Short Moscow Watchdog description:
The Moscow Watchdog is both - amazing protector, but also gentle companion. When they are around their owners and family, they are normally quiet and calm. This is not extremely playful and hyperactive breed, but they do love their people.
On the other hand, Moscow Watchdog has strong protective instinct and they are not very trusting towards strangers, even though, this depends a lot on training and socialization. But generally speaking, they are alert and aloof around other people, until they got to know them.

I own one of the dogs from the first litter born in the USA. Great dog! Loves his family, he's always around in the same room as us. He is a great guard dog, always on the lookout and suspicious of strangers. He's not a dog people can just walk up to and give pets, it takes a bit for him to warm up to someone new.
Wow, I wrote my comment above before watching the video. Spot on when describing this dog.
For others reading about this dog, do not think it's the same as a saint Bernard. I had a purebred saint before this dog and they aren't the same although there are a few similarities other than the look. For instance, both my saint and my Moscow watchdog preferred to be near the family snuggled up. But my Moscow watchdog is way more protective than my saint was. My saint at least let strangers come meet him without scaring them off with all the guard dog barking that the watchdog does.
Hey Aaron! Thanks a lot! I am planning to make a comparsion video between Saint Bernard and Moscow Watchdog soon! It seems many people confuse them, but the temperament is very different. The Moscow Watchdog, at least from my experience, is much more protective, territorial and alert dog breed, which is most likely caused by breeding for utilization as patrol and guard dogs 👍 So i agree with you completely!
Yes, mine was exactly like that too. Amazing dogs, miss mine to this day. She was a real friend and companion plus a fierce bodyguard. Amazing how the personality description is so accurate.
У этой сторожевой породы есть особенность. Она впускает любого на свою территорию, но потом не выпускает. Ее выводили для охраны тюрем.
Looks like a powerful breed, great job Roca!
They are extremely powerful. I saw few of them here in Czech republic, so i believe that their poopularity is raising these days
Wow a big lovely Dog,good video.😊😊😊
👍👍
Wow! This (at least from the video) looks like a perfect match for us. Really want a family guardian that can deter potential crime by it's imposing size and hopefully deep bark, but I can't have an animal that will charge across the yard/property towards a perceived threat "handle business".
What a beautiful animal!
👍👍
"Red Star" did a good job creating those breeds ( second breed was Russian Black Terrier). Breeds perfectly survived, have their rightful place among guardian dogs, and they are excellent working dogs.
Beautiful giants
👍👍

I love Saint Bernards, so i love Moscow Watchdogs too
@@lanzik93 👍👍
Me too
I have a Male saint X Spanish mastin and a friend who owns a Caucasian, and I can say all 3 breeds with correct socialisation everyday. Our boy is the kindest gentle boy but if he doesn't like your energy hel let strangers know, just the warning is enough, he's nearly 4 yrs and growled twice at two men in his entire life so if he needed to step in he sure would but his preference is meat, walk, sleep repeat ...😂😂 He's solid balanced boy and a socialite even if your little scared of big dogs. ❤❤❤
Interesting the Moscow Watchdog as we want to add another too the pack so this is definately on my shortlist of breed thanks great video. From UK ❤
👍👍
Thank you for letting me know about this breed I was already thinking about breeding the (short haired) Saint Bernard - who does hold a protective nature close to the vest as it were - to another breed and I was researching as to which that would be, to sharpen up that protective instinct a little more. Because there are bans on pitbulls, and Rottweilers, Filas, and certain Bulldogs, Bandogges, and even other protective Mastiffs, I figured I would sneak in an Appenzeller or one of the Ridgebacks - Thai or Rhodesian dogs - that are longer-lived, to add some Health and Longevity to the Bernard and make my own brand of watch-guard-personal companion-protector dog, sociable, stable, but wary that will get between me and trouble and give warning before acting on his own, but still independent enough to take charge if I'm incapacitated.
👍👍
do not forget it gets dammmm cold in Russia so you could still get the barrel of brandy around their neck…….. lolololol
Barrel of vodka would probably fits better into Russia :-D
Priviet from Russia!
Priviet 👍
A St Bernard without the barrel of brandy.
Actually, Saint Bernards probably never had the famous keg of whiskey on their neck, its probably a myth based on one old painting. But yes, they look so similar :))
with a barrel of vodka
My Moscow watchdog's name is Barrel 😅
I got a st bernard no idea this dog even existed
👍👍
Damn. Once in a park a guy kicked my half breed watchdog-husky bestfriend, got in a fight with him cuz of that, my dog just sat and watch. Damn.
Could you point me in the right direction for a breeder of these dogs
It is hard to help if i do not know where are you from? I live in Czech republic and there is a breeding station called "Ruský medvěd" which has good reputation, but i do not think that they are exporting their dogs.
Beartooth Moscow Watchdogs in Montana
Sorry for the late reply i am in the uk
@@TheHodgeDogs need to find a U.K. breeder too
It's a cross between St Bernard and Russian shepherd dog
Yes, i said it in the video that they were developed by crossing St. Bernard with Caucasian Shepherds, which are also known as Russian Bear dogs or Russian Shepherd dogs..
