    After getting 44 platinum trophies, I got back to play some games with my 3DS and also started playing more with my Switch, and I noticed I was enjoying the games much more without having to worry about missable external achievements. When I started playing with my PS5 again, I disabled trophies notifications and set my privacy preferences so no one can check my game activity and my trophies.
    I’m a happy gamer again, and now I like replaying games I already 100% just for the sake of it, and I don’t spoil myself checking missable trophies.

    I started gaming again this year on PS5 and Steam after an almost 20-year break. My last console had been the PS1 and then I played something old on PC once in a while when gaming wasn't even called "gaming" in my country yet. I didn't even know trophies came to existence in the meanwhile, and I find them sooo stupid and pointless. I couldn't care less and totally ignore them because, YES, it feels like a manipulation to make you stick to the games longer than you'd like to. I'm not a completionist and often even have to force myself to complete the main story of a game, as I'm very sensitive to repetition and get bored quickly of the same gameplay, so my answer to achievements is a big middle finger. And my profiles are private on both PS Network and Steam. The advantages of being a bit older and a bit more respectful of my own time and priorities, I suppose. Never crossed my mind to be self conscious of my progress. But you are right, there will be those players.
    You nailed the disturbing bit about the CMOS battery. It has transformed into some unholy beast. I am disappointed that the greater gaming community isn't ragging on Sony in particular to address and update their software to solve the CMOS issue with the DRM and eventual closing of servers. Anything digital becomes lost. As a fighting game fan that is very worrisome.
    Years later and Evo is still run by Sony.

      Honestly I almost didn’t talk about the CMOS battery. I was in the process of finishing the script when the news broke.
      I’m actually in the process of making a video on the problems with the online marketplace; How games are being sold to us piece by piece and how all DLC should be given to players freely if a company is no longer going to give support to the game/taking away the ability to purchase it.

    • @Toomnyusernae
      @Toomnyusernae Před 3 lety

      @@SonicMTD Games being sold piece by piece. I think an important point worth mentioning is how the gaming consumers have subtly okayed this practice. In those early days who didn't want to give the projects more time to become something better? Going back to my fighting game background, it is welcome because it means a refined product that I can enjoy across more years.
      However, you are right. the lifespan of a game has increased so much that DLC has become perverted. No longer just mere optional add ons. They've become planned and devised ways of experiences that can be missed out on. Fighting games again but the average player plays 6 of the 30 characters at most. Digital action figures that people don't realize they're collecting like when they were younger.
      FPS stages, weapons, skins is a whole other beast that requires online to fully enjoy. Each genre has some method of squeezing us out of our time and money. Back to the backburner of games I go.

      @Toomnyusernae Před 3 lety

      @@SonicMTD I want to give fighting games a half pass but it's becoming increasingly difficult.
      I'll use Mortal Kombat as an example. They churned out a lot of garbage characters in the past so you never really know who you're going to get. They make a story with a handful of characters and newcomers to make their story work. Can't possibly put in everybody. Their universe has characters that die and get brought back which is also distinctly NRS. No other fighting game has that luxury. But, Mileena? I dunno how to feel about that one. NRS is lucky that they've consistently released a Komplete version when they're done with a game. That is their saving grace.
      Soul Calibur though. Wasn't Tira one of the ones who is DLC? I haven't seriously played a Soul Cal game since PS2 and I own all of them so far (sobs).
      The only real way to combat the fighting game prices is to play off rhythm. Play the previous fighting game while everybody is doing their thing with the new one. The game will be cheap enough so that when you actually get everything it'll be worthwhile. Destroy that fear of missing out.
      Thank Japan for still insisting on hard copy games as well as digital. That's changing though. Everything leaning towards digital to the point second hand shops / trading or Gamespot / EB games are gonna go out of business.
      You want to hear a horror story, I came across a youtuber gamer whose Xbox 360 games (he has physical copies) were rendered useless and unplayable until he bought into Gamepass on the newer consoles. Absolutely diabolical.

    I have been telling my short story with achievements to other youtubers, so I think I should share with you too, buddy :)
    Well, I gave up on the platinum of the Retroachivements for God of War 1, for the PS2 (yes, people nowadays are making achievements for ps2 emulators, very interesting, no? And for some reason I tought for a moment that this would be a good idea...).
    There is a trio of trophies there that require you to play the entire game on very hard difficulty with zero upgrades. Needless to say, literally only 1% of players got it.
    It sounded fun to do at first, and it REALLY was a fun run. While hunting these achievements, I felt like I was on a whole new adventure, learning to fight the monsters the way the game intended the player to, learning the enemy's movements, instead of only Kratos's. Neat stuff. It was refreshing, imersive, and highlighted the game's strongest points, as a trophy hunt should be. But then.. right at the end, the Clones fight came on, and EVERYTHING started shattering.
    I spent 15 in-game hours attempting this Clones fight without upgrades, through the course of 4 days, with every attempt costing around 5 to 6 minutes max (the whole fight has around 10-12 minutes). It ruined the challenge for me completely, because this part of the game alone was NOT EVEN close to the difficulty I had through the rest of the game, including the rest of the achievements. It was just unfair, and RNG based. All the strats I researched (and there's like, only one possible that everyone does, which is saying something, don't you think?), point to the RNG path, where everything MUST align perfectly, or else things falls apart.
    On the fourth day of attempts, something strange hapenned: I stopped being angry, and started being Bored out of my mind. "Repetition made the process unbereable", this phrase describes my life with achievements.
    So I felt free to just leave this platinum behind, and with that, my will to trophy hunt as a whole. Suddenly, all my negativity and tireness accumulated on those four days were gone, and I felt much better imediatly.
    Throughout my gaming life, I think I never platinum not even 10 games, and at the end of every one of them I always felt the same: "I'm distancing myself from what the game means to me, it became a bunch of mechanics, and not a storytelling device anymore." So, I never had a good experience with trophy hunting, it always showed the worst side of games that I love to me.
    This is my story with it, but I don't have any hate for it. Hell, I even love trophy hunting youtube channels, it's interesting to see people putting out content with their platinum journeys. It's something that's just not for me.
    Let's just say that I play games for a different reason, and I decided to keep it that way. I do love challenging games, don't get me wrong. But the challenge needs to have something to do with the narrative somehow. For me, Games are about discovery, emotion, charm, music, narrative.

    Definitely a bad blow with a game structure, maybe the worst, and the fact that it looks sweet is the underlying factor of every poison...
    The best practice that can be done as a solution can be as follows... all the reward registration system added to the person's account can be deleted and transferred to the playstation own store and used as an avatar and theme from that store with the scores collected in-game...
    But let's be careful, it is definitely not a score system registered to the player's main account, it should be more like credits and expendable, it should not stay registered there forever and not cause obsessive compulsive disorder...

    Okay so apart from changing the the psychology of going for platinums I hate them for another reason.
    Getting 100% in a game should be achieved in game, do all the side missions, get 3 stars on every mission etc. that stuff to me is completely fine and going for that should be a persons choice and maybe get a platinum for that.
    What I hate is how plats are not consistent and they are seemingly random and to me are completely arbitrary. If I 100% a game and finish everything the creators intend but now I have to go to a random place and jump up and down 300 times just because, that's completely meaningless. Some plats require you to finish the game on the hardest difficulty, some don't... So dumb to me.
    100% should be what a plat is, not whatever they are.

    1% phone about to die to make it quick, each their own, I think you should have the option to not have trophies but that’s also annoying since you know you don’t have them. Personally I have two accounts one, where I go for them another where I just play without much care.

    This sounds more like a "I have a addictive personality that forces me to obsess over things" problem rather than a "This is a thing that is ruining gaming problem".
    I also feel like a lot of people only had a problem with this once someone else had a problem with it, or it is yet another case of overthinking.
    It really isn't this deep psychology hold that has gamers in a twist.
    It isn't that deep.
    Feel like psychology has made us into a society that makes us look at even the simplest of things are predatory when they really. aren't.
    That's more an issue with psychology, then anything else; but still.

    Nier automata had better trophy system, I enjoyed it a lot actually developers said, wait you loved the game so you want the rest of the trophies??? If you don't have time we have an secret place to buy rest of the trophies, only 4 left, which i bought them at the end and finish the one more ending and got the trophy, this is how the trophies suppose to work
    Not like gta 5, collect like 50 evidence
    50 ridiculous annoying jump
    Find 30 nuclear waste in slow ass submerine, fly sharp knife, or there's another stupid trophy which wants to earn 70 gold medals, fuck this trophy designs, i have a life to take care of

  • @MasterP86

    My only issue is when the system is broken and its impossible to get an achievement, its an achievement for money sinking or when its tied in some way to game progression, outside of it, achievements are 100% opt in and they have 0 impact on your game if you dont like them.
    People that are jerks about their achievements are just as insuferable as people on the other side that are jerks to people that like them. It isnt an achievement issue, its a person issue.
    If you like them, want to have a badge, prove your skill or whatever else, its ok, its also ok if you dont care at all about them.
    One thing that i really hate about them is that you cant just delete them, tough.

    I hate trophies now because of the gatekeeping and elitism in gamers who put down others on these tracking sites, it's not important to enjoying a game, took me a decade to realize it but as an older adult it makes it less fun.

    I remember when games were games and not things to do to achieve "something". Today people are mostly not even gamers. They are mere trophy hunters. Today I wish I could simply deactivate trophies or game scores and just play the games without any achievements running in the background.
    I love High on Life. An awesome FPS adventure. The game tells me I still need to get 32%. 32% in terms of what? Some trophies are hidden or secrets the game won't even tell me until I achieved them.
    Otherwise I do enjoy the game itself and did everything I could except I'm still missing some loot boxes as for me I can not figure out where they are located. Maybe I go and try to find them since I beat the game properly already.
    But if I can not, I just replay the game itself.

    • @SonicMTD

      How do you define “gamers”?
      Legit curious, cause there are many different kinds of people who play games.
      Also I’m in agreement on the whole deactivating trophies part. I find on the development side trophies are a quick and dirty way of not having to put in more content.

    • @POIUYTREWQ62
      @POIUYTREWQ62 Před 2 měsíci

      Even when there were no trophies, people still did random things and went as far to achieve things.
      Think about it in terms of a game that came out when trophies weren't a thing getting a remake or remaster with trophies, people did the things in the original game that would've gotten them trophies.

  • @ceasarsalad119
    @ceasarsalad119 Před 10 měsíci

    Trophies are never implemented properly by developers because they are used as a substitute for game content. Make a puzzle then put the collectible inside a room you can access only afterwards. Don't just hide them so you need a guide. That ruins fulfilment.

    how do you feel embarrassed about low trophies, that just doesn't make sense, who gets embarrassed by looking at someones trophy list. and you say "making you" get these ridiculously difficult achievements, but no one's making you. you get them if you want them, if you don't want them, don't get them, the point is you earn them, you might as well just get some software to insta give you all the achievements then, no one is forcing you, if you just want to play a game, just play the game. a lot of people love achievements, the exact point is its difficult or you have to do something you wouldn't normally do. the dark souls games, you have to grind attempts at bosses, but that's mandatory to progress unlike achievements, would you say that's worse then. some achievements can change the entire way you play a game. and you wanna know the best part, you don't got to do them if you don't want to. I can guarantee you, no one except yourself is looking at your trophy list like that.

    I do think unlocking the armor in Halo 3 via achievements was fun. When you saw someone with a certain armor piece you knew what they've done to obtain it.
    But Halo Reach's way of using credits made things more accessible for people who wanted to look a certain way without being gated behind a specific task.
