Dax Riggs - Thing In A Jar (With Lyrics)

- Since I couldn't find a copy of this recording on CZcams, I decided to upload it myself. Enjoy.
Lyrics:
Outside rainbows, monsters melt, stranger still;
Split into two people, laugh and it smoulders.
We turn into children, with donkey tales and ears,
The puppeteer's pretty one hangs in the doorway.
I'm your thing in a jar, all illuminated,
At night the moon eats the stars,
And we are all illuminated .
I have a rage, but it's not hatred, all illuminated,
It's just all illuminated, all illuminated.
I thought I heard a song in your voice but I was wrong,
I thought I heard your song in my head but it was my own.
I once held it in my hand for awhile but, now it's gone,
I thought I heard your song in my head but it was my own.
I'm your thing in a jar, all illuminated,
At night the moon eats the stars,
and we are all illuminated.
I have a rage, but it's not hatred, all illuminated,
Its just all illuminated, all illuminated.
I weep for the people who will never hear this voice.
My brother fucking hates Dax lol sometimes I’m surprised people know who he is if they aren’t in LA or Austin (or any part of Texas really)
I’m just happy I was able to see him live, I’m sure I he wanted to punch me because I was like DEAD GIRRRRRLLLLLLUHHHH
Same here.
mae mumbles his music is everywhere fortunately. He plays in North Carolina from time to time, and I first learned about him in a tiny ass town in Mississippi.
Hes not as known as he should be. I think the fault is on his Record Company deleting evrything from CZcams.
That’s why we do gods work and preach the gospel of dax
"I have a rage, but it's not hatred." Is one of the best lyrics put to paper.
Accurate🎯
Agreed
Ifkr
Amen
Αha!
"I have a rage, but it's not hatred..."
Thank you, Dax, for explaining the heart of my own frustrations so succinctly and beautifully.
I love this song.
Used to go see his shows when I was a young teenager. There was an amazing underground grunge scene in the late 90's where I live. Acid bath was his band then. His voice is imitated but never duplicated.
Stories I would love to hear
Down in FL?
Amber Davis Oh okay.. makes sense. I had some friends over in Destin that said Acid Bath used to crash at their place when the were playing in that area. I saw Dax at One Eyed Jacks in the middle of Voodoo fest weekend one year, around when Deadboy came out. Chatted with him for a bit after. Then saw him at a smaller place in Ocean Springs where I live and got to hang out with him. Super talented singer. Yes indeed One of a kind vocals.
Wow you wrote this 8 years ago...time flies. I love beautiful music fans.
Ur such a lucky mf
Dax has saved my life on more than one occasion. I have seen him progress as an artist and still tear up over some songs.....this being one. He is more than an artist too me. He is amazing
No voice has ever moved me more!
I hate myself for only discovering this amazing voice tonight. His voice gives me butterflies 😍
It's been 2 years, do you hear the butterflies screaming yet?
Bleeding white butterflies
Dax Riggs is an underrated lyrical genius.
Yes Yes yes yes yes YES YESSSSS!!♡♡Speachless
If, as has been said, brevity is the soul of wit, Dax is the wittiest
man alive... he can say more in a short paragraph than most people say
in a lifetime... write 8 or 12 lines, set them to haunting music, whip
out another song that grabs your soul in both hands and bashes your
brains out with it... I would call Dax God but he'd probly punch me in
the face for it and i've been told it's unwise to piss off a genius...
and he has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, (this from a guy
who prefers female singers, but HOLY SHIT that man's voice is awesome!)
I said to him he was like Jesus, but I was an atheist. He chuckled and didn't say anything. After the show I had a long conversation with him and his band. He's very approchable.
Best vocals that have ever been recorded. I keep coming back to this.
This version is from a 2003 recording called Velvet Songs for Golden Skulls(Which is a studio recording, but I'm unsure if it has ever been released), but there is a different version of it on the live recording Things In Jars from 2004. He usually plays it live, but it hasn't appeared on any official albums yet.
I was there it was so nice
Always loved this song. Dax, thank you for being amazing.
Saw him in Saratoga NY. Right when say goodnight to the world came out. Was a fan of acid bath first and have loved everything he's touched. Come on with the new album Dax
someone listening Dax Riggs in 2017-18?
Always
Alwaaaays
Yup
•Néïssa• me
Those in the know.
I am not sorry for anyone who hasn't fallen into the bath of Acid! Dax is a true artist! He knows that an "Acid Bath" reunion would be jumping firewhoreks over left the right... I admire how he is very personal and let's his art speak! I am glad for myself and the rest who didn't bail on Sir Dax Riggs when he went his own way! I am so glad to have such a true blues and rock musician who hasn't whor'd out for something more than! I love how the D.R. fans are able to keep this music going! I'd feel bad if ever Dax Stopped being Dax! From 9th grade on with so much gratitude to this Artist for being there for us when we were alone. \m/
I still believe he did a vocal musical farewell to Acid Bath in his song A song with no name. And that was it. No more.
me too I feel sorry for the ones who will never hear a masterpiece like this
Dax…the voice. Nothing like it- ❤️
This song speaks truth. It's awesome. And dax is awesome live. He rule's!
I can't believe there are people, or even bots, who don't love Dax... what's not to love?! His voice is incredible, his words grab you by the guts and twist in the most beautiful way, and even his covers blow the originals away... who else could cover Leonard Cohen, for crap's sake? I guess some people just don't get it... sux to be them!
Red Clark m hi
Dax will never recieve the recognition he so sorely deserves...But the underlying beauty here is he could care less.
How could anybody have this much perfectly pitched vibrato in their vocals !?!?!?!?!?
This song isn’t on Spotify , as a result I frequent CZcams specifically for this track . 👌🏽🔥🎼
Vocals that will make an eternity in hell that much more bearable …
Sike !
Hell isn’t real 😂😛
Donkey Tails and Ears reference the carnival children in Pinnochio. In other versions you'll note he doesn't drop the octave on that particular part of the verse, which is why it sounds like he's pronouncing 'deer heads'.
LOVE THIS SONG!dax riggs is my hero.lol.been down since like middle school im almost 30.
Thank you Mosi for sending me this way 😊
Dax Riggs is the truth
This song penetrates the soul.
I love how it's mastered in the highest volume. It makes my car ghetto style shake
I do love people who post lyrics in the description. I love YOU in particular even more for putting this here, it was so beautiful it gave me goosebumps.
This is actually a cover of the original that was written by another band. I forgot what they're called but I just found this out a few months ago after being obsessed with this song for years
Bring it backroads in Louisiana bruh, I love this shit, brings me back
I must say I completely agree with the whole Jim Morrison thing. Dax is less "in your face" these days, but I love everything he's ever done.
Imagine sitting down with a girl, first date, on the beach, with a guitar, sunset... and you play/sing this song to her. IN. THE. BAG.
I remember when he was playing hole in the wall places in Morgan city la. And u still rock lol
Holy fuck I love this dude!!! it's like hearing my soul speak to me for the first time.
Dax is the modern times Nick Drake.
Telrunya598 Exactly! Soo ! The talent of Genuis's
Thank you for this quality recording. i had it a while ago, i don't know where from but i missed this song.
Very awesome song.
Just a God doing his thing..
Your better off trying to find a show in texas, as he lives in Austin now. He plays in my hometown Longview a few times a year at a bar called the levee.
Love it when he sings "it's just all illuminateeeeeeed"
Weird no one mentions acid bath
....you did
I love Acid Bath...Pagan Terroism Tactics is amazing..when the kite string pops is phenomenal
People mean no disrespect by it I think. Dax is just a timeless artist. Meaning he is also a great solo artist.
Not weird, just respectful. Let this masterpiece stand on its own
@@kimmierae70 you clearly don't get it.
Thank you for the upload
I named my son after this guy.
coolest parent ever
Ran out of the theater when I was young. Pinocchio Donkey tails. Step right up.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
This song could just end at 1.30 and it'd be absolute perfection instead of just perfection
.
I hum unintentionally the way she was humming in my ear in bed.
One of those days i had put Dax playing from my phone and she didnt like him.
this is a great recording..I dont recognize where it came from
but very good
fucking brilliant
Ugh, fucking awesome version of this song. :) Thank you.
So apparently there are 5 nazis who dislike this... Lol
Hahahaha. Right on!
fuckin nazis man
Bright to add one more
the lyrics you've added are a bit off. for reference, listen to the original by The Velvet Watchband..
@cmriders37 It's from a 2003 recording called Velvet Songs for Golden Skulls.
This song was to beautiful for 47 people they just couldn't comprehend it
So fucking beautiful them vocals
💚
If anyone could be dax Riggs ..it would be you
With love from iceland
Greatest singer ever. (sorry Maynard)
THANK YOU!@
Corona Virus got us all in a jar
@ Julie Holtsclaw nah, it's not "deer heads" lol
Yeah it's definitely not deer heads! Sounds like he's maybe making a Pinocchio reference.
hapahoney That what I saw too, the donkey tails and ears...
Dax is the truth
I've been listening to Dax since Agents and hadn't heard this until tonight... incredible. what is this from?!
there is a very large collection of live recordings of dax available to torrent. his early solo work is all amazing. im a big fan of acid bath and solo dax. deadboy is good too.
SpookyApparition solo shit he did after deadboy the first album. first group. he traveled around ms and LS and wherever just him and a fuckin guitar. and that is some of my favorite stuff.
it's just all illuminatied
nice
Im prob the only kid in the world who likes this :D
My son when he was young liked Dax your probably not the only kid that likes him.
Relatable
What cd is this song from, if anyone can answer I have every cd he's been a part off except agents of oblivion and this song isn't on any of them
HinT was listening.
Oh my god
coolest fucking voice ever
I want to take my Bro to a Dax show in Louisiana. Anyone with.any info...
was this on an album?
@pearljambuff No problem. :)
I think he is singing about Radium RA atomic number 88
It has me envision a small organic microbe in a jar sitting on a table in front of a window, going through the seasons days and nights, it feels an unknown form of evolution making it want to change, to speak, to grow and do what it sees it's fellow beings doing outside of the jar, and at night the moon and the stars illuminate all through the jar in one, as if a universe was in it, because to that microbe, it is, and that's all it has, and all that ever happens.
Is this an original song?
yeah if you can sing like dax
Boogers
Mrzim se
Don't ...
Correction on the first verse: "We turn into to children with donkey tails and deer heads."
Nope... it's a reference to a scene in Pinocchio, when boys turn into donkeys. "Donkey tails and ears" is correct.
I hatis song
It's "meet the stars"... I'm just saying.
*meets*
but there are some recordings where he actually says "the moon will eat the stars"
+Airsoftgunkid I've listened to this a dozen times and he makes absolutely no "m" sound... Pretty certain its the moon eats the stars. Sounds the same in all the versions that I've heard.
Sounds like a generic hipster Chris Cornell
haha, actually he sounds like a much better version of Cornell
He’s also been around just as long as Cornell and was in a much heavier band than you could ever hope to lift with two hands.
Mix between Cornell and Jeff Mangum
This version is from a 2003 recording called Velvet Songs for Golden Skulls(Which is a studio recording, but I'm unsure if it has ever been released), but there is a different version of it on the live recording Things In Jars from 2004. He usually plays it live, but it hasn't appeared on any official albums yet.
