Aliens Ate My Buick is one of the most underrated albums in the history of popular music.
Anthony, agree 100% A real gem.
I like it, but it's my least favourite of his albums. I've always seen his first two and last two being pairs, and this one is kind of the awkward middle child.
How can it be underrrated if it charted in the top 30?

I think this was the strongest track on the album, superb mixture of programming & live. Snare fits the track just fine, anything bigger would detract from the other stuff going on around it. I really like how a lot of the sounds going on are purposely really late, creates a great feel. This guy is a much underrated genius, never got the recognition he deserved in this country. Never get tired of listening to his albums, there's always something new in there somewhere.
Dig the deep groove on this it's a hell of a track. Catchy and drives like concrete truck. BEAUTIFUL. happy to have stumbled across it ...
he gets a better recognize for giving us the invention of (phone's) ringtones. and yeah..underrated genius-by far. you also may enjoy his production works with collaborations of: prefab sprout. george a clinton..I love catching him at the independent night club venue in San Francisco a few years ago..'super great mesmerizing of experience:)

The first time I saw "She Blinded Me With Science" on MTV, I was convinced Thomas Dolby had great talent!

Budapest By Blimp is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard, but a slow 8 minute song wouldn't be popular on mainstream radio, the important thing is that you enjoy the music :3

Every album has its vibe... But I tell you, besides the music, (Thats important) AAMB is fairdinkim one of the best produced Albums Ive ever heard.

I first heard this song while riding my bike to work thru traffic in the late 80s, having just gotten this album for my cassette walkman. I cracked up so many times I nearly died in traffic, repeatedly.
this is so cool to me. im a teen who recently got this album from my grandpa, and I LOVE it. it’s always so hard for me to visualize people listening to it 30 years ago, let alone on a Walkman 😭
@@allyb2301 I'll bet it's like me trying to imagine someone from the 30's listening to a Victrola...tho our age differences aren't quite THAT drastic (I hope!). So glad you discovered this great album! I think my personal fave from it it is "My Brain is Like a Sieve." I love the beat & sound of it, tho choosing one fave from the album is almost impossible. I remember almost riding my bike into a tree from laughing the first time I caught the words in "The Key to Her Ferarri" about...um, the mess on the upholstery. Best to you, and i hope you discover lots more old music you love!

Airheads Revenge and Revenge Rap are well worth a listen for fun. Great track with lots of humour which is sadly lacking in modern music.
Why have I never seen this video before? This is actually pretty cool...and original.
The album really didn't get promoted very much. Dolby spent most of his major label career trying to get out from under "She Blinded Me With Science" and "The Golden Age of Wireless," but Capitol Records wanted more of that, and when he didn't deliver it with this album, they lost interest in him.
Out of all the singles from "Aliens Ate My Buick," this was the first one and the one that got the biggest push.
Hid best song ever was from the early nineties album I can't think of the name of it but he had a song titled close but no cigar it's awesome.

This got played a lot on my favorite "modern rock" station in SF back in the day. I can only imagine the fuss that would get kicked up if that were to happen today.
I think less, considering bands like Imagine Dragons were getting played on modern rock stations despite being terrible. It was more of a seventies and nineties thing to have that whole beef against producer music..

No it wasn’t underrated. It was rated like all the records of the time and it got no love. I was there, I bought the album and loved it while nobody else did.

I'm so curious what happened to Thomas Dolby. This is such a great album, and then he pretty much quit after this. (I know he's done a couple albums, but barely.)
I know nothing "happened" to him--it's like he lost interest. Moved to Silicon Valley to make apps, now teaches at Johns Hopkins. What's wrong with making music?
His next album 'Astronauts & Heretics" is really good. He put out more albums afterwards and still gave live performances. One of my relatives worked on a software project with him in the Silicon Valley and he is a huge fan of him.
@@riproar11 Yes, I love "Close but No Cigar," and "Eastern Bloc" also. I finally got to see him in concert a few years ago. It was really cool, he was playing outside of Baltimore the day that Sandy hit. There was hardly anyone in the audience, and he had nowhere to go because the storm had grounded the planes. The only upsetting thing was that he played hardly any of his "greatest hits"--it was all back catalogue stuff, like "Leipzig." (You're playing Leipzig but not Airwaves or Radio Silence?!?!?!) But still it was great to finally see him.
