  • Toy Biz revolutionized the action figure industry and many fans still prefer their design style to that of their successor, Hasbro. Will this new series of throwback collectibles be able to bridge the gap or will the problems people find with Hasbro's tendencies prevent universal acceptance?

    I would be much happier with the Legends line as a whole if they all turned out this good.
    Granted he's about 7-10 dollars more, but he comes with way more accessories and a decent paint job. I'd much rather pay that to get figures like this, than pay the base price for the basic, placeholder figures like Darwin or Speedball.
    The sad thing is though that even at this price, not even Iron Man or Toad come with the same level of paint or accessories. So just another example of picking and choosing the good ones and skipping the lazy ones.

    One of the few Hasbro Figures I've purchased this year. Regular Marvel Legends are definitely not worth $35 though. That's getting into Mythic Legions territory but without the Mythic Legions level of paint detail or the passion behind them. My personal opinion is that the toy collecting bubble has popped over the last month, at least as far as retail collecting goes. All the small companies are now beating the big companies in terms of quality and value. Still love MOTU Origins though. I hope those continue on for years to come. The nostalgia is through the roof for me on those.

    For me, I love the brighter color scheme of the figure. The bright blue and the headsculpt gives me some major Jack Kirby vibes. It’s a good retro Cap that looks better than the other comic book caps I came across, so this one is a pickup. I certainly like it better than the other 3 in this line. Iron Man is too bright, Hulk looks really blocky, and I know nothing about Toad.
    I’m hoping we get a Thor in this line.

  • @marvelblackredandthunder2823

    Awesome review, man. Love how you keep it real and objective. And I 100% agree, you shouldn’t be able to stick an accessory in a gap. Bothered me enough not to feel any FOMO for this fig. So thank you 😅 an AC overall 9.0 and up is my benchmark for purchasing new figs, 8.5 if I really like the character. Cheers, man. More to come!

    For me, would've been a home run if it was 30 bucks. For me the positives overlap the negatives. Solid cap, but 35 bucks is pushing it. Good amount of accessories which makes it worth it, but negatives are still there. We need stands with $20 price point anyway.

    Not bad but your photoshops really show how a good figure can be a great figur3. Aside from that the only other thing I would’ve liked is if maybe there was a couple of black highlights on the mask like how he’s drawn in some of the comics.

  • @AlphaProto
    @AlphaProto Před 2 lety +18

    In the comics, I do prefer the darker blue and the utility belt.
    This Cap would fit great in a Marvel VS Capcom display. The colors are very similar to the sprites in that game.

  • @tomtudorweaver1078
    @tomtudorweaver1078 Před 2 lety +6

    I wasn't the biggest fan of the 80 Years version, on top of being too dark of a colour for me and terrible paint on both heads on my copy something about it just wasn't fun to me, so I was happy to get this as a replacement and I do really like this figure.
    I had it for a day and the clip on the shield broke, so I ended up using one of the random trigger hands that came with the recent Dormammu and just use that to hold the shield via the peg for the back, not ideal but works well enough.
    It's definitely the only of the 20th anniversary figures I'm getting, Iron Man and Hulk are just not designs that interest me, with Marvel Legends I try to stick to just one version of each character and the 80 Years versions of those two are pretty much spot-on my ideal designs for them, but I can appreciate that for collectors who like those designs they're fine alternatives.
    Toad looks good, very modern but still good however WAY too overpriced, I'd only consider getting him if he went on sale, at least the other 20th anniversary figures have other versions out there, or have had other versions relatively recently in some form that released for cheaper prices, Toad hasn't which sucks.

    Once again, the photoshop squeezes out our fanboy tears! Lol I think $30 is fair but for $35 they could’ve also included a shield without holes, or at least some plugs 🤷🏽‍♂️

    The main thing I don't understand about this figure is the crappy Grim Reaper hips. This is based on the dark blue 80 years cap. That has sculpted fabric wrinkles on the hips and it can do a far superior side split.
    I managed to get this a few months ago for £18 so I was happy. The full price is stupidly insane. All the extras: hands, head effects etc, should come with a Marvel Legends.

    What really sucks is that this figure has actually jumped in price on sites like Amazon - third party sellers have this guy listed for $50 or more because people ate it up so quickly. If it stuck around and went on sale like the 20th Ann Iron Man did, it would be an instant purchase for me, because I can easily look past the shortcomings at a lower price. I'm very happy with Ultimate Cap, but I really want a classic version for my Legends Avengers - looks like I'll be waiting to see how their next attempt turns out. Thanks for the review!

  • @drunkpandainc
    @drunkpandainc Před 2 lety +1

    I like that photoshop, would be awesome if it looked like that. I am not thrilled about the holes in the shield, for the price they should have dropped the stand and gave us a non holed shield. the limited legs also bother me. All in all i got a good one with no paint issues and the eyes are straight, for me its a solid 8 and is for a Captain America and the avengers arcade game team. I just wish there was a good MK 9 comic version to round out the team.

    Picked up an A-o-A Cyclops the other day off a clearance rack at Target thinking I could either use him for parts or deck him out like the old Toybiz version; After messing around with the articulation a bit (with their mish-mash of pin-less tech and older pinned joints), it became pretty quickly evident Hasbro retooled the lower portion of the Bucky-Cap mold for far more impressive side split than the mold previously had. It's crazy to me to see how limited this figure still is in his side-kick when it's clear that they're reworking pre-existing molds to allow for greater range of motion. Maybe they figure he'll get bought up regardless. He still looks great at least; It really reminds me of the 90's live action flick but that weak side-kick is a peeve beyond irksome in the microscope of *action* figures.

    I'm really loving all the head sculpts on these figures!
    After doin a little research I found out that all the 20th Anniversary Legends (& the new Classic Dr. Strange) head sculpts were done by an artist/sculptor named Paul Harding. They're also all based on art he did 2 years ago that you can Google called "Marvel in the 1970's". I feel like these head sculpts really bring these characters to life and give them more personality as opposed to the 'random generic hero' look that we tend to get more often than not. Even the 80th Anniversary Thor and Hulk's heads look a bit bland when side-by-side. Just thought I'd share that with you & hoped you'd appreciate it being that you're a sculptor yourself. Looking forward to your 20th Anniversary Hulk review! I'm so much more happy with how it came out vs the 80th 2-pack Hulk.

      @@AnthonysCustoms well I certainly look forward to your reviews, because I'm falling into the category of getting the spider man and venom two packs just because they seem to be the "best" versions of those characters, but I can't decide if I want to get the rest of not. Iron spider looks so cool, but for $37 plus shipping and tax??? Jesus

    The price point for this one just isn't worth it when the new hips actually have worse range than the original release. It shortened the thigh gap, but that's one step forward, one step back. The ugly shading doesn't help either.

    You are right in all the issues you pointed out, but its still the best comics Captain America hasbro has ever made. The faceoff Cap was great for its time, but looks outdated, with overly bulging traps that makes him look like a Hulk Cap.

  • @TheMattTrakker
    @TheMattTrakker Před 2 lety +1

    I bought this, I think I might like it a little more than you did. For me, it's my favorite cap they've released and is probably the last cap I buy from legends, so I was ok with the higher price point for what you get.
    I think the discussion of whether these higher priced anniversary ones are worth it over a standard release depends on how you feel about the price on the standard release. I've basically stopped getting legends at 24.99 or whatever the spiderman ones are. I'll buy them if I find ones I like on sale, but 25 is too much for what a normal release is, imo.
    I would say that I think this one is worth $7 more than a standard figure is. Ironman is one of my favorite characters, but I passed on the anniversary one because I didn't think it was worth the price. I'm more willing to pay this price for a well done figure with a lot of accessories than I am for the garbage they charge 25 for, but I'm going to be very picky about which ones I buy at this price point.

  • @nhyar

    I don't like that poor shading attempt... It looks bad, in my opinion.
    Also, I don't really understand why would they change the hips?
    The 80th anniversary Cap had hips that would go all the way to the sides.
    I don't know, man... Hasbro keeps raising their prices and the figures aren't really "there" yet.
    Every time they release something good they find a way to stop it from being great.
    And yeah, I'd prefer stylized molds over normal people bodies... I have high hopes on MAFEX to deliver the ultimate Cap.
