this gentleman is very knowledgeable. Glad you had him on your show. Please bring him back soon.
The 60’s protests and social consciousness was a cool and necessary thing. It has nothing to do with the idiocy happening today. I remember people actually being friendly and smiling.
If we would only learn from this history....
Chuck Negron had absolutely one of the best lead voices of a rock band.
Three Dog Night were huge hit makers and yes Chuck, Cory & Danny were awesome singers but the band doesn't get nearly enough credit. They could play any style of music and were excellent musicians: Jimmy Greenspoon (keyboards), Joe Schermie (bass), Michael Allsup (guitar), and Floyd Sneed (drums).
They need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!
I read somewhere that the reason they aren't in the rock and roll hall of fame is because they never wrote any of their own music. Is that true?
@@Linda-zm6lk That is true but I guess it depends on who you are. Linda Ronstadt and most of the Motown artists didn't write their own songs either. Double standards or no standards, that's the Rock & Roll HOF. The critic's darlings are who gets in. BTW I love Ronstadt and Motown. I'm just making a point.
Agree 100%
They remain one of my fave groups of the rock era because the vocals are beyond great and the tunes they choose to record are so memorable.
Eli's Coming live 🔥🔥🔥
Imagine before leaving high school you were registered in the draft . You didn’t have a choice, you were either drafted heading to Vietnam or you fought on the streets for your freedom. So many , died at 19-20 years old not old enough to drink just die .
Not old enough to vote at the time as well, which led to the voting age lowered to 18 in 1971.
I get your point but actually during the 60s most states had 18 as the legal drinking age. It didn't become 21 until mid 80s. I think some states still have 18 for low alcohol content beer and wine.
All males were required to register with their draft board at 18. It wasn't a big deal at the time. I turned 18 in 1961. In my graduating class 6 were drafted and none went to Vietnam. I enlisted and spent 6 years on active duty and also didn't go to Vietnam. Most of the men were not drafted. In 1964 married men were exempted from the draft. Only 1 out of 10 draftees went to the infantry. Almost all states had 21 as the legal drinking age but military bases had an 18 age limit.
The addition of interviews to your channel has added such a rich layer of details that sets you apart from the rest. Please bring Tim back whenever possible. We LOVE stories! ❤❤❤❤
You can tell this fellow has such a depth of knowledge of music. I could listen to him for hours.
Indeed!!! Me too!! Love to hear his pearls of knowledge. 😊
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Eli's Coming" !!! (written by Laura Nyro!)
edit- Love this series. Tim dropping the knowledge that "Easy To Be Hard" and "Age Of Aquarius" written by the same songwriters!
James Rado, Gerome Ragni and Galt MacDermot.
Yes, Three Dog Night's live version of "Eli's Coming" is 🔥🔥🔥
@@Skeeter123 But not nearly as 🔥as Laura Nyro's version, tho....why don't more people know this!?
@SK-lk3iu Yes, Laura's is really good but I prefer 3 Dog Nights cover, that's just my preference 😊
@@Skeeter123 OK, glad you at least know the other version!
@@SK-lk3iu ☺️👍
You guys are breaking ground with this channel. Keeping the vibes alive! Love it.
-amazing !-
This is an awesome song! Three Dog Night was an amazing band. You really need to take a deep dive into them!!
Yes! Would love for them to check out the song "Liar," a cool, hard-hitting, minor key song that captures the angst of betrayal. Also, "Out In the Country," a breezy tune that marked one of the first pop songs about protecting the environment. 3DN could deliver the goods.
My friend as a teenager in Pittsburgh was Jerry Ragni, one of the writers of Hair. When the play launched in New York it took the world by storm. I'll never forget staying with Jerry in Greenwich Village and seeing the play. A truly magical time. Give peace a chance. Only love can conquer hate.
I love that Meatloaf and Diane Keaton were in the original on broadway.
@@Star_R666 Wow! I didn't know that.
I love this version but my favorite version is by Cheryl Barnes. She performs "Easy To Be Hard" in the movie version of "Hair". Her version brings tears to me - it is beautiful & angry & broken & passionate.
I suggest you watch the 1979 movie version "Hair" on your movie reaction channel. It is based on the 1968 Broadway Musical but there are differences in the story and songs (the movie does not have the nudity). Also it is worth seeing the stage musical if it comes to your city.
Again, I love the knowledge and insight by Mr Sommer. He would be a welcome repeat guest.
Thanks for today💜
Yes, Ms. Barnes nails the song in ways that Chuck Negron only hinted at.
And there are a few shots of bare asses in the movie, one or two flashes of breasts but nothing major.
@@MetFan37 yes, - I was wrong, thanks. I forgot about the army butts & the flashes in the night swimming scene. I saw the movie after the stage show - I guess it didn't register. Thanks again.
The song 'Good Morning Starshine' also came from the musical 'Hair', and you guys reacted to the version sung by Oliver about 5 months ago.
Love Three Dog Night. Their best song is Try a little tenderness. Check that out!
I so loved 3 Dog Night growing up. Chuck Negron was my favorite. I finally saw them in concert in the 80’s and they were and they sounded amazing. I was blessed to have family members to come home from the Vietnam war….so many didn’t.
There'll never be band again with so much talent.
Chuck Negron's cousin is actor Taylor Negron, the pizza delivery guy from "Fast times at Ridgemont high" he's been in so many movies.
Love Three Dog Night !!! They did a show in my hometown of Ardmore (about 90 miles south of Moore). It was in 1983 and they had an album out called It's A Jungle. After the show, we waited by their bus to try to see them. After a few minutes, Chuck Negron and Danny Hutton came out. Danny was carrying plates of food but I was able to get Chucks autograph. Danny said he would sign but hands were full. They spoke with us a few minutes then bus was about to leave. They did say that Danny Hutton was already on the bus, so missed talking with him. It was a great show and meeting them just made it better.
"Old Fashioned Love Song" live . . . . . IT'S A HOOT! . . . . .
I love when you have him on. I love hearing him talk about music. ❤
Thanks to Tim Sommer for adding his comments. You two do a great job. Keep them coming.
Have to check out their cover of Eli’s Coming live ( 1975).
This band was awesome overall, and not only because of their vocalists!
This is one of your very best guests! You need to explore all the songs from HAIR
Its a crime that they are not in the rock hall of fame.
Too good for the RRHOF.
Really enjoyed these segments with Mr. Tim Sommer. Thank you!
Each of the three lead singers had a #1 hit.
I listen to them ALL the time! They’re part of the soundtrack of my life.
"Hair" came out when I was in high school and when our music department put on a show for our school that was called "Our Favorite Song" where everyone performed their favorite song from a Broadway musical. So while everyone else was singing songs from "Oklahoma" or "South Pacific" or whatever, I performed "Where Do I Go" from "Hair." There I was, in my hippie clothes, singing and dancing to a number from a musical about the counter-culture! The kids in the audience loved it! Lol
Ladies & Gentlemen The Star of this video is "Lukas" lol 😄 He's grown up so big! Having his Mother's looks his Dad's build! WOW! Time flies. He has a lotta love around him. Good job Jay & Amber! GOOD Reaction!
I can't believe more people haven't suggested the 1975 live version of Eli's Coming. Hopefully at some point you'll be able to check it out.
I always loved this tune it reminds me of my younger days
The Drummer, Floyd Sneed was one of my early Drumming Heroes. I can remember playing along to their records and trying to imitate his chops and rhythms. My Mom would buy their albums for me and played them a lot herself because she loved the harmony. It was common for me to come home from school or come in the house during the summer, and hear Three Dog Night playing on the old Console Stereo, while Mom was cooking or cleaning the house.
Easy to be hard is my favorite 3 dog night song. I remember driving with my parents and made them turn up the AM radio when it came on.
Hair is one of my favorite movies! I met an ex marine in 86. He just was out of the service. I convinced him to watch Hair, he didn't want to. He did it for me. He liked it but he's still a Hank Hill!
I just love this series! You guys really, really, really need to check out "Eli's Coming". Jay will love how hard they rock out in that song!
I love this guest reviewer, this guy is good. I'm 74 and I've seen the Three Dog Night in concert 6 or 7 times and "Hair" the musical in a traveling Broadway show twice in Fort Worth. It was so good I had to see it again the next night! It was an experience, the cast during the show went into the audience and got every body singing and dancing, it was part of the show! Oh, I saw Hair twice in Fort Worth, Texas and I actually got an audition to join the troupe and I had to drive down to San Antonio, Texas to audition, so I got to see the show again and and meet and spend time with the cast and musicians. I haven't thought about this in years, thanks! Miss those days!
Try A Little Tenderness done on the live TV performance 1975 sung by Cory Wells is a standout!
Great interview with Tim! Love anything by Three Dog Night! Each lead member has a beautiful and compelling voice. Hope you react to the 1979 movie 'Hair'. The legendary Melba Moore who was in the original Broadway play has an appearance in the movie.
This conversation/video is a mini-lesson into the times of the 60's & 70's.
These are the conversations that the younger generation need, and want...To learn what the young people then were doing and speaking out about....well, it relates to everyone today..and you can hear/see it in this video!
Thank you to all of you!
Love this song!
Three Dog Night was huge when I was junior high and high school. This is one of my favorites. I remember the musical Hair. No way did I ever have a clue this song was from Hair. I did know that about The Cowsills' song...Hair.
I do hope Tim becomes a regular - he has so much knowledge and seems to appreciate your channel.
He should have his own channel (maybe he does).
3 Dog Night has some AMAZING music. Old fashioned love song, for one, Must let the show go on, is another, Elis coming, and many others! Love them!
Absolutely one of the best bands I've ever heard. A cultural bedrock item, Hair was. Hey Luca! Very nice show, everyone. Thanks.
Welcome back Tim, please!! Oliver had a hit song from "Hair" too!
Love this song! Tims recommendations and filling Jay and Amber in about Hair is Awesome.
Chuck is one. Of singer of all time he sounds great singing at any time
You haven't heard some of the best three dog night yet! joy to the world, celebrate, old fashioned love song, eli's coming, out in the country, black & white
And this is why we all follow your channel: the pure appreciation of the music. Thank you!
"Family of Man" and "The Show Must Go On" are awesome too. The crescendo at the end of "Easy To Be Hard" always gives me chills.
Best 3 Dog Night song - *Eli's Coming*
The musical "Hair" spawned hits to several artists/groups, Oliver - Good Morning Starshine, 5th Dimension - Aquarius / Let The Sunshine In, Cowsills - Hair, and many covered the songs from it.
Tim seems like quite the gentleman. I would strongly suggest listening to Black And White by Three Dog Night next!
One of my favorite songs...so appropriate for today's times ....
Luca wants to shine his light
its great have guests like Tim that can provide you with the context of the era that inspired the songs.
Y'all need to buy the Cast Album of Hair and listen to it in order. You can understand more of what the songs meant and how they worked together to tell the story of that time period.
Love Three Dog Night got to see them live 3or 4 times throughout the years and seen Chuck in later years about 4 times on the Happy Together tour the last time he came out with what I thought was a rope dragging behind him and I thought what in the world is he gonna do an aerial act or something but then I noticed tubes very smartly integrated into his glasses and nose and God bless him he was on oxygen and still sounding amazing!!!
This band has my heart. So many memories with them as a soundtrack. I recommend "Liar" and Eli's Coming" for the next 3DN reactions.
BTW, Chuck Negron's name is actually pronounced NEG'-ron. He & Danny Hutton are still around, Cory Wells died in 2015.
I saw Negron perform solo at a local theater a few years ago. He sang everyone's part on 3 Dog hits and was superb!
Be blessed ❤
I remember seeing the broadcast of Three Dog Night doing (well, miming) that song back when their version of it first came out. I was just an 11-year-old kid, but really impressed, so I bought the album, Suitable for Framing. Two songs on that album include the horn section from the band Chicago.
Three Dog Night singing "Easy To Be Hard" was their second of nineteen Top 20 hits in a row! You have reacted to Cory Wells and Chuck Negron singing lead in previous videos. Now checkout the 3rd singer Danny Hutton with his lead vocals on "Liar". Thanks. 😎
I had the good fortune to them live in 1974 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Chuck sang this song and you could hear every girl in the crowd coo. They were truly a great band and they were also great showmen.
This is one of my favorite 3DN songs. Also Pieces of April.
"It's For You " written by Lennon and McCartney. It's on the live album they did...wonderful harmonies.
I love Three Dog Night!!! Thank you for this anytime!! ❤
This song is fire. AN EXCELLENT CHOICE.
I'm the play, it's sung by a young woman being rejected by a young man. He cared about "The bleeding crowd" but was calous towards her.
Easy To Be Hard is my favorite by Three Do Night! Oh I wish I could go back to these great times. ♥️♥️♥️👍
I am 61 years old. My brother gave me Live At The Forum when i ws 6, for Christmas. ( he was 14 and i was already swiping his records,) and this became my favorite song. I played that record over and over. ❤ Then I saw Hair, the movie, when I was a teenager and saw the version in the movie and absolutely fell in love with that. (Whole movie!!!) I can easily say that this is my Favorite Song Of All Time. I adore it. 😊❤❤❤
Love these segments with Tim Sommer. He brings his knowlege and wisdom of the music and the times.
So happy I actually got to hear this on the radio>>>> Better times, better lives
for your next 3 dog night I would highly recommend BLACK AND WHITE fantastic slong, fantastic message
Tremendous Tremendous show.
Thank you...❤
Music Heals, Beauty Heals🎉
Three Dog Night is still one of my favorite bands. I graduated high school in Indiana back in 1975 and spent the summer in Cypress, California, with an aunt and uncle. TDN were playing at the Hollywood Bowl and I asked permission to buy tickets. Uncle Bill told me he'd think on it. The uncle showed up after work with tickets to the Hollywood Bowl...but the artist was Beverly Sills. No rock music in his home. One of my biggest regrets of my teen years. Oh well. Still own all their albums.
Wow, I had no idea they wrote this!! You have to watch this musical 🎵 Please watch Hair next!!! It’s excellent!
Good song good reaction
I saw HAIR on Broadway. Fantastic!
I really enjoy it when you guys have a guest as part of your musical journey. BTW I see Luka as an old for OU in about 15 years!
Jennifer Warnes was an actress in the original Hair. She sings I'VE HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE the theme from the film Dirty Dancing, but her best song is Right Time of the Night.
For my 16th birthday, me and a couple of my friends went to see Tree Dog Night in Wichita, KS in January 1970. We had a great time!
Loved Tim Sommer’s input on this one. Great song, great background info on the music of this time.
THE TRAGICALLY HIP: LOCKED IN THE TRUNK OF A CAR.😁
Three Dog Night.
My first Concert.
These colabs have made this the best music video reaction on CZcams.
That was gorgeous &informative. Loved that song since childhood!! Great chemistry you two & your guest have. btw- Your little surprise guest is gorgeous too! ✌️️ y'all
Chuck Negron is one of rock's greatest voices.
Good memories of slow dancing to this gem.
Three Dog Night/Pieces Of April. This one is their most mellow hit😮😊
"Out in the Country" is the mellowest.
Thank you when I'm alone you guys are there
"Pieces of April"
You guys NEED to hear The Babies! They had two big hits and you would love them. Isn't it time has horns.... And you'll love the lead singer's voice!!!
Thanks again Tim for bringing us another great song!
Just love watching these reactions with the wonderful stories.
Wonderful, great interview!
Check out Three Dog Night's "Out In The Country".
Great job with this video. Great insight, knowledge with facts. Great having a a special guest. Awesome Job.
Well back again, got myself educated. You made a great choice on a guest host. The man speaks from experience. Have him back again when it is relevant to the videos you are reacting to. Great job guys . And as a side note I found It sweet your adorable son just showed up unannounced. He will be making his own video reactions soon!
