This didn't seem like Gary's fault at all...he got fucked with a situation and then Opie jumped on him as if he planned to fuck them over.
One time, about 10 years back, I was farting in a buddies bbq pringles can and just about to seal her back up(sour cream and onion it up) I hear opie go, "hold on, hold on, I smell something". Thats litterly the only time I've ever laughed at something he said.

Ability to notice talent. Gleaned the best parts of Stern's golden age show and directed a better version of it. Rallied the fans to a common enemy. Made the show seem cooler than the celebrities and comics it had on. If you listen to the WNEW stuff especially and early xm, it's clear his DNA is all over the show. Look at the hallway interview post Boston mayor prank. Anthony was a timid little girl, Opie was ready for his headshot. By 2009 though he become unlistenable, probably because his cohosts are two fruits in a pod and turned on him. Waah, you were mean to my gf who blew an intern, waah, you didn't say thank you to my mediocre comic friend who's lucky to even be on the program. All 3 of these shitheads are where they are now for a reason

Opie and Howard have rather similar personalities. The difference is that Howard is a better businessman. Howard going to therapy made him aware of his faults, it didnt eliminate any of them. They both think they have a better understanding of people because of their "horrible childhoods" which in reality were relatively average. They are Dennis from Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Opie is funniest when he's fucking furious, mostly because I enjoy hearing his misery on air. Jimmy when he's furious, however, is goddamn hilarious.

Not for nothing, I could care less about Opie hate but management and angry bits were and always will be gold. Op, Ant and Jim could easily do, let’s say a one episode podcast a week and just reminisce and it would be great. Call it “Nothing to gain and nothing to lose”.
Although I usually love Angry Opie, it got a bit annoying when he kept passive aggressively reading comments about Radio Wizard just so he could openly insult him. And this wasn't Gary's fault. If you want to trash somebody trash the Hard Rock. Opie sometimes acts as though he's Elvis and people should treat him accordingly. Irritating when people walk around with a more inflated sense of self worth than they've earned.

I'm on an Opie kick. I can't say I prefer him to even Jim & Sam. But this is one of the best examples of how he was great. All that said, it's not a fun listen. But if you're on board with Gary. Go soak your head.
Him bitching and whining and trying to be a tough guy and declaring he took a course on "Semantics" and therefore knows how to read people is him being great? I guess the bar is low for the 'Destroyer'....
The only remotely impressive thing about him is his ability to tell someone exactly what he thinks of them, but even that isn't impressive once you understand it comes from his sociopathy.
xSKRIPx your pretty spot on i just started listening to these guys in the past few years, and this is by far the most comfortable I have heard Opie in a clip since like them going to terrestrial radio back in ‘06, the other 99.99% of time i cannot stand him even in some of the early satellite stuff. But there was a clear split if you listen when they lost the terrestrial radio gig. However I will defend opie on the fact that he has done 2 of the greatest things, the poker chip incident and the bernie goetz incident both are top 15 things.
