Ignore the gate keepers fans who think they own the music ... people thought metal of evil... metallica is Like anti drug... anti war .... all their music is positive
I love them to pieces. They got me through a really rough year. 2022 was brutal ..damn stupid surgeries. Religious people and parents were like heavy metal is the devils work. Heavy metal artists were like drugs are bad, war is hell, take care of your mental health…here’s a cool song about religion.
Maybe it would've pissed off or scared older people, but I'm a Christian and conservative, and I ❤ Metallica! This was my era. I saw them live in '88, '89 (this tour) and in '95, and want to see them at least once more. If anyone listened to or read the lyrics, this song is about drug addiction being BAD - not a good thing - so I can't imagine anyone understanding this would think poorly of this song's message.
The first part is a tribute to Cliff Burton, their bassist who died in a bus accident in 1986. Metallica is the musical love child of Motorhead and Black Sabbath 😂😂😂
It seems like it at 1st but the song is about drug addiction(has nothing to do w/religion) but back in the '80s we had our parents w/the satanic panic" w/heavy music, he singing at 1st from the drugs POV bc addiction is like having a master control you, that middle slow melodic part is the "high" then when the song go off the rails again, that is the mania of needing to get high again... this song is over 30 yrs old and it's subject matter is very relevant in 2023 the entire MOP album is a masterpiece 🤘🏻🥰
I love at the approx 9:50 mark you pause it to comment on how that may have been a top 10 guitar solo... and it isn't even THE guitar solo yet... and the face you make when it does hit at around 10:50... that's some damn fine stinkface, precisely what the solo elicits from everyone who first hears it!
Great reaction. i like your analogy of bohemian rhapsody. Next up you should do "Holy Wars/The Punishment Due" by Megadeth. I recommend the official music video version.
Caught the ninja turtle reference, life long ninja turtle fan here 😂👍 Having said that, the "lead" guitar players name is Kirk "The Ripper" Hammet... 🤩🤘
Is so interesting that you compare the slow part with vicks and hot chocolate a snowy day. As you might know this song is about adiction where the drug is the master and the people are the puppets. That slow part symbols the rush you get when you are on Drugs, like cloud 9 or something.
One of my favorite bands!! Yikes!! Then ignore my following comment!! Wow even Metallica was honored …. 👉 This song was recently featured in the pop cult series Stranger Things Season 4 - The Finale. 💥🎸
Good luck ‘mastering’ the bass, my friend. I mean that sincerely, because as a 40-something lead guitarist with over 30 years of experience, I will tell you that seriously tasteful, talented bass players are INCREDIBLY hard to find. The same can be said for most guitarists (including myself, when I was) under ~ 25-30 years old. It takes lots of us a long time to learn that it’s not about cramming the most notes into a bar of music; it’s about the melody; it’s about accenting the vocals, and when the time for the solo comes. It is not necessary to use every single playing style you’ve ever learnt in this one solo-that invariably sounds a heap of rubbish. Play what accentuates and builds upon the mood(s) of the song. There is a reason why I prefer James’s lead guitar performance over Kirk’s. When you hear him playing by himself, every note is dripping with accents, vibrato, trills, bends , and this relatively simple melody is full of emotion., while Kirk’s fast solos-are admittedly better than anything he’s played in the next 20 years, IMO. Believe it or not, though, I consider myself a great family of the solos from most of the first 5 records. The reason? Back in those days, he actually wrote and rehearsed his solos before putting them on tape and performing them. When he was writing with Cliff, they were-together-a riff-hook-writing MACHINE. At some point after Re-Load Kirk began thinking he was a good improviser. I understand his pain- I am also not a good improvisor. But without an audience, and given time, I can write a magnificent solo. But i thinking Kirk has just kind of given up. When he improvises, despite the complexity of his written solos, his spontaneous solos are all major and minor pentatonic riffs-the kind of stuff I was already dismissing as merely a foundation upon which to build the beautiful architecture of the solo.
This is an anti drug song. They also have a song about the plagues of Egypt and the passover, Creeping Death. Only ignorant conservative Christians hate Metallica.

Even in their latest album... anti-suicide... etc. People don't know how to think critically \

0:58 yes you will. The heavy metal gods have called for it.
Awesome reaction. Love this band.

OK, love the TMNT reference. That was f-ing hilarious!
Lars’s pants were so tight I could see all his future kids.

That’s not even the best solo of this very song, but still probably top 10
yeah just for the incredible mood
Ironic that religious conservatives in the 80s and 90s were anti-Metallica… ‘Master Of Puppets’ is one of the greatest anti-drug songs ever written.
Conservative Christians love metallica just like everyone else.

What’s crazy is conservatives are the biggest fans of metal/rock/country music. 😂 I’m one of them!
Master of Puppets tells a real story of drug overdose
