- Subaki is an easy unit to make useful in Birthright, but making him actually good is a lot more difficult. Today, Bluegh is joining me to go over the unconventional methods needed to get Subaki to contribute meaningfully to the team.

Subaki is secretly a top 1 fates unit because he's perfect and his hair is beautiful
He was the only one on my team that could take out Ryoma in revelation. Subaku is insane.
so true
Best thing about Subaki is his map sprite when heart sealed into a samurai. Why is bro so pretty.
I always try to marry him when I play birthday but I always come back to Asugi, he is just sooooo handsooome and his portrait is different from the others so I like that too
How could they do the first male Pegasus Knight so dirty? I don’t understand; I was looking at his speed growth the other day and it killed me inside. 35%. Ooof.
I am loving these Birthright unit analysis.
He's just a wyvern rider in disguise
Marry Subaki to set his inner wyvern lord free.
Birthright is full of these characters with weird growth spreads. Azama (buff AF cleric), Sakura (weirdly strong/tank cleric), Rinkah (high def/low HP), Hinata (slow myrm)...
Gotta watch the full video later but please keep making these. Fates (mostly Conquest I'll admit) is my favorite FE game and there isn't really enough general discussion of units and mechanics. The best I get is playthroughs
so real these videos are straight up one of a kind it’s so hard to find any discussion on units for the fates games
Subaki is such a weird unit, it really feels like he was built to do everything tanky, but nothing really offensive:
He's got high Def growth to tank physical attacks, his default class is Sky Knight, which has high Res growth and gives access to Warding Blow, he can reclass to Samurai to get Duelist's Blow to dodge tank, gets Darting Blow to patch up his Speed on Player Phase.
His offense is much improved with the breaker weapons (Axe Breaker, Lance Breaker, Swordcatcher) and his personal skill helps touch up their low hit rates.
A real jack-of-all trades, master of none (ironic that he gets access to Master of Arms). Kinda fits with his personality though, he's more fixated on having no weaknesses, which means he'd naturally lose out on a more specialized role.
Subaki is all about defense on paper just like Hana is all about offense
@@thomasquesada7248 Which also fits her personality, because she has that warped mentality that the greatest thing a Samurai can do is die for their liege.
She's all about Dying like a true knight!
Ah subaki, meh in BR, amazing in Rev.
Rev is THE Subaki route, he's so good there.
I wouldn't say super good. He comes in super underleveled and very weak for the chapters right after he joins. Either because of Archers or 1-2 ranged. Or because chapter 10 lol.
He is useful on chapter 9 as a Taxi but he is too weak to do anything to do to the ennemies. That will most likely be Kaze's job if you trained him in the prologue and Jakob/Corrin.
You can absolutely invest in him and make him decent but sky knight is just not that great of a class. If you make him a kinshi knight he'll start with E rank bows which sucks as well.
If only BR have the early Fuga’s wild ride map as well
Revelation gives him more pairing options. Axebreaker from the hero class can be pretty handy along with sol.
@@cloudy978 Not really? Subaki in Rev is your carry investiment unit, especially if you go Male corrin where you lack Jakob. He at base can get a Rinkah Backpack + a Str, Speed and Defense tonic (HP too if you want) and start 2 rounding most enemies. He's your best exp funnel for fugas wild ride due to flying and being one of the few tanky units you get early on. He's even better if you do Mozu before Fuga but most don't do it.
Kaze is also pretty good but he has a completely different role compared to Subaki. Subaki is your Christmas Cav for Rev basically.
Also what archers? There's a few on the Fuga map and none on chapter 10, chapter 11 is mostly ninjas and 12 has no bows either.
Rev would just hard outscale him... Dudes growths are way too shit to be able to handle anything that grows
I think it should be noted that his personal negates the early game triangle disadvantage and over doubles his own advantage. At D Rank on his advantages he actually has hit/avoids close to B Rank. Granted, he has to have full health for it to work so any guaranteed damage skills (poison strike, savage blow, grisly wound) or just on enemy turn when you can’t guarantee full health it’s practically useless. But still nice to have.
I checked the internal growths; excluding characters like Reina and Gunter, I think Subaki has the lowest growth rate total in the game, besides Setsuna.
Subaki reaches 250% total before class. Relative to other non-Corrinsexuals, he's down there but not the worst. He beats out: Setsuna, Hinata, Nyx, and Hisame (before mother). But oh well, growth total isn't everything. Arthur sits at 255% total growth rate and I consider him to actually have great growths.
@@VeXJLArthur knows luck bane is the way to go
@@VeXJL i was sitting here surprised to hear arthur is in the bottom 5 growth totals, knowing how solid all his growths are - but then i remembered there’s a very *misfortunate* reason for that
Just found this channel. This is the kinda stuff I love
I can always appreciate Subaki for having Perfectionist. Great skill, and I'd argue that it makes him pretty good in Chapter 7 since he can easily reach 100% Hit on the Fighters and especially the Outlaws. Also great for Chapter 10 Ninjas. And another benefit to this is that he's one of the best units for Swordcatcher! Since Swordcatcher is so unbelievably inaccurate (65 Hit), Subaki's actually one of the few who can wield it and reliably get 100% hit rates.
My take on Subaki is that... he's great for early game, but he gets benched in favour of 1-2 range juggernauts (which basically happens to most of the cast lol). Being a Sky Knight is very... polarizing for Subaki. Sky Knight has the flight which is amazing for Subaki... but the class really does not have the stats aside from Spd to back Subaki up to really let him excel. And this affects not only Subaki, Hinoka gets hit hard here too and arguably harder since she's already speedy. And it does not scale well at all into Birthright lategame because Birthright lategame just be like that. It's a bit unfortunate. Subaki is kinda dealt a poor hand in which it's harder to take advantage of his virtues (extremely accurate player phase unit) when the game doesn't value that highly.
Subaki feels like a romhack unit but like a romhack unit who is thrown in haphazardly in a first project just to try to be quirky and goofy
I finally have some time to watch one of these analyses, given that I was swamped in deadlines. And just in time for one of my favorite units in Fates. I love using him, but I have yet to find a role for him where his strength doesn't end up lackluster lmao
I like to think the reason Azura's parallel class is Troubadour is because her mother was a Strategist so she kind of inherited the class, but it was a recessive gene, of a class, somehow.
That's actually not the reason at all: the actual reason is because the troubadour is a term for a male singer and storyteller, and what EXACTLY is Azura all about? That's right: singing! It also explains where Shigure gets it from, as he fits the term of what it means to be a troubadour to a tee; it also makes it ironic in my mind that for the longest time, the class was female-only for some reason. The only reason why this mentality persists is because people don't know what an actual troubadour (not what they are in Fire Emblem) is, so they see that her mother has that same class set and just assume that's the reason, when in actuality, it's probably because of what I've been writing that she has that class to begin with
@@matthewkuscienko4616 So Troubadour means "Ye' Old CZcamsr"
It’s been 12 days since Balk last uploaded and I’m starting to hear colors and taste sounds
Although Subaki is generally outclassed for just about anything you want to do with him, I do like that he asks for very little to just be solid
You probably won’t stick with him long term, but his presence is never NOT appreciated and there are certainly worse fates in an FE game than transitioning from a decent early combatant to a more specialized utilitarian role.
If you marry him as a Corrin with mercenary talent, he can have Camaraderie, Amaterasu, Good Fortune, Sol, and Renewal all at once. You could put him in a class where he can use a blessed spear, too. Probably not useful, but funny.
beep block skyway hype
Birthrights was my first FE game. I fumbled all the way through it, but he did end up quite tanky and got me through the final chapters which was a sudden spike in difficulty that I didn't expect. That playthrough taught me a lot though and I was able to get through Conquest later. even though I really didn't like most of the supports and Fates story in general, Subaki was certainly one of my favourites.
I usually use him early game as a swordcatcher unit due to his massive skill+personal skill giving him good accuracy whit it then reclass him later down the line into a spear fighter where he can make good use of the HP/Def to slap enemies whit Seals.
What's funny about marrying Subaki to Mozu is that you can master seal him to Falcon Knight for Rally Speed. Then marriage seal him to Knishi Knight so he can get Quick Draw. So in a vacuum it's a very low investment Subaki build. You could even throw in friendship seal for Rally Luck/Magic or Renewal if you want.
I'm curious as to when you two will discuss a unit in Conquest as I find that route to be considerably more difficult.
he's so skillful!
Two important numbers: 20% speed growth and 5% res growth before class bonuses. Just terrible even in a game as easy as Birthright. If you ever reclass him out of Pegasus Knight, you'll see how bad he actually is. Not good bases overall either.
He is just a vehicle for giving a Partner Class and facilitating a good pass down to Caeldori (as a Cordelia guy from Awakening.....).
Hinoka- Gets Samurai, gives Caeldori Spear Fighter, Red Hair.
Oboro - Gets Pegasus, gives Caeldori Spear Fighter, Blue Hair (Lucina 2.0?). She also does like his pairups more than Hinoka.
Mozu - Gets Pegasus (synergy with Archer), gives Caledori Villager (synergy with Samurai), Brown/Black Hair (classic look). Unfortunately requires Shiro or Corrin for Spear Fighter.
Considerations for other mothers?
Setsuna/Orochi/Felicia/Rinkah - Nukes Caeldori's growths and/or stat mods. None of these even want Pegasus or are not very good in their own right.
Hana - Gives Shrine Maiden to Caeldori which is not at all necessary. Hana doesn't get a bonus class.
Kagero - Anti-synergy with Caeldori (increases Str (Prodigy procs less), lowers the Spd mod (-2 total)). Kagero doesn't really want Pegasus, and why waste Ninja on this dude?
Azura - No new classes for Shigure (he can already friendship Hisame for Samurai), no new classes for Azura (shouldn't really mess with her though), and Caeldori/him get Troubador (yay?).
Sakura - Gives Shrine Maiden to Caeldori which is not at all necessary. Sakura doesn't get a bonus class. Just always pair Sakura with Saizo and thank me later.
In conclusion, love the video, get Subaki benched ASAP for better units.
I hope a Sakura video is coming soon I really want to know what would be the best way of using her.
I like using him as a General
Next video for Corrin? Hoping for a 5 hour video
If you alow joke weapon, the Pne Branch makes him one of the better early game carrys. 11Mt makes for some beefy dualstrikes. kinda Sad that their is no "Moral" way to optain them in more sweaty runs.
*sigh* i will be honest i have played br once(neither time "using" Subaki), but i have played alot of Rev.
Every time i look at Subaki i think to myself "He must be good, surely..." Then i play the game...
I’m very tempted to either make him my rally bot or a Seals bot with seal Atk/Def/Res in Ninja, I’ll have to look into who Caldori prefers as a mom+ what the other fathers would like
He is very pretty as a Ninja to be fair XD
To me Subaki is pretty much the definition of those units that people always use the "they tend to fall of" -line of.
A lot of those kinda units I can just roll my eyes of since they'll work just fine if you invest in them or just keep on using 'em in general, but Subaki... Subaki has always fallen off SO FAST on my playthroughs that I'm not sure I can even say "fall off" as he never really spreads his wings to begin with.
It also doesn't help that if he gets stats srewed, one way or the otheer, then he is in REALYL deep end as that's definitely the last thing he wants and needs with all his competition he is against.
Basically one of the good things I can say about Subaki is that he is a good kill securer for your weaker units to get EXP for and also give EXP to your healers while at it... Whoppee....
My opinion is that he is somewhat more useful in early game Revelations because you don't get Hinoka until much later, but even there, I found myself marrying him to Mozu and then noticing that Mozu as a Sky Knight and Caledori both outclassed him over time. Caledori first, but even Mozu seemed to grow into the role better than he did.
Even if I haven’t actually tried it, I feel Orochi x Subaki could actually be quite nice. He gives her speed and some extra bulk for early game, and both can early promote, spam rods until hitting Rally Speed and Magic, then pass those down to Caeldori for a flying staffer who can use the Bolt Naginata effectively and use her rallies to make any Oni Chieftains more easily hit one rounding thresholds. Caeldori in general doesn’t mind how Orochi nerfs her strength and speed because of Prodigy and Darting Blow, and the magic 1-2 range of the Bolt Naginata with a 50% magic growth when in Falcon seems fairly strong, especially when again there’s the chance that Prodigy can help when she hasn’t levelled strength much. It’s not really for Subaki, as you say, but he’s likely better off contributing to the successes of others anyway because his stats are outclassed in a combat role.
Fun fact, Caeldori provides up to 30% accuracy bonus when her mother is Orochi in an offense pair up, making her a really good offensive pair up bot
Death Blow in Fates gives Crit instead of damage. Then again, if he crits, then that IS extra damage anyways. It's the only game that Crit is given.
He's the best unit in all of fire emblem frfr
really wish his strength was swapped with his defense it feels like such a flavor fail. subaki as this prodigy pegasus knight by all means should be good in combat and low def makes sense for someone who would be overconfident and reckless. Also still funny to me that good defense in birthright is so rare and yet one of the few units who has it subaki is so bad like wtf. I actually really like him personally and wish he was better
Easy answer. He's a dude that's why
He isn't really overconfident and reckless though. He purposely tries his hardest to come off as perfect and tries to hide any sign of flaw. He's very skilled at what he tries to do, but isn't actually perfect ofc so it's kinda fitting from a flavour perspective that his best stats are skill and def
I really wanted to like Tsubaki but when I use him it's never what I want. Even the +15 avoid he gets isn't that useful as avoid tanking isn't that useful in Fates if you're not Ryoma or running endgame skills
Honestly, Subaki probably was made a joke character. On purpose. Being weak, on its own, is something I could've let slide, because Pegasus Knights don't tend to have good one-hit damage... but he's also slow, which means unlike Sumia, Shanna, Florina, or what have you, he can't hope to make up for his poor damage with follow-up attacks. His defensive build is nice, but his class set doesn't allow him to get much mileage out of it (his alternate class is Samurai, also something that ain't known for taking hits like a champ). His personal skill is garbage too; 15 hit and avoid only at full HP... which he will lose really quickly because he's slow, and thus cannot dodge well anyway. As if they didn't give him enough middle fingers already, Hinoka joins the next chapter, and Reina not long after her, and Scarlet comes not long after HER. That said... he's better on Revelation, largely because Hinoka joins much later. Unfortunately, Reina still joins early, and Camilla comes not long after.
Marry female corrin, get general, profit
Subaki is like theoretically okay from a design standpoint, being a defensive guy in a class that has base speed and normally low defense seems like a good way to even things out, but actually, no he just becomes more and more mediocre as the game progresses. Also i dont like his supports which is all too common in birthright
He's an early-mid filler. It's that simple folks.
