Unfortunately Hollywood wants an easy buck and the copy, paste, "modernize" is all they make.
Remember when movie making was about making something innovative and entertaining? Risk taking was how Tarantino became the globally known director.
Unfortunately, Disney has taken the story written by Hans Christian Andersen a Danish writer and has turned it "woke". They have changed the appearance of Ariel...a statue of her is in Copenhagen (maybe they will take it down since it is of a white young girl..they are ruining all the classics intentionally!

The story that HCA wrote in response to the news that the man he loved was getting married? That story?
Also, seeing as cartoon Ursula was based on the drag queen Divine (plus the fact the whole thing is an allegory for unrequited 🌈 love), it's been pretty woke for quite some time. 🤷
Plus the ending of the original story the mermaid didn’t live happily ever after…she turned to seafoam and perished
Since it's 2023, I'm surprised they didn't change the song to "Kiss the They/Them".
Beware that this Mermaid has crabs. Be careful. 😂

These days, men don't just risk an awkward moment of embarrassment if they guess incorrectly. Now, they risk serious legal consequences; arrest, fines, and/or imprisonment, which could permanently damage their career prospects, financial status, and social network.
Remember, a man must also consider she may "seem" willing in the moment, but could change her mind the next day or even 30 years later, rendering the same serious consequences to him with no recourse. In fact, he doesn't even need to kiss her at all to expose himself to these risks.
Maybe a lot of women, for all their supposed empathy, don't consider this in the moment. But I hope it's clear now why the vast difference across those few inches of eye contact exist. The hesitation isn't from a moments lack of confidence. It's a matter of self preservation for men.

What I despise the most is by taking away Ariel and Eric's relationship, takes away Ariel's status as the first Disney Princess to be a Mom and her story with Melody and Eric uniting the kingdoms of the sea and land. I know sequels are usually not very good, especially Disney ones, but I have to admit Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea was actually pretty good. Melody learning her Mom was a Mermaid and wanting to be a Mermaid was actually a good story for an animated Disney Sequel. It is a real shame they threw all that away for Woke Identity Trash.
Kat is looking amazing tonight!
So everyone at Disney always asks if it's okay to kiss someone?😅

Hard pass sick of my childhood being ruined.
The original comes from the book fairy tales told for children written in Denmark by Hans Christian Andersen. Basically a Nordic fairy tale that doesn't end like the Disney version.
Beautiful and sad tale. I had a beautiful soviet book with pictures, totally different from the Disney cartoon, where mermaids were depicted as aery, translucent beautiful creatures in the colour of sea waves, with their beautiful hair in waves down to the tip of their tails. I loved the ending the most, when the mermaid sacrificed herself to the prince's happiness to become sea foam, yet, she did not seize to exist, but transformed into the next stage of being.
We need to have Babyon Bee do a skit of a couple on a first date with the Dude with a briefcase full of contracts in it. Then he asks permission to do this or that as a romantic gesture, if she says yes, he pulls out the contract and makes her sign it so he has a record of his consent.

* sighs * ...
Disney's 1989 animated classic, "The Little Mermaid," was already ahead of its time and featured a lot of progressive themes in it for a modern woman. So at this point, I'm actually starting to question if these people are actively trolling us, if they legitimately haven't seen the movie or read the original literary work, or if they're just so lost in the sauce that they can't recall the story correctly. ->
1) First, I would like to point out that it was Princess Ariel of Atlantica who was the one coming on to Prince Eric. She was infatuated (in love) with him from the moment she was watching (spying) on him on his ship at sea at the beginning of the movie and noting how handsome he was.
2) Second, after the violent storm and fire that destroyed the ship, it was Ariel who decided to rescue Eric. Of her own volition and accord. She wasn't coerced or forced into it, nor did Eric ask to be saved.
3) Ariel was strong-willed and independent. She was fascinated by humans, the human world, and human things. Case in point why she collected gizmos, gadgets, and thingamabobs. She WANTED to be human and experience the human world. Of her own volition. No one coerced or forced her into having this desire.
4) Ariel was a 16-year-old. Still technically a child (teenager). Sure, it may work differently under the sea and for fictional Merpeople, but for everyone else, a child at age 16 would still be under the care and supervision of their parents. In this case, King Triton. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with a parent setting rules and guidelines for the safety and well-being of their child. Granted, yes, sure, King Tritan should have absolutely given his daughter more information and fully explained the 'why' of his stance. That was 100% his bad as a flawed character and widowed father who was scared by the loss of his beloved wife, Queen Athena, to pirates.
5) Sure, yes, Ursula the Sea Witch 100% did coerce Ariel and trick her into a sketchy one-sided contract. And yes, Ursula did have ulterior motives. However, Ariel did willingly read, understand, acknowledge, and sign Ursula's contract regardless. Of which, the contract specifically stated that Airel had to kiss Eric. But not just any kiss, only the kiss of true love would make Ursula's spell permanent. Meaning Ariel actively tried to bait Eric into falling in love with her so she could remain a human.
6) Regarding remaking the song, "Poor Unfortunate Souls": Ursula was made to be obviously evil and to be obviously the villain. Furthermore, I have no doubt that King Tritan and Sebastian would have warned Ariel about Ursula and about the dangers of interacting with her FAR ahead of time. It is made incredibly obvious to anyone watching the film, even children, that Ursula is attempting to lie or trick Ariel into the deal. So I guess if it was completely lost on people, Ursula was trying to comfort Ariel into offering up her voice by insinuating that she wouldn't need it or wouldn't miss it anyway, as men up on land don't care for a person who gossips and blabbers (which, I mean...not wrong). But I don't know where Disney is getting the idea that this song made young girls feel like they shouldn't speak or voice their thoughts and concerns. If little girls are taking instruction and life advice from an obvious villain, then I think there is a bigger issue at play here, one that the parents teaching their children need to address sooner rather than later.
7) Regarding remaking the song, "Kiss the Girl": it was Ariel's animal companions and friends (Sebastian and Scuttle) who were setting the mood and trying to edge Eric into kissing Ariel. Furthermore, a little thing called Non-verbal Communication does actually exist. By Ariel closing her eyes, puckering her lips up, and leaning in close to Eric, Ariel was non-verbally giving her consent to be kissed and was signaling to Eric that she wanted him to kiss her. Sorry, but you don't need to always specifically state verbally that you want to be kissed. Lastly, if you actually were to look up that scene in the movie, it was Prince Eric who was reluctant and unsure.
8) Finally, Ariel and Eric worked together as a team to defeat Ursula, each pulling their own weight.
So, in summary --
I honestly don't know where tf all of this nonsense about remaking 2023's The Little Mermaid for a "modern female audience" is coming from. Ariel already "found herself" (knew who she was) and was already a completely autonomous, strong, and powerful woman with rights, freedom, and free will. She didn't * NEED * a man; she * WANTED * one. Lastly, in the movie, television show, books, and games; there are canonically Merpeople of all ethnicities and skin tones. Hell, Gabriella, a mute mermaid who had dreams of being a singer one day, was a real reoccurring character in the Little Mermaid television series who was Ariel's close friend.
Wow I hope you posted that on a blog because no one is reading it.
I know what Mike means…with my little girl we watched Snow White and Sleeping Beauty over and over…knew the movie by heart ❤️ 😊

@@2scoopsandOrangepoops It's 2023, how do you know if they don't identify as a white fish person?
Good luck. I have a son and he hates old movies. Funnily enough, he looks at them like I did black and white films as a kid, so I'm sure he'll appreciate them one day but for now he prefer the music, animation, pace and themes of movies made for his generation and I'm cool with that. He also likes Rainbows but don't worry he's really aggressive so it's not all bad
I always liked "Darling it's better down where it's wetter take it from me."
I played Sebastian the crab in middle school theater class.
So I know that Gutfeld! is a lighter show that isn't meant to take issues *too* seriously, but I really can't believe the entire panel missed the point of why changing these songs is on a whole other planet of stupid. 1) In "Poor Unfortunate Souls," Ursula doesn't say things like, "The men up there don't like a lot of blather" and "they're not all that impressed with conversation" because it's *true,* she says it because she's convincing Ariel to give up her voice. It's kind of a *key plot element* because if Ursula can't convince Ariel that it really isn't going to matter if she can talk or not, the entire rest of the movie *doesn't happen.* 2) "Kiss the Girl" deals with *another* key plot element, specifically that Ariel *needs* to get "the kiss of true love" from Eric, because if she doesn't she turns back into a mermaid and will become one of the shriveled up inhabitants of Ursula's prison garden. Not only does Ariel want to kiss Eric, if she can't get him to fall in love with her and kiss her, she's doomed. Changing these two songs changes the entire freakin' plot. It's like whoever is making this new craptastic version fast forwarded through the Ursula-Ariel scene because they didn't think it was that important.
Very impressed with your attention to detail in your well-written post. No spelling mistakes or grammatical errors unlike the typical written opinions of others. Even articles by so-called "journalists" are ridden with errors in today's world. There was a time when writing properly was important. I do disagree with one of your points, however. Men aren't interested in a lot of the conversations that women typically have and really don't want to hear them. Men and women are different, as is much that interests us. I guarantee you that the conversations heard when girls gather together at a sorority are completely different than the conversations heard at a fraternity by a bunch of guys.

The mermaid is a Greek mythology. People would have outrage if they turned princess Jasmin white but, no one’s going to be outraged at this kind of cultural appropriation, apparently.
Kat’s age is showing again. With these Disney movies most little girls just thought, how wonderful to marry the handsome prince, wear beautiful clothes, and not have to cook or clean (ie Cinderella). Her generation looks at, I wanna be more than a wife and mom. Ok, fine do that. But sometimes women choose a simpler life, living in luxury, and that looks pretty appealing to me. Btw- when you’re financially secure, we can do whatever we want, when we want to. Gen X 😊

They wanted to complain about her being black too.
Now this is the stuff that real Patriots consider important!!!
Next the little mermaid will have a five o clock shadow and an Adam's apple 🍎
Probably. It wouldn't surprise me.
Actually, Disney could have made a more progressive movie by going back to the original Hans Christian Anderson story. There, the mermaid trades her tail for legs, and tries to pass as a human. It doesn't work, because the man she tries to woo marries a real human, and the mermaid who now cannot return to being a sea creature is left to turn into sea foam.
I was more ticked off when Disney rewrote "The Little Mermaid" to have a "happily ever after" ending than I am with the woke trash they're adding to the live version.

Because Dreamworks has never trolled disney. Never. Don't look into it. Since it was formed specifically to troll disney it hasn't done it not once since their first movie that definitely wasn't doing that.
"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isa. 5:20.)
2:42 What's the name of the song?
The worst part about censorship is ⬛⬛⬛⬛.
Why this swap? "Ariel" is white with red hair & blue eyes as "Tiana" is black with dark hair & brown eyes..They 're a part of our childhood too in the Arab world..Please don't make Tiana blonde 😰
There's nothing wrong with a black mermaid, but Ariel is a redheaded white girl. If a black character was played by a white woman, the left would explode.
Sing with me now
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
My, oh, my
Society says you must ask for consent or you will repent so you can kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
It will be bad and she’ll get mad cause you directly asked to kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
The magics gone. You should of seen the signs and it won’t be kind, next time just kiss the girl.
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
So she lied and lied because you couldn’t read her mind. Why didn’t you kiss the girl?
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Now you’re locked in jail because you decided to bail, you should have just kissed the girl.
*imagine SNOW WHITE , but it's a BLACK LIVES MATTER trans woman instead.............😵😵😵*
Generations of Americans and Europeans think of the Little Mermaid as a red-haired, fair-skinned girl. She was created by a northern European, for Pete's sake. So, Disney casts Halle Bailey, (I assume she identifies as a female, but I'm not sure about that), a dark-skinned African-American. Then they rewrite bits of the songs and story to be more acceptable to modern liberal sensibilities. And they expect anyone to go see it. Can't wait for the Cinema Sins take on this!
🎵Under the “B”! Under the “B”!
Life is a blunder, is it no wonder? They’re stealing from me.
The dollar will take a flop. When it hits the bottom, it surely won’t stop.
It won’t keep going. It’s decreased value is showing. Oh! Wo is me! 🎵
Lets not forget that in the 89 movie, she was white and 15yo, the "prince" was 20 some thing possibly 30 or more....
Who told Disney they can change a irish fairy tale for something that the English did
