Rainy Monster Infested Post-Apocalyptic City Ambience

- The dripping rain through the broken cracks. The creak of the building perhaps about to collapse any moment. The crack of lighting and roil of thunder. The storm has hit the city with full force. Off in the distance is the familiar sound of birds, a sign that this storm must soon pass. But there is something else out there- something sinister sounding, and completely unknown. Perhaps the storm is not the most dangerous thing this ruined city has in store.
The city had been demolished in one of the first waves, but buildings still stood. Rickety as they are, they were better protection from the rain than any other options around. High ground was supposedly safer, though from the sounds of the metal in this building perhaps braving the storm would have been a better alternative. At least the rain isn’t quite as heavy in here as outside- though the leaks are quite large.
It’s a hell of a storm outside, and has been raging for hours now. Being up high above the cityscape, able to see everything, it is obvious just how demolished civilization has become. This storm may well take out what little there is left. At least human infrastructure has proven to be fairly sturdy.
The bombs going off are the vivid memory everyone alive tries to forget and just can’t. It was chaos. Buildings collapsing, people screaming and running about, instant destruction for anything that was too close to a bomb that had fallen. In those few moments of horror one might say humanity was finally united. And then the majority of us were simply gone. Since the bombs wiped almost everyone and everything out, and the radiation left behind left the earth nothing more than a landfill, getting an idea of survivors was almost impossible. It had been radio silence since the bang of the bombs. After encountering a few different groups of people, suddenly it was obvious why the bombs had tried to do away with humanity. People were evil and cruel, and this new age they were living in did nothing but bring out the worst in them.
In times like these, where there seems to be nothing but death and destruction everywhere, it is hard not to wonder what is evil, and what is not. There are things out there now, things that are indescribable. Things that make your skin crawl, experiences that haunt your nightmares and leave you snapping awake with a racing heart and sweaty brow. Images of creatures we never knew existed, of your loved ones’ skin peeling from the bone as they disintegrate before your eyes and your name the last thing on their lips, of bones and body parts at angles you didn’t know were possible. But still, the survivors left behind are bad enough to make you wonder if we weren’t the real monsters all along.
There are birds cawing in the distance, so the storm must be about to end. There’s something else out there though. Every now and then it makes its sinister sound that is entirely foreign. One can’t help but have their hair stand on end at the sound. Since the radiation new creatures have been popping up. Mutants, perhaps. Either way, they are something mankind has never dealt with before, and they are more lethal and ravenous than anyone has ever seen. Anyone who has managed to see one up close and personal did not live through the encounter.
Another loud disembodied gurgle sounds again, this time much, much closer than the last. Suddenly a little bit of rain does not seem so bad. The sounds are growing louder and more pronounced; they are definitely drawing closer in. Perhaps the storm is not the most dangerous thing this ruined city has endured.

Day 1 - It's happening. The cataclysm. I'm hiding in my lab until this storm passes. Never thought my research would pay off, but now the veil has been opened and i'm one of the only people who knows what we're up against. There are two types. The ones that steal skin to disguise, and the screaming horned ones. I have enough canned food to survive at least a month, but i can't say the same for my water levels.
Day 2 - My head is starting to ache. Last night something was at my door. I didn't answer, but it sounded like a man was trying to sell me something. The skin stealers are trying to act human, but this one doesn't seem to be so smart. After a few minutes he left. Today i'm going to try and find water. With this constant thunderstorm, it shouldn't be hard to set up some kind of raincatcher. I headed to the surface and managed to get a drink of rainwater, but when i saw one of the screamers in the streets below i went back inside. apparently their antlers have healing properties, but only an idiot would try to catch one.
Day 3 - Something's going on with the storm. I have a weird feeling it's tied to the clock tower. It struck thirteen last night, and the sky was lit up green for a split second. Maybe it holds the key to stopping this infestation. I was out collecting rainwater when i saw a skin stealer. You can tell it's a skin stealer because their skin looks either too tight or too sagging. never turn your back on them. I pretended to be oblivious and led him back to my lab where i killed him with an axe. I didn't want to kill anything, but it's for science. I'm going to study his body.
Day 4 - A loud bellow echoed through the entire city last night. The clock struck thirteen again. I heard what i assumed to be a real human in the streets outside, but when i heard that otherworldly screech i knew he had been seen by a screamer. When i went out for rainwater i saw something flying overhead. are more monsters coming in from the other realm?
Day 5 - I found an old hunting shotgun in my lab. I'm going to try and make it to the clock tower. I've packed some food and water, some medical supplies and my journal. Out in the streets, i saw more of those flying creatures. One of them saw me, but it didn't attack. Instead it let out a strange, almost electronic whine, and flew towards the clock tower. I found a skin stealer 'nest'. They cluster together in dark areas, just standing completely still like mannequins. It's haunting.
Day 6 - I saw a screamer. Thank god it didn't see me. Apparently they can climb up walls like a monkey. The clock struck thirteen and a huge crowd of the flyers came out of the tower. It's a portal or something. it has to be. One of them was struck by lightning and fell out of the sky. I managed to take a look at the body. it's like a human, but the arms and legs are in stiff angles, and skin from the belly and back has been grafted between their limbs to create a macabre glider. These things aren't natural. somebody is making them.
Day 7 - Something giant is out on the streets. I don't know what it is, but i saw a silhouette while plundering an old warehouse. It's huge, almost the size of a bus. I have named it the Goliath.
The skin stealers are getting more frantic. They're yelling at me from buildings, demanding that i come inside. They don't hide it well, but they never break character completely. at least, not when you look at them. When you look away, thats when they rip you apart, taking your skin and making a new costume for themselves.
Day 8 - I think i'm starting to lose it. I'm seeing the Goliath everywhere. His sharp teeth. His torso is covered with scars, and bulges in strange places. I feel like whatever made the flyers also made the Goliath, ripping him apart and pumping something bad into his body. The clock struck thirteen and i saw something in the lightning's flash. The clock tower is a nest of spiders.
DAY 9 I SAW A SCREAMER A SECRETMER SAW ME IT SAR MW I RNS IBUT IGH
Day ??? - I don't know what happened. I woke up face down in an alley. I remember the catyclysm, the monsters, the clock striking thirteen, did the screamer make me pass out? Why didn't it kill me? Am i dead? Am i real? No, i have to keep going. Goliath taunts me in my sleep.
Day 10 - The clock tower is guarded by screamers. flyers patrol in the sky above. I see an open window, but i have to climb up to it. I managed to get inside, but a flyer spotted me. They never kill, they just whine and fly away. they're helpless, like me. Tick tock. Goliath's bellows echo through this place. He's their prize animal. Inside the monsters get more unhinged. Crawling, horrid things, with heads that open up. They set themselves on fire. I don't know why. They walk into the flaming torches. They don't kill anything by doing it. They just kill themselves.
Day 11 - It's dark. I hear crunching. I know it's not fucking rats, John! What? I dont feel well. I looked at a window and felt an urge to jump off. But would i escape in death? What about the head openers? are they trying to escape too? where the hell are they coming from? John, why didn't you tell me? You knew this would happen!

Day 12 - I'm at the top of the clock tower. Goliath was waiting for me. The roof is gone. Flyers circle overhead. they all see me, but nobody can do anything. Goliath pointed at me. Then he lumbered into the darkness. John, i know you want to see Mary. what happened was an accident. life goes on, John. I keep on blacking out. If i'm calculating this right, it should hit hour 13 any minute now.

Day 13 - There's nothing which can be done now, My food is about to run out. My vision is blurred. John, we could have brought her back some other way. I know you miss her, i fucking know you miss her. I'm so sorry, i know it wasnt your fault but i'm sorry.

John, were you making the flyers? Was it mary? Oh god... she's still conscious in there. She thinks they're dolls. Oh jesus fucking christ, John, why did you keep her conscious? I know you miss her but you have to let her rest. She's in hell, and she's conscious. She's sculpting nightmares out of flesh and bone. John, i'm not saying this is your fault. I know you want to kill the man at the wheel of that car, and i know you want mary back. But she has to rest now. John, please.
Day 14 - Goliath handed me a box. Inside was a winding key. I placed it inside the clock tower and turned. The bells rang out. I saw Mary's lifeless form. I saw John's.
And the rain is starting to stop.

I know nobody is gonna find my comment but watching this image and listening to ambient i imagine in my mind that im standing at the top of high unstable building watching all godzilla like monsters roaming the streets and hiding at different floors screaming from far away. I get the feeling of being safe because of how high from the ground i am but at the same time lonely and helpless just trying to realise what this world become. This image is very emotional and full of life for me

I can just imagine being trapped on the upper floors, rather die slowly than be torn apart by what is below.
Diary log: I’ve came across another group of survivors, turns out they’ve also been using rooftops to evade the monsters from the ground, we had a interesting conversation, but one thing I found we all had in common, is that no one has ever made eye contact with the monsters and lived to tell the tale (even by accident) this probably confirms my theory, that once you’ve made eye contact, regardless of the distances, you’d only have a few moments left before those things get you.
There was a pen an paper rpg about things from our myths, stories, dreams and desires becoming real and destroying the world. There was a section for the "nightmare monsters" that still prowled the earth, and some of it was really chilling; the chart had things like "looking into it's eyes", "being exposed to it's blood" on one table, and things like "you begin to worship it", "you hear it's thoughts in your dreams" and "it now knows your name".

Idk what it is but to this day this sends me off to sleep.
I always imagine there's horrible monsters roaming and hunting but I am totally safe and unreachable in a safe house or barricaded / hidden strong hold. And the idea of something out there as a threat but being incapable of reaching me in my nice warm bed is like weirdly relaxing to me.
This relaxes me and helps me sleep right away. I think I might just need to see a therapist.

I have a few little cousins that recently got into table top RPG‘s. I was the one who got them into it of course. Originally their parents were very dismissive, and didn’t want me teaching them how to play. However, after a while, and me actually proving to them that all the lies that they had learned about tabletops were just that, lies. Now I’ll run a campaign for them whenever I can make it over to that part of the world. I’ll be sure to use this ambience for our next game, shouldn’t be too far from now, I finally have some free time opening up.

I've been hiding out here in the big clock tower i have fixed it up and I've
made it livable and have a security alarms for added protection....
I have a special stairway that I go up and down on I'm very cautious and
careful when I do and I always arm myself with the best weaponry
2 powerful pistols,an even powerful machine gun all with
an efficient amount of ammo and several sharp edged
weaponry such as knives and a broadsword....
I'm also extremely & efficiently trained in various hand to hand
combat fighting skills from numerous martial arts,wrestling from all
styles,boxing and kickboxing also,so I'm well protected from whatever
is out there roaming the world and from what I've seen it ain't pretty....
the decaying buildings and overgrowth of the grass making everything
look like a jungle but no humans survived this world as far as I know
and what caused this change in the world and the entire universe
is still a mystery I'm still trying to solve....
when I do go out I usually do so from the mornings around 7 o'clock and
forage through the city for food and other supplies until 5 o'clock when it
starts getting dark then I dash back to the tower and ascend to the top
to what is now my secret headquarters of sorts....
so far the beings I've seen but luckily i have been able to elude
are monstrous like beings,I'm not sure if they are mutated humans
or alien beings from another world and of the ones I've seen
are like neanderthalic beings,very powerful and huge in size,
they seem semi violent but I'm trying to stay under the radar
while out & about and I've elude them for about 9 years now,
well its getting dark out here so back up to the top of the tower
as it's nearing 6 o'clock & up the stairs i go so if any is out there
trying to survive like I am stay safe and be careful & cautious

I would eat whatever doesn't spoil and stick to vegetables and fruits,
certain can goods,water and coffee and I would go out during the day
hours between 7:00 am at daybreak to about 6 or 7:00 pm before the sun
goes down unless the sun doesn't shine because of bad weather,
the mutants are like vampires they sleep during the day and roam
during the night and that is when stay in and rest until the next day....

Doubt you can repair an entire tower, it would likely fall apart from the parts you couldn't fix and collapse, best bet is to get away from the city, underground preferrably.

I grew up on a farm and I delivered vegetables for a produce company and a few other
sorta like jobs and in other words I make up ways to find fresh food and such OK

These bloody things aren't affected by bullets, gotta hit em with somthin' big, bigger than anything I've got. If you can lead the big ones off the edge of a tall building, ya have a good chance of it dying when it hits the ground, the littler ones just cling onto the wall and climb back up. There seems to be a weak stop under the smaller one's necks, and if you can hit it just right, it'll be paralyzed for a good ten minutes.

Inspired by other comments
Day 1: I know this is not dated like the other entries in my diary, but I feel dates won't matter much anymore. From what I understand of the situation it only took mere minutes, shortly after the rain began to fall the internet and cell service was gone, just... gone. And then total chaos. Creatures unlike anything I have ever seen, they were on all fours but it was more like a man hunched over than it was a deer or wolf, I can't even begin to understand how a creature can run so fast in such a stance. The gunshots, screams and the sound of cars were gone in mere minutes, and the buildup of abandoned vehicles on the roads means no one could have gotten far. I shudder to imagine how many died in those moments. I managed to lay relatively low, I was already on my way out of town to go camping in the mountains so I have some supplies already set aside for sustaining myself and a weapon. I ditched my car, it won't do me much good with the roads the way they are. I made my way to the abandoned factory on the edge of town, it's been out of service for years now and I don't imagine many others would have had the same idea. The rain has been going for hours now but luckily the roof it still stable enough to not leak, I set up a bedroll and took inventory of my food and water. I should have enough to hold out for the week, hopefully that will be enough for the military to arrive, god forbid these things are in other places.
Day 2: I could barely sleep last night, sometime just past midnight I began to hear a sort of wail, almost like a strange mating call through the rain. Always different distances and sometimes different pitches, it was almost as if they were communicating with each other. The few times I did manage to nod off I had terrible dreams and woke shortly after. I won't lie and say I am calm, this place isn't very secure, if these things are hunting animals perhaps the rain might be helping keep me hidden. I'm glad it's still been raining as long as it has, I've laid fairly low today. I don't even want to risk looking out of a window, I've seen how much distance those things can clear in a few seconds, I need to be extra careful. I don't know if the storm is interfering with the radio as well but I have not picked up any radio signals, I have tried emergency channels and local channels all to no avail. Maybe when the rain lets up I'll have better luck, for now though I'm going to try and get proper sleep. I've moved my bedroll to a much more secluded spot between some machinery and a broken wall. Maybe the exposed piping can buy some time if I can slip through it should one get in and come after me. It should be narrow enough.
Day 3: There is no interference... by the gods I heard a message over the emergency broadcast frequency this morning. It is worldwide, whatever these things are they are everywhere. Governments, major cities, our very way of life has been wiped out. There is no one coming to save us, it's survival of the fittest now and I imagine we are not the fittest. The rain has not stopped, I have a feeling it has something to do with all of this, I'm going to avoid stepping outside unless I have no other choice. I am afraid of what might happen if this really is part of it. Luckily I am still doing good on supplies, I should be able to last a little while longer, especially if I ration and spread my meals thin. I will be weak but I will last longer, maybe it will give enough time for some of these things to maybe migrate out.
Day 5: Guns seem to at least deter them. One of them found their way into the factory and startled me. I was right about the pipes, they were just narrow enough for me to squeeze through while it was dazed. I don't think I can kill even one of them with even a shotgun. I only have a handful of spare shells anyways, I need to be careful on how I use them. I was separated from my bedroll and my supplies. No radio either, all I have left is my gun, my ammo and my knife. I have my diary tucked in my jacket pocket so I will be able to keep writing entries. I have been on the move for almost 2 days straight now, damn that thing for finding me in that factory. It seems to be the safest place... or perhaps now that one has seen me the hunt is on. If they are trying to track me down I don't imagine I will be lasting much longer.
Day 6: I know the body can last much longer without food and water than I have... but my throat is so dry. My hands are unsteady from the lack of food, I can't double back to the factory however. I've seen more of those things around there, maybe the gunshot lured them over there. If that is the case maybe I can use it to my advantage if I desperately need to get back in there. The thing that scares me most, is if it's been so quiet then surely many people must have died. There is no way everyone survived and is in hiding, if that is the case... where are the bodies. I haven't even found a speck of blood. Something deeper... more sinister is going on here.
Day 7: I... I have to drink the rain. I cannot bear another day without a drink, I can already feel the weakness from the lack of food wracking my body hard. I at least need a drink to ease my mind, let me think. I will do it once the herd moves on, so many of them are on the street right now. I was able to get a better look at one and luckily was able to keep what little nutrients are left in my stomach. They are repulsive, it's like they are made of stringy meat, they have no skin. At least not anything normal, they have digitigrade legs like a dog or something but they have normal arms. They look like they could stand up normally but instead they saunter around on all fours. If something happens to me before my next entry, just know I hopefully ended it before there was any pain.
Day 8: I partook in the rain... I filled my mouth with the succulent nectar for hours. I couldn't stop, I drank until my gut was full to bursting. I stripped and bathed in the rain, I could hear their voices sing to me. There is no more weakness, I feel more alive than I ever have in my life. I must find other survivors, they have to know the creatures are our friends. I will bring them outside and show them the sun, they will sing to me again and again. I can't even remember what came before this bliss, nor do I want to. This is the best feeling I have ever felt.
Day 9: My skin has begun to peel and reveal my inner self. Finally I shed from this ugly cocoon and sprout anew. This is the last time I feel I will be able to write in this sorry book, I will continue to dance in the rain and look for more friends. Sometimes they cry and scream and try to hit me, but as long as I don't accidentally make them fall asleep before I can get them outside of their dark and boring houses they often rejoice and join me in our dance. Sometimes though they do not wish to partake in the rain, that's okay though because my friends will huddle around them and their crying will stop soon enough. I wish that one day everyone will feel this bliss.

This ambience would be almost perfect for a series that I made where only 2 normal people left in the post-apocalyptic world try to kill the source. The world is filled with pitch dark demons and zombie-like infected civilians. Keyword: Almost perfect. I'd need something with more zombie sounds and demonic sounds, screeches, etc., etc.
One of the characters is a serious redheaded girl that just brute forces her way out of a fight with no plan or anything, but deep down, she's really...sad, for the lack of a better word. Oftentimes at night, she'll sit on the roof of their "house" and smoke a cigarette while she imagines living a normal life, because she was born (and grew up) during the post-apocalyptic years. Her parents were killed by Demons when she was a kid, so she doesn't know what it's like having parents or anything.
The other character is a boy with dark blue hair. He's kind of nervous, paranoid and anxious about living in a post-apocalyptic life, and he's really nervous about living with the redheaded girl. They're not related by blood at all, but they share the same backstory. Their parents were killed by demons (or worse), and they're the only ones that can potentially put an end to the never-ending post-apocalypse, so they go out to do just that.
The main antagonist of the series is The Goddess Of Death, Xero. She infects civilians that could still be alive and brings demons from Hell to help rule the world. If the protagonists fail to kill her, then Xero's reign over the world will be everlasting, and she could even potentially bring ruin to other worlds.

I, myself, didn't realize that's what it's from. I looked up rainy Post-Apocalyptic wallpapers when I made it, but that's really cool never knew that!
@@twistedambience7954 Just browsed on Google and I believe I found the same page you got it from, there's even the original poster for Outlast 2 without the title, not only is it a good crop but also the highest quality for the image I've ever seen, maybe it precedes the development of Timeshift, quite interesting.

Okay I literally heard this in real life today. June-22-2022
Orange County, California. As it was raining, I kept hearing what sounded like whale calls and other.. BIG and loud sounds, like groaning, crying, movement of something living. Then very clear: Whale cries from above. They faded away along with the rain. I live about 45m drive from the ocean, and I can see it from my patio. This is one of the strangest things I have ever experienced. What did I just hear?

It’s been 6 years since everyone has disappeared. As far as I know it’s only me left. Me and those monsters that appeared after everyone was gone. It’s raining again. It always seems to rain. I’m just lucky enough they don’t go into the building. They just roam the streets like stray dogs, smelling and searching. I don’t know what but they are looking. They don’t care about me. They could care less that I’m here. They are just searching for something or someone. They still scare me. Where did they come from? What are they? Where did everyone go? Is it truly just me with these monsters? Those are questions for another day. For now I just need to try to ignore the wailing creatures outside and get some sleep. Hopefully they go back to their homes and sleep as well.

I use the app Audio Evolution Mobile Studio for the audio, but use various free video maker apps to add the audio to a video. It's very limiting, but affordable for where I'm at, at this moment. There's several websites that offer free sound effects, and many that offer them cheap. You got this, I look forward to hearing what you create!

I sit on the roof, the prisoner is with me, we've decided to show her what her people have done she's already freaked out by the bombing of the Hunter Killer Drones at night, she hears the monster roars, "Oh my God, what was that...you hear that"?! I nod "Yeah I hear it and have heard it". I say "What is it"? She asks panicked "I don't know, but sure ain't friendly, one group went out to investigate, we found the parts those things were too full to eat strewn about the streets". I say, the woman puts her hands to her ears, "I can't take this, I CAN'T TAKE IT, LET ME GOO"!! I laugh "Sure love You're free to go, go ahead, become breakfast, you won't get far, tell us what parts of you you want us to send to your family, we'll try to find them". I say mockingly. "This is what your friends at the Syndicate have done, all just for their agenda, so go back, tell them what you've seen". I say "I'll make sure help is sent to you, and I'll makes sure the truth is known". The woman says, I chuckle "Yeah, you do that sweetheart". Somehow I sense she's for us now, the others agree and we release her on t.v. we see her remove her badge and yell to the Syndicate "I DON'T WORK FOR YOU NO MORE, YOU BOMB CITIES, KILL INNOCENT FAMILIES, YOU CREATE HORRIBLE MONSTERS AND SEND THEM TO MOP UP WHAT'S LEFT, YOU DISGUST ME, YOU'RE NOTHING BUT MURDERERS, COLD BLOODED MURDERERS, DERANGED MAD SCIENTISTS STRAIGHT OUT OF A SCI-FI MOVIE"!!
Oh, a new victim has arrived in this damning nightmare. You look surprised to see me.
