I got my ChiaGoo TWIST Shorties (a small interchangeable set designed for 9"+ sock knitting and can be used also for lace) yesterday as we ordered them for an early birthday present for me. I just love them. It is amazing how small the screw threads are and they hold well when tightened. They give you two different length tips 2" & 3") in sizes: 0 (2.0mm), 1 (2.25mm), 1.5 (2.5mm), 2 (2.75mm), 2.5 (3.0mm), and 3 (3.25mm). These same TWIST Shorties can be purchased individually also in sizes 00 and 000 (sorry don't have the mm sizes on those handy).
They come with three cords and the cords and joins are amazingly small, with couplings to make one long cable should you choose. What is nice is that each set of sizes comes with two needle tips each of the 6 sizes enumerated above but in both 2" needle length and also 3" needle length. The joins are absolutely smooth, I feel no drag on the join when knitting in the round.
I had tried a bamboo set from Clover Takumi with a fixed 9" circular which I took back as both tips were 2" with the dog leg bend, in bamboo from the local Joann store, but I could not get used to them. I took them back and got DPNs instead.
I literally LOVE these ChiaGoo needles, I can assemble themselves according to my comfort. Like you, I am an English knitter but I also flick so there is less movement of my throwing hand so it is quite like Continental but it is so-o-o-o comfortable. There is no dog-leg bend which I have never liked in my circular needles. I use the 3" needle on my right hand as it gives me just a bit more to grip and my hands relax and there is no cramping at all.
I do know how to knit Continental also but I find that if I were to perhaps use both 2" tips for that and one of the longer cords, but I don't find the Continental as comfortable in the way I have set up the needles so much. But in this set up for me, it is absolutely PERFECT for English Flicking.
I could not believe until I proved it to myself how much more efficient it is to knit this small circumference this way. I also at the same time ordered the Addi Flexi-Flips in the bamboo as I am used to that. Only Addi makes their US Size 1, actually 2.5 mm and when I knit with them, as I did ribbing, when I will take out, not because it is bad quality, but my sox fit perfectly on size 1 and the yarn I am knitting is too pretty for my husband. I worked up in a few hours last night 6"! With the Addi FlexiFlips it took all day to get 4"!!!
My knitting is not looser but my grip is and there are no painful fingers and this is saying a lot as I have recovered from arthritis which I was able to identify as a severe reaction to the protein in dairy. Quit dairy entirely and use plant-based milks and all the arthritis is gone and also from other joints. So no more wheelchair either. But my hands needed further rehabilitation and knitting I did since childhood, I had quit entirely due to the pain, I now find is very therapeutic for my fingers. I could not type either and as you can see, I have no difficulty now.
I LOVE your video, and thank you for your wonderful review. I do have a set of interchangeable knitting needles, a full set, by Knitter's Pride. I got them in the bamboo as after I discovered the milk sensitivity, I did not want metal needles as if I might find them toxic to me in some way. Now the surgical stainless steel needles are fine, but cannot use aluminum or any needles that contain nickel as I get a rash from that and my fingers split.
The Flexi-Flips from Addi, I got in the bamboo but did not realize that their metal needles including their Addi Clicks, have nickel in them. This means if I want a future set compatible to what I currently love, then I'll go with ChiaoGoo all the way. I just can't say "LOVE" enough. So I was glad I got the bamboo from Addi but was unaware until watching another video that they use nickel. KnitPicks have also a nickel plated needle set so either these companies are not aware that nickel causes severe allergy in some individuals or they'd rather hide is as now they are set up for making them and they don't want to change. Phooey on them, ChiaoGoo tells you all about the nickel allergy and why their needles won't give you a reaction. They know their stuff and don't want to make a product which will hurt anyone. Bravo to ChiaoGoo!
Thank you again for your lovely video.

Wow thank you. It looks that the left needle is more in vertical position and right horizontal.... I need to try it I think I try to hold the same way as standard needles - 👍🏻😃💕

Knitting I Love that sounds pretty much right. It took me a while to find a comfortable way to knit with them but i have no problems now with my hands, which considering I do have problems gripping small things with my hands is pretty good.
I hope it works for you too:) Heather

Love the video. Very helpful. Just got the 9 inch Size 2 Chiaogoo needles and with your help, think I will make it. May I ask where did you get your end stoppers? Thank you kindly.

Hi, no I don't have a pattern, I use many patterns from Mina Phillip's, knitting ex pat.
I bought my needles at a craft fair, I think it was Purlesence website.

I wasn't sure what I'd need and purchased ChiaoGoo Twist Shorties which come in a little red case and have tip sizes 0, 1, 1.5,2, 2.5, & 3. There are two sets, of needle tips and are 1.75" and 2.75" tip lengths. There are 3 cord lengths: 5", 6" and 8". I'm making socks for my husband and am using the 6" whereas for me I'd use the 5". So for my socks it makes the needle 9.5" but for my husband it is 10.5. I am able to turn the heel with the heel flap as well as casting on long tail method on to the circular needle itself. I use the longer tip on my right hand and shorter in my left. I knit both Continental and English Flicking and can do it both ways including with Continental using Norwegian Purl.
The toe of course I can't do all of it, about half then go to a Magic Loop method.
They are very comfortable for me to use. My hands are recovered from arthritis and I am taking a Turmeric supplement in capsules. I don't get any cramping. I did try Clover Takumi in bamboo but their tips were both the same length and had a dog knee bend. I took them back, could not get used to them. Now that I know how to use these sort of needles, I could probably use them.
I really like the ChiaoGoo and have gotten myself the full set for the rest of my knitting.
I bought my needles on Amazon. Very pleased with the quality. I do find I have to knit with using a magnifying lamp in the evening as I am 66 years old. Socks are great fun to make, I find.
My husband won't wear any other socks now and I have loads of pairs. I use Kroy Sock Yarn. It is durable, pretty and goes in the washer and dryer and wears very well but takes often 3 skeins of yarn to make socks.
I prefer the heel flaps and they fit us best but have done also the toe up or top down with the after thought heel. The heels are just barely big enough for me but for the hubby, he needs the heel flap.

My tension is a lot looser on 9 inch circular. Preferred method is dpns but sometimes I get tired of switch 4 needles every row. Think I'm gonna mix it up with magic loop.

Hi, my tension is a lot looser on 9 inch too, and I get my best tension on dpns but I find its a lot easier and quicker on 9inch.

Nice to know your knitting is looser. I bought some of those needles at a thrift store and am a tight knitter. Look forward to doing a pair of socks.
