol
@TheHatersRevolution Gerard Way did a song with them.. Devil in mexico
My brother's actual wife moved to Denver without permission. She had a baby. It was taken from her. The childhood neighbors cousin ok her to the strip club. They call her Erin. My sister in law strips to dubstep in front of the Arvada neighbors. Her husband is married to a neighbor with a bastard. Johnny law keeps knocking on my door. My brother is a dimwit and his wife strips at the club. It's a stripper. The Arvada watchmen took her there. She doesn't know it yet. They exploited his wife. My brother better pray I'm not home for my mother's death bed. I thrash. I don't party or strip.
Not a great deal I guess, I'm sorry to have caused offense.
With TvZ he had an absolutely horrible life and to me it shows through in a certain way, a certain empathy, compassion or whatnot. First time I listened to Brother I thought it was fantastic, second time I listened it just rubbed me up wrong that's all. It's hard to put your finger on these things. Come to think of it this is good in a Cormack McCarthy kinda way, I just got drunk and let my irritation do the talking ;)
My problem with this kind of song is that it's obviously not based on real personal experience, to me it doesn't make sense to write without authenticity. That's just my position, plenty of people feel very differently and that's a good thing. Music is to be enjoyed after all :)
I love the music but not too fond of the singer's voice
jorshkC You're wrong!
jorshkC The singers voice is awesome :D
