A reminiscent story of mine. 2007, me playing this game for the first time, my dad coming up and saying "looks like you're safe from the monsters" as he heard the OG song the first time as he watched me play... You're not with me anymore Dad, but hearing this song again was going back in time and seeing you there, sitting down and being excited about me finally beating a game you bought by mistake and you couldn't understand. Thank you for everything, and especially, for introducing me to this magnificent game. 💙♥️😔😭

I love both versions of Serenity so much. Both of them perfectly encapsulate a feeling of longing and melancholy. Even if RE4 is silly compared to the other games before it, it still manages to convey the idea that the situation at hand is a horrible one. Leon is a broken man hoping for all this chaos to end even if his tough guy exterior and funny lines mask it. The Ganado were once normal people who lived happy lives like anyone else only for it to be robbed from them by a manipulator. You've arrived at a merchant you're not sure you can trust but it's the only safe place for you right now.
Every RE safe room theme can be boiled down to a single phrase: "You'll have to go back out there eventually." Both Serenity and the typewriter theme are perfect.

Honestly? I like this version. It fits the more grounded tone that the remake is going for, and it gives me the same relaxed feeling that the original does. It’s a win in my book!
I know a lot of people prefer the original, but in my opinion I absolutely love thid one, not to say I don't like the original, I just like the very desolate, lonely yet beautiful sounding tone of this one, and I would purposefully sit in the merchants menu just to listen to the beautiful soundtrack that was this, which I also would hum to.
Oh and another thing is this particular track perfectly captures finding a friendly face, in a zombie infested town, The merchant in this game serves somewhat as a friend, a slight bit of light at the end of a dark tunnel, maybe that's pretentious but the amount of times I would get excited to see a familar purple flame after having not seen the merchant for a bit.
I definitely like this version, it seems to give off a mysterious vibe, but I would definitely like to fall asleep to this version, but without the extra separate sounds. Thanks for sharing this.

It's a shame you can't get 100 shotgun shells anymore but I also see why, it way waayyyy too overpowered ^^; Even just 48 shells with maxed out stats is pretty powerful, and you get Infinite ammo for it nonetheless once beating Professional on S+ and get the cat ears

Capcom changed the music to avoid lawsuits. The original song is called: Burble and Pines by musician David Torn.
That is not true. To burble and pine is in the public domain and anyone can use it. If you purchase the classic OST DLC, To burble and pine is still there.
Whilst I agree, I think it's because every remake just has a different sounding save theme. I still hear the original song in this but with a more quiet, lonely tone
it also sounds longer? Kinda like how the typewriter theme is the same but with added instruments, just like Secure Place and Free From Fear
@@EtherealRE4 Exactly. Look at RE2R, it sounds nothing like the originals save theme. RE3R on the other hand was very very close to the original but I think all of them suit their games perfectly.

Sadly I think they avoided giving the Merchant conversation with Leon to not anger those clinging to nostalgia around every corner
People apparently love how the Merchant is a blank slate who's just there helping Leon for his own profit, with zero deep connection to the story. They even removed his Ganado eyes that subtly hinted he was also carrying a plaga.
It would've been cool if he still had the Ganado eyes and had some loose interactions with Leon about the game's plot, including him knowing Leon is carrying a plaga and Leon recognizing the Merchant has the same infected eyes as the Ganados and questioning why he isn't under Saddler's influence

Hey, nice video of Resident Evil 4! While I love the remake, I also have a soft spot for the original RE4. In fact, I just started a series playing the original RE4 on my cell phone, and it's been a thrilling experience. It's amazing how the game still holds up after all these years.

a serenity original ironicamente tem uma melodia mais notável, a do remake é mais ambiente msm, eu particularmente prefiro a original pq ela é extremamente especial pra mim, mas essa mais nova n fica mt pra trás tbm, bem gostosinha de ouvir
Ill always prefer the original. Out of nostalgia? Maybe, but it certainly is one of the most iconic melodies in gaming and it still randomly pops up in my head from time to time.

I honestly prefer this one over the original while I prefer the save theme from the original over the remake one. This sounds so nice and so ambient while the other sounds like a funeral is happening. It's sorta ambient but in my opinion not really if that makes sense.
I feel the same, absolutely adore the original Serenity and always will but ever since I posted this it's been the song that I've had on loop to help me sleep^^;
It's great but Serenity perfectly captures the Mystery and Design of the Village and the whole game itself. Imo The theme perfectly represents not knowing what's coming forward.

RE4 has been my favourite game since I was 11, so 10 years, but I think this is on par with the original 🥴
They really took the audible magic out of this track you can barely hear the original sample anymore too much synth pads and white noise this is like RE7's save music but a worse version of it, hope the original soundtrack can be used still

I'm afraid I have to agree. It's a beautiful piece, but it doesn't do Serenity justice. The new typewriter theme, on the other hand, is even better than the original. Nevertheless I will have this play over and over again.
It is a bit underwhelming. I thought it was going to be a lot better after watching your video, where you extracted the sound from the presentation a couple of months ago. The new merchant doesn't sound nearly as good as the original either. Then again, I'm playing it in Italian, so that doesn't bother me too much. In that version Leon has the same VA as Norman Jayden from Heavy Rain, which I find quite fitting, considering all the similarities between these characters. Furthermore, the original VA of Jayden happens to be called Leon.

Wow. Talk about screwing over the original artistic intent... I kinda already tell what will happen if they ever redo the first Devil May Cry's music, Serenity was so good you could hear it in the castle.

@@EtherealRE4 Well that's kind of a bummer for me it sells the entire RE4 Serenity theme and early 2000s Capcom vibes. It's iconic and memorable, goes completely well with the atmosphere in both games.
