  • A trip through my body. On New Years Eve, 2022, I was diagnosed with ocular melanoma, a rare form of eye cancer. The tumor was large (16mm wide by 7mm deep), close to the center of vision, and I had a retinal detachment due to the fluid buildup from the tumor. Getting brachytherapy (radiation) would leave me functionally blind and I would probably have cataracts and lifelong glaucoma as a side effect. And there was a 5% chance of the tumor growing back!
I opted to have my eye enucleated. That means it was completely removed from my head and replaced with an orbital implant.
Between diagnosis and getting my eye removed on February 22, 2022, we did full body scans to detect any metastasization. My scans came out clean, so I'm technically cancer-free at the moment.
I ordered a disc from the radiology department of all my scans. It's with this software that allows you to create animations of your scans. I combined my favorite ones with some creepy music.
The head scans go from top to bottom and front to back and side to side. if you watch closely you can see the tumor in my left eye. It will look like a big black half circle.
The Torso scans are mostly neck to thigh slices. You can see the lungs and the liver and the pelvis and even my penis enter the frame. Hah!
