- Matt Goodwin an author and political commentator was invited onto GB News where he painted a picture of a hung parliament and how Reform UK voters may return to the Tories if they are offered a 'good deal' on immigration. This is actually helping Labour.

Those "commentators" have no idea just how many people hate the Tories.
People who claim to hate the Tories are going to vote for them in the next election and put them back in under Starmer.
True. They are akin to someone who goes through a half bottle of single malt daily wondering around in a blind stupur, 'explaning' while they're not an alcholic. They can't fully appreciate how drunk they are, cause they're drunk. Tory commentators now form the same paradox.
They haven’t got a clue.

He's always been very much of the right, his doctoral supervisor was Roger Eatwell. I'm surprised Kent uni allow him to remain on their teaching staff given that he's actively pushing a political narrative rather than analysing politics more generally, which is what I would expect of an academic. Mind you, he's got links to the Legatum lot, so possibly the uni gets donations from them to keep him on. That seems to be quite a common theme with populists, Johnson got a lot of money from Russia's RT to write "puff" pieces about how wonderful Russia is, when you start following the money, it's odd how it always seems to have come, by various routes, from the same place.

Well it's more "Do you despise the Tories but think Labour aren't punishing the Tories enough?". I'm a lib dem voter and I lean closer to the left
Turnout in the local elections in ENGLAND simply CANNOT be used to extrapolate the results of the UK’s upcoming General Election.
The guy making this claim is either deluded, or intellectually bankrupt.
People vote about LOCAL issues when it comes to local elections.
Most people have different priorities when it comes to NATIONAL elections.
What I noticed is a fairly standard Matt Goodwin device. He often talks about what people are telling him on the public transport - the famous ‘man on the Clapham Omnibus’. They don’t exist. No one would recognise this anonymous fascist if he was in a line-up of one, under a great big banner shouting, ‘Matt Goodwin’. His ‘people speak to me’, or, ‘I’ve made a poll’, is a rhetorical device to try and add credibility to his spurious, rancid opinions.
Exactly! The good old "everyone wants one of these" or "people can't believe how much this changed their lives" trope used by con-men and charlatans to sell crap products to gormless fools.
No one talks to anyone on public transport in London. You'd immediately be kicked off the bus/ tube and banned for life.
The only reason I can think of is that they believe that threatening right wing voters with a Labour hung parliament might get them out to vote rather than stay at home. It works both ways though.

I think your analysis is spot on.
There is so much right wing in Britain.
Hardly to believe this bird been called Britain can fly with wings on one side only.
The people must never forgive the conservatives and not allow one in to parliament
It’s because the Tories aren’t right wing enough for them. It’s the same sort of thing that’s going on with Maga
Spot on. Much like the Republican Party did in the US, the Tories constant attacks on people of different nationalities, races, genders, sexualities etc has created a monster they can’t control.
He's a Professor of Politics at Canterbury University don't you know!
I didn’t vote local because I didn’t think it served me well.
Matthew Goodwin is a shock-jock in the guise of an academic.
I popped into a conservative club yesterday to see my grandad and most of the tories in their had decided to vote elsewhere or not at all. The Tories can say whatever they want but it’s falling on deaf ears since even there own base wants to punish the party.
In Farage’s case this is quite deliberate. He hates the Tories because they not only wouldn’t listen to his “advice” but because they laughed at him (“swivel-eyed loons”, D Cameron) and he takes himself very seriously. He is firmly convinced that he is the one true “conservative” and that he should inherit the mantle of leading conservatism (if not “Conservatism”). So he’s playing the long game - destroy the Tories as they once were, leaving only a rump of the hardline right, then offer all those factions (ERG, NatCon, PopCon) the vision of a new “true” Conservative Party that will unify them, under his leadership, natch. We could call it The Reformed Conservatives Party.
Farage is a Torie he is just sitting on the fence observing what side to jump too and it will be the side that serves Farage.
Many are going to see his true colour very soon.
Farage is no hard working citizen's saviour. Grave that many buy what he is selling.
Farage has the gift of the gab will give him that and that is all he has.
We didn't vote in East Yorkshire in the local elections.
Great Clip Thank Max ❤
Tactical Voting between the Tories and Reform ? These two clown parties can´t do anything tactically.
I wouldnt mind a coalition with the greens. The greens would get more publicity and would be able to appeal to younger voters
Trouble is this bloke is so convincing....he sounds like he knows what he is talking about! GB News is awful.
The idea that people in London are talking to other people on the tube or bus is laughable.
The idea that people would be talking out loud about being a Reform supporter on the tube where you literally have to shout to be heard is ridiculous.
Deluded

Couple of things, the Green Party would never do a coalition with Labour. They have policies and some scruples. Also everybody is fed up with the Tories. Turn out will be higher, hopefully give the Conservatives a good kick in.
What methodology do GB News use for their polls?
The Tories can't even talk rubbish properly You would think they would have had enough practice by now

The right wing commentators should accept that the Conservative party belongs in the distant past, things are in a process of change, English politics needs to change into a system that recognises that all votes should count, first past the post means most of the votes cast in an election are disregarded.

Don't call it a "pact" between Reform and Tories. Call it a "stitch up" like the right wing did about any discussion of a pact between Labour & Lib Dems at the last election!
I don't think that you can underestimate the anger that the general public, more specifically the under 40s, feel towards both main parties.
Labour campaigning in Scotland is going to be a joke in itself.

Tories will win the next election - immigration will be the issue that wins it for them. Even though the Tories want mass migration to Britain to increase housing costs and reduce wages - they’ll convince the electorate that labour is soft on immigration.
This is not a good thing. The Tories are not right wing enough for them. Life would be a lot oppressive if the right of the right influenced things.

Actually what you are saying is not far off what Goodwin is saying. He doesn't think Reform supporters can be won over to the Tories either. The "grand offer" he presented as a long shot option. As for the Tories "appealing to the centre ground" it all depends what you mean by that. Personally I oppose the Rwanda policy, but opinion polls show that more voters support it than oppose it. What voters think is the centre ground may be different to what we might normally think it is.
Goodwin has argued that a catastrophic defeat for the Tories is very much on the cards. When he talks about the possibility of a hung Parliament, he is right it is possible. However I know from elsewhere he thinks it is unlikely. Predicting the next general election result is hard because of the voting system. A split right wing vote could potentially destroy the Tory party. If Nigel Farage decides to lead the Reform party, that could reduce the Tory vote to less than 20% and at that level they could get less than 50 seats. If that Tory vote goes to Reform they could get above 20% and win seats from the Tories. At the time of writing support for the political parties - excluding in Scotland - has become static, apart from between the Tories and Reform. With just 10% of the vote, the Lib Dems could win more seats than the Tories, like in the local elections.
The Tories go into the next general election as a very well funded political party. They will use that money to find dirt on the other political parties, like we saw with the Labour candidate in the Rochdale by-election. That is probably their best hope for doing "better than expected" at the next general election. I expect it will be a very dirty election with a low turnout.
Probably the result will be an anti-climax. Labour on around 420 seats, Tories on 150, Lib Dems on 30, Reform zero, Greens 1 and the rest going to Northern Ireland, SNP and PC
I loath ReformUK and all that they stand for. But I've seen polls putting them as high as 15% if they get that, but get no seats it is deeply undemocratic.
I bet you didn't complain when exactly the same thing happened to the Lib Dems.
The Tories never complained when the centre and left was split .
That's the plan. Keep the unparties in power, I thought everyone knew that.
Parties like reform are avowedly not democratic
I don't think that true democracy should cater for the opinions of people who are incapable of critical thought. I firmly believe that the right to vote should be licensed, subject to passing an aptitude test.
Oh, these people right now ar'nt doing so bad. You can't expect them to let the petty worries of simple people get in the way.
Nonsense but what is wrong with a coalition? A coalition would restrain the damage that an extreme wing can do to the country..... see The ERG etc.
Like the lib dems cushioned us from the tories? We're still waiting for the removal of student fees they promised us over a decade ago.
The Lib Dem’s never stopped the Tory right wing.
The far right has more money and would dominate a coalition.
Labour councillors are also leaving Labour every other day. Too Tory for them.
