Simeon Rice. 67.5 sacks in only 5 full seasons with the Buccaneers after playing well in Arizona. Helped elevate the Bucs Defense from great to legendary in 2002.
Simeon Rice was definitely an underrated rusher. He was amazing in the early-mid 2000s

Priest Holmes #1 steal of all time. My man rushed for 4,590 yards and 56 TDs in 3 seasons and was only making $1.5 million a year.

Two other honorable mentions: Jaguars receivers Jimmy Smith who signed as a FA in 1995 and Keenan McCardell who came along in 1996.
Jimmy Smith has never gotten the respect he deserved.
Drew Brees was so good that despite all the times he fell short in his career, he was still the best pickup in Free Agency we've seen, and arguably a top 5 QB of all time. Insanity.

@@forevertj it’s not about his rings. It’s about how he was just isn’t a top 5 QB. Brady, Montana, Manning, Unitas, Rodgers, Favre, Marino are all better than Brees. How can a QB with no MVP be top 5 all time? MVP isn’t the end all be all. But every season he was outperformed by another QB. So he wasn’t even the best QB season during his career. No way he’s top 5 all time. Maybe top 15?

Yeah when I saw that price I was like damn that’s it but I guess because it was just 1 year they couldn’t put it higher
1 million in 1994 is almost 2 million in 2022 with inflation. Also the league then was worth 1.62 billion and the league today is worth 6.5 billion. Even with inflation the nfl still makes twice the money they did in 1994.

If the Saints had better defenses from 2010-2016 they would have had more superbowls. Brees carried that team to 7 wins and people don't realize how good the offense really was because they just see 7-9 and forget how bad the defense truly was.

He showed our young guys how to win. People don't realize this but the culture of the Ravens changed when they signed Rod Woodson.
Antoine Winfield was about to sign with the New York Jets, and a deal was reported by ESPN as being done. 24 hours later, he signed with the Vikings because he made a promise to the Vikings coaching staff that he would visit them, and didn't want to break his promise. Winfield played 9 years with the Vikings and made three Pro Bowls. That worked out quite well

Honorable Mention 2: Safety Rodney Harrison signed with New England in 2003 and helped them win two Super Bowls.
I remember Belichick getting killed for cutting Lawyer Milloy because he was such a big part of the 2001 team, but it clearly worked out with Harrison there.

Honorable mention: Recent retiree Andrew Whitworth who anchored the left side of Rams offensive line for 5 years.
As far as actual steals Priest Holmes amd Rich Gannon are 1/2. The rest were already either all time greats or had very short time production while Priest was a backup who went to KC and had some top 20 all time RB seasons and Rich turned Oakland completely around
Brees had lost the starting job and had become a backup with the chargers and had actually been offered a back qb contract by them before he entered free agency. For that reason i feel he is still an actual steal because he had previously been a backup

If Ron Wolfe hadn't been so effing bullheaded, he could've signed both Tony Bennett and Bryce Paup. Those two, combined with Wayne Simmons, would have comprised the greatest linebacker trio in Packers' history and would have resulted in at least another Super Bowl win in the mid-nineties.
