- Thanks for checking out our Led Zeppelin reaction. We listened to Black Dog the other day to see if we'd be able to upload it. Welp, it worked. I guess we're back doing more Led Zeppelin lol.

The drums are on a different, counter rhythmic beat during some measures. Incredibly hard to do but Bonham nails it. That's why you're having trouble with it. The first time you hear the song it throws you off because you're so used to everything else you listen to being in sync. But this was experimental, bringing something to rock that was more commonplace in jazz.
I've had very musical, non-rock people tell me they are convinced that there is off-beat mistake in this song. No. Bonham is playing behind the beat the entire time and then "jumping it" for lack of a better term in spots.
bonham is playing 4/4 and the rest of the band are dealing with the odd measures... off bonhams 4/4... I get the feeling ya dont play drums... xD
I was going to mention the jazz influence here but you beat (pun intended) me to it.
Exactly! I knew somebody would explain.
drums are in 4/4, guitars and bass are in 5/4
at some point in every bar the whole thing seems to dismantle itself and that creates an incredible tension
Lex has a wild and creative imagination that makes a lot of sense, that's one of the reasons we like her so much. cute laugh too.
She's so adorable & Brad seems like an awesome brother.
They're the perfect couple.
LOL!! She's the reason I subscribed and keep coming back, I did not know they were brother and sister!! that explains a lot !! thank God... LOL
@@johnsaldana8667 I did not know that either. You just never know. I wonder if she has a boy friend. I'll volunteer! (if I was single and younger).

The guitar riff that made countless people say, "I wanna do that!" And become guitarists
Best comment
Exactly! Well said.
Grew up a hip hop head but when i heard this song rock got me forever!
That riff was wild.
JPJ had it in mind after a rehearsal. Was on a train and made notations on the back of his train ticket. Unfortunately he doesn't have the ticket anymore.
Brad, if you like a bluesy sound but with a song that can keep you in the groove... try When The Levee Breaks.
It was originally a country blues song recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929 about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Led Zeppelin did a version with their own take on it. It's got a great groove and might work for you.
Or Kashmir
I second that
The Voice of Australia blind
Which has ties to LOTR
also Misty Mountain Hop
Bonzo's drumming in this song is just incredible. He's holding the song together all the way through while the other instruments are doing their thing on another beat. Brilliantly written and performed piece of music. These guys never disappoint.
This is one of those songs that grows on you . It gets better each time you listen to it , like you pick up on something new each time you hear it .
4 years old, playing my brother's album in the garage after dark, this is the first LZ song I had ever heard. In love ever since.
Same here😁 (except I was more like 5 or 6) I remember picking up the album cover with no writing and a guy with a bundle of sticks on his back and being like "huh?" I was expecting something folky, but then Black Dog rocked my world.
Same here found my moms cassette tape. The pink one led Zeppelin did. Most of the other albums i listened to later on her old 8 track until i broke it. I was 6 or 8 i think at the time. But this song was my first exp. With Zeppelin. Huge fan ever since.
Lex is one of the most creative people I have ever seen. The way she relates to things blows my mind. Brad's reactions perfectly match mine when he hears them.
Yeah I watch basically because of Lex. Brad is kind of like a zombie...but Lex moves to the music
@@reality1958 Brad tries to make sense of the lyrics and the meaning of the songs so he's just constantly thinking. Lex is more focused on how it feels so she's more entertaining to watch and listen to.
@@ROArecords2 yeah that is true. But music is alot more than lyrics. You gotta feel it or you're missing out!
@@reality1958 I agree, I was just explaining why he seems more in his head than Lex.
@@reality1958 I totally agree. I was 19 when Led Zeppelin came out with their first album. There were bands whose music was meant to be listened to and those to dance to. They and others like Pink Floyd were in the former category. To each his own but for some people not being able to enjoy both is unfortunate.
ANY Led Zeppelin song is a song you listen to over and over again!
You MUST do Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" from the same album. You'll catch the beat on that one!
I don't know what I enjoy more, hearing the music through y'all's ears or Lex describing where she's transported or how she relates to the music. #zucchinibreadvibes
Just 4 incredible musicians creating horn dog blues rock with the amps turned up to 11.
You must be talking about someone else. Zeppelin didn't create it, they just made it better
@@voodoocustompickups2547 guess I worded it wrong-I didn’t mean to imply that they created blues rock because they certainly didn’t. They just perfected it.
They certainly created horn dog blues rock. Great wording. Nobody else did powerful sexy swaggering blues rock before them. Zeppelin own it.
@@lyndoncmp5751 the Stones were doing it years before Zeppelin.
11... It's 1 louder 😂
Led Zeppelin made this song like that so that teeny boppers couldn’t dance to it. The Mighty Zeppelin 🤘😎🤘
Boston's epic "Foreplay/Long Time" please. Lex's mind will explode when she hears it.
Listened to that today! Would love to see their reaction to it
Waiting for her reaction on that as well.
Watch this kid do it! czcams.com/video/h19K9Z0fZUs/video.html
I second this!
I agree... that would be a good one for Lex. Here is official song guys.. czcams.com/video/TnwqUEelQjE/video.html
John Bonhams greatness in this song. The beat makes you think he played it one time then put on a loop to repeat it..
Nope. He played it each time perfectly thats why he was the greatest in my opinion
Guys you’ll love “Since I’ve Been loving you” by Led Zeppelin! A blues masterpiece
I hope they react to it. It's my favorite Zeppelin song.
Yes, but please do the studio version first. Not live. That comes later.
Yes!!!
The song has two different time signatures at the same time which is probably why you're having a little issue connecting with the beat
Ok! That’s next on our list for LZ!
Guys, his was just pure “hard rock” but pure ecstasy. Couldn’t tell you the time signature on this one.
The time signatures aren't that crazy (4/4 and 7/8) it's the way Bonham applied the beat to the riff. I would say that almost anyone else would have double or quadruple timed it. But played this slowly,it's bizarre.
@@jeffreycherep8264 yeah the 4/4 I recognized. I almost thought the rest was a really slow cut time.😂
@@viacrucis2509 it kind of is.
Next LZ song should be “Dazed and Confused”!! Such a epic jam!
Love Lex's analogies about songs, she really comes out of left field!
😅😅😬
Her soul just oozes creativity.
For real!!
Lex is very special....she is so smart....it literally is amazing her level of contextual understanding regardless of the song, artist, instrument, era, genre, etc.... She is basically a genius.
You need to do Heart's Kennedy Center tribute to Led Zeppelin where they perform Stairway to Heaven.
Yes it was a great tribute from heart the best done by anyone cords were perfect and the Wilson's sisters vocals were amazing
That is the tastiest guitar solo, never gets old.
Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. This song is a total vibe. If you listen to it straight through without stops, it makes more sense, musically. This song demonstrates the considerable talents of the late, great drummer John Bonham as well as the rhythmic greatness of the other members of the band. The rhythm shifts constantly, but Bonzo holds it together tightly in 4/4 as it rolls along. That start-stop thing in this song is called "Call and response" and was a somewhat common thing in blues music. In this case, the "call" is Robert Plant's vocal line and the "response" is the guitar riff that follows it.
One thing you can say about Led Zeppelin is that no two of their songs sound the same.
The guitar solo towards the end is a beauty and so powerful.Been listening to this a long time now and still gives me goosebumps !
It’s easy to see that Lex loves music more than Brad, and can appreciate it when the music is pushed out of the the norm and takes on the artistic form of the band.
I agree with this. That's my impression, too.
Respect brad for voicing what you like. Myself I love the start and stops in the song. Wouldn’t work without them.
You’ll fall in love with the “Rain song”. To me it is a masterpiece. A lot of people will be against me saying this but I think it’s better than Stairway to Heaven.
I'm not sure whether I agree or not with it being better than Stairway (better vibe for rain, love the outro for Stairway...), but I do agree it is a masterpiece!
in fact, to my mind--it's no contest
Check out Kashmir by Zeppelin.
Exactly, Lex! Bluesy Rock. We loved it back in those days.
Hard n heavy!
Love when Lexi talks about the way bands "phrase" their melodies, vocals etc. I think she knows more about music than she let's on. ❤
“Honey drip can’t keep away “ Robert Plant ain’t talking about WAP?! Is he? Haha
🤣🤣🤣
Most likely. The metaphorical way of saying it is soooo much better and more entertaining. I wish artists would stick to that delivery lol
@@MS-sk5si For real. Todays vulgarity isny clever, it simply shows their lack of thought.
@@zachmartinez7248 good point. I agree
Lex being here awesome self and wearing a Canadian lobster shirt is a whole vibe everyone in this world needs. She can be my cult leader.
Lex is a 70s Brit rock chick in a former life ❤️
EXCELLENT....loved this song as a kid.....this was all over the radio, besides Stairway To Heaven !!!
"Heartbreaker//Livin Lovin Maid" is quite the jam session. 2 songs they put together. Great blend of two distinct styles back to back. Really showcases their versatility.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for doing the original album version! You guys ROCK! Prediction: You will EACH revisit this song many times, and even if you never "get it", you will find yourselves gradually loving it anyway!
Part of the beauty of Zeppelin is their variety. Almost always best live.
Lex, you're awsome, zucchini?
Open your mind Brad, too many expectations. Enjoy the journey.
I listen to this over and over,
You’ve only barely scratched the surface on Led Zeppelin!! ✌️
Gotta keep listening to it. It will all come into fruition. You’ll see.
Kick ass tune!
I've listened to this song thousands of time since the mid 70's. It stands out because it is so different. They always mixed things up. Never could tell with Led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin is one of those bands that can do a lot of different styles very well. Lex nailed it when she calls them an eclectic band. You can find everything from folk ballads to heavy metal to psychedelic to punk and even a touch of calypso and reggae in their music. All of it gets informed and infused with their blues roots, but they were never afraid to try something new in their songs.
Did you guys catch the very subtle stick click before John Bonham (drummer) does before each drum intro? You have to really listen close but you can hear a click just before. A lot of people are surprised when I point this out. 😉
I heard it !! I wonder if it was for timing?
@@RubyMarkLindMilly A drummer friend of mine said it might of been the last of a four count which didn't get edited out for some reason.
one of the hardest rocking bands ever!!! the amazing groove!!!
That was some ferocious blues based hard rock. Blistering & nasty!
The zucchini bread analogy was surprisingly visionary and inspired.
Agreed! I understood her analogy and it makes sense when you're first encountering LZ.
Oddly, I got what Lex was saying almost instantly. She's very creative and spiritual.
Their entire catalog is amazing. I hope you don’t give up on them.
Lol.... Your killin me Lex!
ZZ top... sounds like leather... Led Zeppelin reminds me of zuccini bread.
I got tears in my eyes...
And Brads reactions to when you say something like that is priceless.
Love watching your reactions.
BRAD - MARRY THIS LADY !! SHE IS THE ONE - TRUST ME - METAL GIRLS RULE !!
This song....the drums...has a pocket the size of The Pacific Ocean!
It swings behind ever do slightly and stretches that groove baby!!!
This is an very old skool blues technique -- you stop playing your guitar (or whatever) while you sing a verse, and then play a refrain while not singing, then repeat, repeat, repeat, etc. Similar to a "call and response".
Anyway, if it is any solace, I think this the only LZ song that follows that pattern to this degree.
Two odd things going on with the rhythm:
- the frequent stops before all the free vocal parts,
- at some point, bass and guitar are fitting in like Lego pieces of length 9 in a construction where everything is 8. Not by squeezing, but by just shifting the next one an 1/8 note forward. To make this extra unlogical, the drums are playing a cozy 4/4 halftime as if nothing is happening. By doing so, stressed and unstressed in the 9-frase swaps every time, like a photo continuously swapping between negative and normal. If that all makes sense. :-)
You two are very authentic…. This is why people like to watch reactions. Listen… and listen close…. There’s more than one direction to bob and weave. Salute
It might be helpful to remember that this band's "stock-in-trade" was putting new arrangements into old blues standards. Very often, the lyrics are attributable to someone else.
''.. eclectic..' sums up Led Zep in a single word: folk, blues, rock, metal all at once.
Jon playin that famous back beat that mess with your mind!!
lov watchin Lex !!!!lov it !!
In my time of dying, led zeppelin studio is so great and layered you will love it!
If you like blues/rock you must check out LZ "since I've been loving you " or "when the levee breaks " great reaction!
Every time I hear Lex explain some bizarre connection to the song, through bread or texture or colors or what have you, I totally get it.
For some nasty Zeppelin blues rock, try You Shook Me and Bring It On Home.
For slower blues, try Since I've Been Loving You and Babe I'm Gonna Leave You.
There's many more I want to mention, but I'd end up writing a book.
Led Zepplin often have the drummer & the guitar play in different time signitures (different tempos), yet they stay together on the melogy. They also switch to different musical moods in the song. The guitar riffs are always great.
300,000,000 records sold Led Zeppelin world wide
Fun fact: John Paul Jones, the bass/keyboard player wrote the main riff for this song.
The unjustly underrated member of Zeppelin.
@@jackgilchrist JPJ was a genius
Led Zeppelin! A vibe on its own. Songs definitely grow so much over time. I also find Robert Plants singing is so much like he's playing his own instrument. This song also emphasizes this a lot. The interplay of the instruments, back and forth, the space they leave for each other.
There is never enough that could be said about this band. Their style changed album to album. The videos from 68, 69 70 from Denmark and elsewhere, showcasing their first album are truly remarkable. No, they didn't write some of those early songs, but they made them into epic covers that can never be duplicated. They were 18 to 21 years old, and already had been serious seasoned musicians before they formed this band, and at that age..Jimmy Paige was a well regarded studio musician, by the time he was 20...and had played in the Yardbirds, a band that also featured Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton. The other three were all well renowned as well. John Paul Jones, who never gets enough credit, was a force before they formed, Plant and Bonham as well. It would take far too much time to fill it all in...I got to see them, once, and have seen almost every other formation, combinations of Plant and Paige, the band " the Firm" etc...live..and would go anytime. They could never be pigeon holed into one type of music genre....too good, too complex, at times too simple and graceful, and yet always just bad ass. There style of playing is one of the most attempted to copy ever by many many bands. Not talking sampled, literally playing, writing, singing style. There music inspires to this day.
its difficult to work out because theres 2 different rythyms going on. the drums and bass are playing a different time signature to the guitars lol. they were BRILLIANT musicians!! and they could do it live with ease too
It's funny to see that while you found it hard to vibe to, you both were rocking to it the entire time. It's a sneaky song in that way. And I love Lex's zucchini bread comment! Great reactions.
This is a classic call and response blues tune. Robert makes the call and Jimmy answers with the guitar! Something early delta blues artists likely picked up from church.
You mentioned that it's "hard to catch the beat"
That's the beauty, the lure, the magic and the very essence of John "Bonzo" Bonham!! Thank you sweetie for noticing and pointing that out! Many people notice that the beat is different, most musicians notice it but few others notice John Bonham's off-center licks but you nailed it, they sound outta place but yet they are perfect and dead on and you saw it, I'm seriously impressed with you!! I was a very young teenage musician when this song was popular and the drum licks of John Bonham mesmerized me in the '70's as it does today! His off n sometimes awkward timing of his beats are legendary and to this day draw wonder and amazement from everyone.
Led Zeppelin are timeless, rare and precious to anyone who loves and appreciates not only Rock and Roll but good vibes in general! I absolutely LOVE your reaction, it was upbeat, funny and so much fun! Just another reason why I recently became a subscriber. Thanks guys!

I have said exactly the same thing. Lex gets it. She knows how to appreciate good music
Love y'all! Can you try Edgar Winters Group - Frankenstein 1973!?
It’s a sort of call and response, common in blues. They are playing in two different time signatures in part of this .
The guitars are playing at 5/4 and the drums are at 4/4. They sync back up after 20 measures.
Robert Plants vocals have to be the greatest and probably most recognisable in all Rock Music. Absolute legend of Rock, he had it all back in the day, looks, voice, appeal, talent and all wrapped up in the biggest rock band of the era and probably of all time 👍
Next LZ songs “In My Time of Dying” “Ten Years Gone” and “Fool in the Rain” please🙏🏻🙏🏻
+1 for In My Time Of Dying. One of my favourite Zep songs. Bonham's foot work throughout that song is amazing. One of the very few Zep songs i would recommend a studio version over a live version just so you can properly hear it.
@@CGVan420 👍
You guys really should react to the studio version of "Since I've Been Loving You" off of the album "Led Zeppelin III". I think you'll gain a whole new understanding and appreciation of the bands music.
Peace
Not a typical Led Zeppelin song. I got hooked on Led Zeppelin because of this song. The raw emotion is overpowering. Bonham was a beast.
This is old school beat poetry..with power blues 💙
This song flows like an abrupt waveform. If Brad relaxed and listened to it 10 times, he'd maybe feel that undulation and realize he was supposed to follow that rhythm. It's like any irregular timing immediately gets read as 'wrong' to him, whereas Lex seems to find it easier to be patient and relax and wait for the beat to emerge, rather than needing it immediately, before being able to relax. I hope he does learn that through doing this. He misses out on a lot she enjoys that he could enjoy too, if he just altered what he thought he was 'supposed' to do when listening (which is do nothing but listen). I think I watch this channel just to see if Brad will ever open up and listen to a song rather than treat it like an Agatha Christie mystery he's supposed to solve. :-)
giggles...Led Zeppelin never intended their music to be "a vibe".
Their music suffers no cookie-cutter, pop music, blah blah blah,
but instead exhibits a learning experience in musical composition.
Good reaction. Auf Wiedersehen :-)
Exactly. I mean, there are plenty of LZ songs where there is a groove. But LZ wasn't/isn't always about just a groove and a vibe and 4/4 time. They experimented with genre, time signatures, instrumentation, everything. That's what makes them interesting and the GOAT of rock bands.
Give Lex a decent guitar solo and her little smirk holds back her putting a big smile on.
@ Brad and Lex. I like your honesty Brad - you're not afraid to say you don't like something. I watch a lot of 'reaction' videos, and you're the only one with the balls to do that! Keep up the good work.
Watching Lex's face come alive when guitar solos kick in is worth the subscription alone. Also, do more Rush
Now you should react to Robert Plant and Alison Krauss performing this live... completely different arrangement and vibe.
I agree that was a really good show they did when the levee breaks on that show as well I thought they were really good together vocally
Driving my '66 Chevy Caprice listening to AM radio, while turning my older sister on to weed (pot back then) for the first time and Black Dog was playing. Always think of that when I hear this song.
Another very deep rabbit hole! Down by the seaside. In the light. Battle of evermore. Black country woman. The song remains the same/Rain song. Ramble on. Babe I'm gonna leave you(studio version) Kashmir (02 arena version) It goes on and on! Go for it Brad and Lex! Rock on!
Brad looks SO confused as to what this song is about!
First Zep song I ever heard. 11 years old and it was an epiphany. It was so hard- like being smacked in the face by a wave of sheer unadulterated joy.
Graduated from high school in 1975. Black Dog is to me quintessential Led Zeppelin. IT IS LED ZEPPELIN and Misty Mountain Hop is right there with it.
O.M.G!!! Lex's thoughts about a song reminding her of zucchini bread almost made me fell of the couch! Best laugh I've had in a long time

Dear Brad the beat is not in and out,it's brilliance and innovation that you should appreciate
This song sounds better and better the more you listen to it. It's my fav zepplin song, and that is saying something because i love me some zep.
Since I’ve been loving you ...The live performance best ever!!
my 90 plus year old mom. had chills when she heard this song.. she said his voice was very sexy!! LOL my mom left this earth 2019. at the age of 94. she was so awesome.. loved all music...
The song was recorded in 1971. Back then, bands used to cover each others songs a lot. When they wrote Black Dog, they purposely made the rhythm of the hook in a weird time signature so that it was hard for other bands to do it.
It's kinda in 11/4 time, but actually it is a bunch of measures of 3/4 and 2/4 strung together. It is very difficult for us mere guitar players to learn this song. The phrasing always comes out mechanical, but Jimmy Page (guitarist of Led Zeppelin) makes it sound so natural.
Also...
Side note:
Us guitar players have been trying for years to find the amp or the FX pedal that sounds like this. Turns out that it is a direct input to the console. No amp. It is the sound of the electric guitar direct overloading the heck out of an old Neve or API console mic preamp.
What an incredible description of how you reacted to the song. Zucchini bread and Zep. Love it Lex.
One of the best rock songs of all time!!!
This song has been listened to over and over and over again. Billions of times!
on one side there is a stable opinion with a basic imagination and on the other you have the unbridled imagination of a spirited heart. Thanks both of you.
The lead at the end of this song is out of this world
First Zeppelin song I ever kind of learned...somehow they make this timing work.
That's one thing with Led Zeppelin. All their songs take you on a journey. But no two songs sound the same.
