We drove to Thingvellir National Park to a rift called Silfra which is a fissure between the North American and Eurasion tectonic plates. The water is nearly freezing, but we swam in it for an hour! Wearing drysuits for the first time was a fun experience and made the snorkel trip so much better. The water was unbelievably clear. This was definitely one of the best adventures we took in Iceland!!!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started traveling full-time January 10, 2016. While daily vlogging was not the original plan, we were having way too many cool experiences not to share every single day! Now travel vlogging is our full-time gig and we feel like we have the greatest job in the world! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

I have been showing this video to my 6th grade Social Studies classes today, as we have been learning about Plate Tectonics and Continental Drift. Kara and Nate, you now have about 90 new fans who are 11 years old! They absolutely loved it! I appreciate the fact that you made something that we are learning about in school come alive for them, in a very real way. Now I just have to figure out how to fundraise for a field trip from Indiana to Iceland...

Charles Heimberg my school recently had a trip to Iceland, i didn’t go due to other reasons but there’s companies who specialize on school trips and help with the planning and everything. Should definitely look into it. Now I’m in high school so I’m not sure if they’d offer it to middle schoolers. I’m from Indiana too :)

I snorkelled Silfra a couple of years ago, I was there in the middle of winter, there was snow everywhere and our gloves go stuck to the railing when we climbed out! Such a cool experience!

Now that was a barrel of laughs and great great water views but to outstanding things came out of it was Kara's comment my gloves are so tight I can't work my brain and the other is that you all did the best imitation of the creature from the black Lagoon a very old movie and that's the exact way that he tried to swim down into the water it was awesome thanks heaps keep them coming this is tremendous stay safe ha ha

This is absolutely beautiful And stunning! ❤️ But a little know trivia, these are not the actual plates. This is an opened up fissure that that is still technically between the two plates, but these walls themselves are not them. The plates are about 7km apart from each other with this giant gorge in between. Nevertheless, it’s still amazingly beautiful and a very “cool” experience!! 😂❤️

I have a huge fear of the water and underneath it so I would never choose to go scuba diving but I was curious about what scuba diving over the beautiful plates so thank you for showing me what it looks and feels like.

Aww I also did this snorkel in September! Maybe we were there at the same time! It was so hard to paddle in those suits..and the suits were so hard to put on, but so worth it! Just found your channel and I'm hooked. Pretty sure I'm going to eventually watch every single video :) :) I love traveling too (16 countries so far) but you guys are truly dedicated! I can't decide where I want to go next, but watching your videos should help me decide, thanks for the inspiration!

My partner and I dove Silfra in September 2018. Neither of us was dry suit certified, so we took the dry suit certification class the day before. Except from being very lucky and getting to dive in the ocean as part of our certification (normally the open water portion is in a lake), I actually think the snorkeling experience would be as great as diving the fissure. I know you are both divers (I just booked Townsville because of your videos). My point is, even if you are a diver and don't have two days to get the drysuit specialty certification or don't want to pack your gear out the 100m from the exit, don't pass up snorkeling. I think you'd find it's worth the adventure.

You know those scuba scooters you rode on in Mauritius with Blue Safari would be really handy here. For one, you'd have nothing touching the water because of the bubble around your face and two it would be much easier to stay under though you might need some kind of demister for the glass.
