    I am saddened by this video because my son was wrongly imprisoned there for 15 yrs and finally exonerated in 2001.

      Wow I'm so sorry. I hear about exonerations all the time following the ACLU on social media. I think about how many innocents are in jail because cops and detectives just want a good closed case ratio.

    I’ve been to the prison museum before in Huntsville. It is very interesting to see all those things, but when I ran into old sparky, there was something that just would not let me stand to close it (even being behind the barricade). I normally don’t really get intimidated but something just kept me at a distance from that thing.

    5:55 as someone who used to work at one of those prisons in Huntsville, it does not surprise me that camera was used up to 1991. Texas budget for TDCJ is low, the uniforms suck, the equipment is cheap, guns are vietnam era. It's ridiculous.

    We just moved from Huntsville there's actually 7 prisons I worked at Ellis, Walls and Ferguson units we loved going all the time take a walk across from the Sam Houston State University and youll see the duck pond on Sam Houston ave is the Sam Houston Museum he's buried by the Mance Park school on 10th and don't forget to go stand at the Statue of Sam be safe be good and keep traveling bro

    I used to visit a friend of mine who went to prison for five years for driving drunk because he hit a state trooper car after leaving a birthday party in 1982.

    Kinda messed up how they underplayed prison tho. Makes it seem more like timeout than hell.

      What do you mean underplayed, the museum is partially meant to show how bad prison is. For example you can go inside the replica cell and feel how uncomfortable the beds are.

      @@jacksonhester163 I think they might be talking about things like human rights abuses that still occur in jails very commonly to this day. Inmates still get beat by COs, they also face retribution by COs in the form of contrived "shots" which can extend prison stays, and they also get murdered in jail plenty when it's the CO's jobs to keep an eye out and make sure everyone's safe.

      From what I know, these “arts n crafts” made by inmates that are low level prisoners. Levels 3 n up (murders n Etc.) Don’t have the privilege to do things like that 💁🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️ don’t be so quick to assume.

    Years ago, a friend of mine, who was a prison Barber, witnessed a murder by stabbing, in the Barber Shop. The inmate used a handmade knife to commit the murder. Needless to say, my friend walked out and never returned to the prison.

    Omg your on my side of town! I love that museum too! Make sure too check out the Sam Houston memorial museum as well! I worked in Ellis as a Correctional Officer for about a year. My husband still works as a Correctional Officer at Eastham and has been one for the past 10 years now.

    The model of “leather restraints” in the display case are still used in many areas, one of which is on lethal injection gurneys.
    The Humane Restraint company, in Wisconsin if I recall, made/makes these.
    Where I work I had to repair some of these after years of service. They are very solid, yet relatively soft; humane…

    Very interesting museum. I loved the beautiful furniture the prisoners made. Yes. Id love to have it in my home however the electric chair is the one furnishing I do not want. Loved the Karla Faye Tucker stamp. Would love to get one. She did not deserve to die. She was reformed for sure.

    Yes I have been to prison in Missouri, Fulton, st Joseph, bowlingreen, Farmington, moberly, Jefferson city, it was not fun but I did have some decent friends and had good and bad memories..

    These places are so interesting. Ive been to Alcatraz East after seeing your video on it. I myself have never been in prison but ive had family members who have and my son has had a few friends who have been locked up; some with 2 and 3 numbers. We dont know what kind of items we use daily that may be made in the U.S. prison systems.

    Prison art goes back a long way. There's an episode of the British show 'Time Team' where they investigate Normal Cross, a Napoleonic POW camp, and see some of the items the prisoners made out of bone. They're gorgeous.

    I went to college in Huntsville! My first year dorm was about a block away from Walls, where they execute! You could hear the sirens all the time, it was crazy. Later on I ended up living down the street from the cemetery where they bury the prisoners lol
