I do not understand why we feel so privileged to say that we speak english very well and in this case you're claiming english to be the official language and it is very disheartening. Umkar is one of the best root bridges that not many visit. By the way Dawki is a border town not a river. The root bridges take about 40-50 years to be built. A father starts one for the use of his son & grandchildren. Also the bridges are used even now after concrete since these are flexible structures which is important when the gush of water falling down in such velocity will just wash away everything concrete in its path. By the way you should visit Meghalaya again as you had missed out quite a number of places

The official language of Meghalaya is English , along with khasi and Garo . Hardly a small percentage speaks hindi . Meghalaya is dominated by two tribes Khasis and Garo .khasi belongs to the Monkhmer race from SEAsia and Garo are Tibeto Burman origin . Also Meghalaya is the only Matrillineal state in India .
