The Trey Murphy injury was a blessing in disguise. Hawk has gotten so many reps with the starters and bringing him off the bench against weaker lineups will have him cooking. Running him, Trey, and Matt Ryan will open up so much for BI and Zion. Stoked to see him getting the respect he deserves
I think most of this plays were ment for Trey Murphy III and since he got injured they realized that Jordan Hawkins can also play that role. This discovery will be huge for them come playoffs time because having two different player that can execute the same play makes it so much harder to guard, each one will put their minor spin on it making it harder for the defender to figure out exactly how to counter it.
Trey doesn't shoot off that much movement so I dont think this was meant for him. Trey is more that type that'll just pull up from 30 feet or attack the rim.
Trey is more of a stationary shooter. He shoots from further out and slightly more consistantly, but still not as ridiculous as Hawkins is potentially going to shoot. That said, Trey is a huge finisher at the rim as well as a great defender, he has complete ice in his veins, both at the line and at the end of the game and already evolved into a passer a bit too. I'm not seeing Hawkins being a top defender just yet, but he's a great rebounder for his size, he's really quick in transition and you can already see he can be a good playmaker too. His passing and knowing where players are isn't yet there, but he makes good split second decisions, despite not always having the best execution yet. This will come in time.
The Pelicans front office honestly deserves massive respect. Hawk, Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, even Naji Marshall and Jose Alvarado.. ALL steals that have shown great potential coached by a gritty new coach to the league. Pels don't get enough credit for that, they could realistically have one of the best runs for a young team.
This comment right here.... Griff was under heavy fire when Pels was on 10 game losing streak about a year and half ago in that playoff year,. He said be patient they will turn this around and guess what? Ppl are starting to see the vision. He's been hitting past couple drafts. Been playing Hawkins in fantasy for a few weeks now and it's so exciting to see him blossom while giving the pels much needed 3 point shooting. Smart player, and had a feeling about him when watching UConn on their national championship run. Love the love shown here Tucker!
As a Pelicans fan I was hoping the team would go after Lively since we need rim protection. But if we hadn't drafted Hawkins we'd be F'd to start the year with injuries. Dude had to step into a spotlight role and he showed he's a player. He's streaky as hell. But when TM III comes back and CJ gets back into shape, BI and Z will rack up assists with shooters nailing wide open 3's.
Excellent video and its great to see someone is at least not sleeping on Jordan Hawkins. Even the better podcasts I listen to fail to talk about the Pelicans and this rookie gets completely left out of conversations. When I was listening to a podcast specifically about this year's tookie class, his name comes up, but still all the talk is about Wemby, Chet, Cayson Wallace and Ausar Thompson. I love all these guys, but the insane NBA readyness of Hawkins is just remarkable and he's only going to get better.

Ray Allen has always been a favorite player of mine, and ive been saying since Hawkins was at UCOnn he reminded me of a second coming of Ray Allen..he will be one of the best 3 point shooters in the league.
So i saw him playing against the timberwolves wondering who he was. Definitely didn't look like a rookie. His off ball movement is off the charts and way above most rookies. Watched the pelicans again in the play in game against the clippers and he made a few shots. Rookie of the year is a stretch but i do understand what you are saying that nobody is paying attention to him. I just appreciate his off ball movement and basketball iq. He's a defensive liability though and still gets into foul trouble. He's definitely going to become a sharp shooter. Reminds me of Keegan Murray.
These are some of the skills I tell kids about all the time. Cutting, moving without the ball, and reading the defense isn't emphasized nearly enough at youth levels. People see Steph and Dame pull up and splash, but not the work that goes into setting that shot up, or the incredible shape they're in conditioning wise.
Certainly a good player, but it's a little early to annoint an undersized guard chucking 3s barely above league average from a small sample size as any sort of next coming.
This is hatin😂 6'5 is literally the average for an sg and above average for gaurds in general(which is 6'4) hes 2 percent above average while also being 8th in attempt, contributing for a good team and he's only a rookie. Stop it.
