Remember when Chevy tried to make a Raptor truck and ended up making the Avalanche! 😂😂😂
Andrew Walker was that what it was competing against? I just always thought Chevy was desperate and needed something new to compete against the f150 so they made the Avalanche. Huh. Well, even their Reaper isn't doing too well I hear lol.
Well the Avalanche was before the Raptor and it didn't really compete against it but it was Chevrolet's try it a lifestyle truck.
Damn that truck was butt fucking ugly lmaoo! Chevy should try again and call there truck "The Predator" to compete with "The Raptor"
clovehitch RA-RA-RA-RABBLE- RABBLE-RABBLE!! Thats what you sound like in my ear. The Avalanche didnt compete with the Raptor because it was years before. and yes i know about the butt fucking ugly Reapor. But the Avalanche and the Azteca were GMs try at Offroad lifestyle Vehicles the Caddillac Extended Truck was added on to compete in the lux segment with the infamous Blackwood.
clovehitch And it was named Avalanche for a reason.
ugh, why do I watch these things. they just make me want a Raptor so bad.
Same here, it's torture
So, did you ever buy one? :)
Look, I'm a Ram fanboy but the new raptor look sooo goooood.
dear santa
Where the hell is the other raptor fromt the thumbnail. It was heavily implied that there was going to be a side by side comparison
I wonder how many owners of these new Raptors will be rock crawling and racing these trucks at 80 mph in the desert, i would bet that 99.9% of these new Raptors will be at the mall parking lot
guy proulx I've been thinking of getting it and would take it to desert racing and challenge the shit out of it in Mexican Mountains and roads to see if it's as reliable as my 2011 F-250 Turbo Diesel 4x4.
Alfredo Villegas my guess is that the new Raptor's reliability after 3 years will be about the same as TFL's Raptor 3 year long term reliability video
It is possible to do both of those things....
That's like any truck though. I use my truck for off road maybe once a month but nothing usually too hardcore. Still nice having a good setup for when you do though.
I'll bet it will be worse. The old raptor was better designed truck for its intended purpose imo.
Great video Roman !! I like how you guys are getting more upscale with these videos ( elevation angles, speed shots, etc.)
Great stuff!! I love that truck, I just wish I could afford it..
TFL ahead of the game once again! Thanks, guys.
+Scott Ford you bet. Thanks for watching!
This was pretty cool, nice video, and I love that you guys showcase not only the new raptor, but the earlier version as well.
Nice job and great review. I may need to look into purchasing one. keep up the great work guys
Thank you for the video always good information overall looks like a good truck. Ford is really doing a good job with the off road market.
I do appreciate all the videos that you guys do. Especially the towing and IKE gauntlet videos. Keep up the good work!
+michael king Thank you!
Nice video. Love the new Raptor!!!!
Excellent video guys! I've really been wanting to see these trucks put then their paces! One of your best videos to date!
+Taco Bandit Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it
Everything about this truck is awesome Ford did a great job i do miss the v8 but that ecoboost ran the baja 1000. It is a reliable powerful engine.
Roman your having some insane life experiences with that raptor! A little jealous but glad to see you enjoy yourself
Nice feature Roman. What a cool release for the media, really well done
+Lipper Thanks! Yes, it was a cool media event.
"These guys are pretty hard to get." Man he ain't kidding. I've been on a waiting list since the first of Sept.
they should have developed a V-8 ecoboost to give this truck 600 hp and a better sound. it's a beautiful truck just missing that V-8 sound. that's why I ordered my 2017 power wagon 3 weeks ago.
Troy Huch I don't get it either, would rather have a small v8 with a turbo
yeah even a small v8 would be kickass
what don't you get about it this truck going to be a bad ass with a V8
I'm not saying it's not going to be bad ass. I would just like to see it be a really bad ass truck lol
Big Huch It's coming. Give them two years.
The video we have all been waiting for
Alan Hobson What! Michael Jackson is still alive?
These are both very sexy trucks, it's a hard choice choosing between them both.. but IDK really like the old Raptor Svt
Sounds so good!
I've had a ecobost for 5 years put an oil catch can on it and I've had zero problems a true car guy would choose power over noise any day
Geoffrey Drayer Exactly, hardcore V8 fanboys will never admit that.
Yup that's definitely one my wish list!
Liked the camera work here. I appreciate the extra effort
Thank you. Our team worked really hard.
Ford calls it rock crawling I call it my grandmas driveway
Agreed! Man Im a raptor owner and im telling you where I live this (what they call a test) is every_day_drive over here
I have taken my 1997 f150 on the same stuff crawling in Arizona. It did just fine. I currently own a 2017 raptor, would love to take it offroad in the desert. It would make the 97 look silly. I no longer live out west.
TFL first to bring 2017 Raptor Review great work keep them coming. Ford should provide you guys a long term Raptor to prove its reliability and ability against the rest of the challengers.
+thomas dickason We agree 100%
This truck look so perfect. I always wish it came with bigger tires and it does, will have to trade in my Tundra.
Hello from Puerto Rico!
What is the probability toyota make a true rival for raptor (or something like raptor shelby baja editio)?
I have a Tundra when it come out in 2007 and Im loved (sr5 5.7 sport package in here calling here La Color in red)
silver looks the best..really brings out those body lines
Please tell us more about the drivetrain. Does the Raptor have an (automatic) all-wheel-drive system with a lockable center differential? That's what the Freedom Drive I system on our 2010 Patriot has and we love it. (No true locking differential. Just what Jeep calls, Brake Lock Differentials.) To the best of your knowledge, is the Raptor the only pickup with all-wheel-drive.
I'm assuming the Raptor's standard drivetrain includes a 2-speed transfer case. (Our Patriot doesn't have that.) Please give us more details.
one question do you know when the jeep wrangler is getting the turbocharged 4 cylinder i heard that jeep said it was coming to the next wrangler but idk. p.s. still soooooo hard to choose between the raptor and jeep wrangler i guess i will just haft to buy both lol
WAKE UP CHEVY
sterling brundick lol never
they need to, i honestly have no clue why they stopped the silverado and made the colorado...
sterling brundick THEY STOPPED MAKING THE SILVERADO?!?!?!
sterling brundick they are still making the silverado, I don't know where did you came with that info .
mohammadkwt Wrong info from the space aliens.
I'm guessing you guys went to Anza Borrego. I go there to off-road all the time
What trail is this/where is this located? Would love to explore out there.
nice review. I had to laugh though Roman called the 2014 raptor an old truck. I wish I had an old truck
Fantastic!
What colour is that black raptor shadow black or magnetic????
how would this truck do in the canadian winter?
The Raptor keeps getting better and better. Too bad I can't afford a new one. Was going to buy a used one until these came out. I'd be too envious
That silver SCAB looks like my 2018, w/802 package also.
can the tires auto deflate and inflate?
What's the ground clearance on the new Raptors?
Did you guys try the paddle shifters while testing and what did you think a quality upgrade?
+Tom Taube Here you go: czcams.com/video/-SkCcSH_alI/video.html
How are you doing
Is the car available diesel engine?
The number of gasoline used in the car?
Thank you and more success
does the raptor have fog lights straight out of the factory
This is the ultimate top of the automotive truck world! The only thing i d like to have nothing else!
The black one in the video. Is it shadow black? Or magnetic black?
l-ll_ll`lGl2Y "Cheesey Burrito Black". Kinda goes with that whole Baja mexico thing.
looks badass
What is the towing capacity?
Just awesome
Roman you have a fun job! lol
I just can't get passed the sound
Yup, I'm getting one...
Anyone know the name of the sing used @3:02
Near ocotillo?
The new one looks narrower than the old one. Is that the case?
Antilag! that's awesome, I can't wait to see the tuning potential.
Will Debeljak not really! to get the extra power they had to use bigger turbos which means more lag! they dont have vgt turbos so that means the "anti lag" strategy is to inject fuel after combustion is over so the exhaust temps stap up. horrible way to do it. will be scrapping out turbos in no time.
Andy Hass thanks for the info, but I already knew what antilag was. I have a friend who is the head of VW NA pr and I spent some time with the engineers of the GRC racing team. Antilag is generally very abusive to the turbo, I was supprised to see ford implement it in a production vehicle.
Will Debeljak agreed.
turbos actually look pretty small. as mentioned in the previous video paraphrasing the engineer said it keeps them at 1/4 speed rather than full speed, which im assuming keeps the temps down, since the reduction in speed would require less volume of exhaust to go thru
Marc Monson i said bigger than the turbos used in the base 3.5l... u cant tell the difference in a few mm by looking at it... with 35in tires in sand i am sure it felt doggy, hence the antilag feature. Regardless my piint is the only way they can do the anti lag is by hurting the turbos with post injection... just ask the diesel guys how well they love post injection to raise exhaust temps to clean the dpfs... ford is betting on owners buying them and going to the mall more than offroad.
Is this ocotillo?
People need to get over it not having a V8, stop crying about it. They aren't going to change it. Besides sounds like a trophy truck to me which is awesome.
If enough buyers complain, they can actually change it. It happens plenty with automakers.
camaroman101 Yes! I totally agree. When they wanted to change the Mustang to a wrong-wheel drive V6, people were nearly rioting in the streets. Ford took notice, kept the Mustang a rear drive with a V8, then turned their other idea into the Probe. After watching a lot of videos, I respect the Ecoboost technology, but can't 'upgrade' to a V6.
So the V6 is lighter, produces more torque and more horsepower but isn't an "upgrade". People really need to get past the stigma of the V8. It's not the end all be all of engines.
Seraphim Valkyrin I must respectfully disagree. Italian super cars have their V12, Japanese AWD rally cars have their turbo 4s and American cars and trucks are known for the V8. If you use the exact same Ecoboost technology, but add 2 cylinders, it would be awesome. There is nothing more amazing sounding than a V8 with a massive cam lope, then watching the front wheels lift off of the ground by about 2 feet as it furiously flies down a drag strip.
That's the biggest problem I have with the comments about the engine. It's basically just the sound that bothers them. Now if the V6 was actually lacking in performance I could understand but everything about it is better than the V8 except the sound, which I personally like. It just sad that people automatically hate it just because of one thing that really doesn't even matter.
Like the body style of the new one but I don't have a whole one
old raptor looks meaner but I could see this growing on me in the next couple years
thats my dream car!!!!!
Raptor couldn't make it up Goldmine hill and power wagon did and all Roman could say was how wide the power wagon was. From the latest pictures side by side looks like the Raptor is just as wide if not wider. Guess I have to take in consideration the weed is legal along with the air is thin up there.
You did the The J-Turn music from Motor Trend!
+Faria Akand We only use music from the CZcams music library. The music is available for anybody.
What is the name of it? I can't find it.
It does have sweet suspension I will give it that
Ford is the American icon. Raptor is the truck.
Go on buy the new one as well, we'll all buy T Shirts to help out Ha Ha
Thanks! :)
The Fast Lane Truck I think you guys should put the new raptor and the rally fighter from local motors in a head 2 head episode. Please
Waiting for Shelby Flatplane conversion/option
Starts at 50k but the markup will be huge. Probably the cheapest you will get this out of the door after mark up and tax title license is 65k.
Nice review; but, this is nothing that the old Raptor couldn't do... for much less money. The more I see the of the new Raptor the more I am happy with my old Raptor.
Sick truck. That said, how many people are really going to fork out the cash for a new raptor and actually take it off roading enough to warrant it. Just get a standard pickup. But hey, that's me
That was a very smooth rock crawling course ! A stock 95 explorer could have easily taken that course. So it didn't really show much of it's ability :(
Jim Malone well they don't want it to break down it front of all their potential buyers
Id like to see a ZR2 Colorado vs this raptor when possible
+Cameron Reynolds ZR2 will not be available until Spring 2017 or could be middle of next year.
The red one looks the best
tour sin? i thought it was torsion ...and btw front lockers are usually a true track which dont fully lock
+phil tripe it's a Torsen front differential that can lock automatically
It's actually Torsen (no "t"), as in TORque-SENsing. Strangely enough, it actually senses speed, not torque. The correct pronunciation is torr-senn.
Sorry for the typo. Yes, it is "Torsen" differential.
BeanerMan3k That's incorrect. Look at the math that governs which side is biased and you will see speed is the input, not torque. Torsen has a white paper with this math.
+MSportsEngineering I'm going to have to side with BeanerMan3k here. From Torsen's website:
(@ torsen.com/how-it-works/ )
*How do Torsen® differentials work?*
_"It’s actually quite simple - by creating friction. Friction within the gearing is what resists wheel slip. When torque is applied to the differential, it generates thrust forces on the gears. The gears, in turn, push against the inside walls of the differential case, and that produces friction. In short, the more torque is applied, the more friction is generated, and the more resistance to wheel spin there is."_
The website with the Torsen whitepaper I found shut down earlier this year, but the old Wayback Machine has it here:
( web.archive.org/web/20070311001647/www.sonic.net/garyg/zonc/TechnicalInformation/TorsenDifferential.html )
From the above whitepaper:
_"In contrast to the limited-slip's continuous magnitude of frictional resistance to differentiation, the torque biasing characteristic of the Torsen differential provides for a maximum ratio of torque distributions between drive axles. For instance, as the amount of torque being conveyed by the Torsen differential decreases, the amount of resistance to differentiation also decreases. That is, even though the bias ratio remains relatively constant, a proportional division of a lower magnitude of torque being conveyed by the differential results in a smaller torque difference between drive axles. In braking situations where little or no torque is being conveyed by the differential, a four to one apportionment of torque between drive axles amounts to little or no torque difference between drive axles."_
...
_"Another known approach to modifying the operative connection between drive axles is to provide for resisting differentiation as a function of the speed difference between drive axles. It has long been appreciated that undesirable wheel slip is associated with very high rates of differentiation. Differentials have been designed using fluid shear friction, which respond to increased rates of differentiation by increasing fluid shear frictional resistance to differentiation. The obvious problem with such 'speed sensitive' differentials is that undesirable wheel slip has already occurred well in advance of its detection. Also, the fluid shear friction designs generally rely on the changes in fluid temperature associated with high differential shear rates to increase resistance to differentiation."_
...
_"All of the forces which are active within the differential are derivable from the torque which is being conveyed by the differential and the friction coefficients of surfaces within the differential. Therefore, all of the frictional forces which are generated within the differential, and all of the resulting resistant torques which oppose the transfer of torque between drive axles, are proportional to the torque being conveyed by the differential. Since the maximum difference in torque between drive axles which can be supported by friction is proportional to the combined torque of the drive axles, the maximum bias ratio remains constant with respect to changes in the combined drive axle torques."_
Funny this truck with the Eco-joke finished 3rd at Baja behind an Alpha Hummer H1 and 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser. lol
House of Diesel don't forget about the Tundra TRD PRO
'This route is challenging!' Right... I've had a Pontiac Grand Am up worse than that trail.
My local Ford dealer has two in stock: $83,035 and $83,430. Redic
where can I find the towing capabilities of the new Raptor?
+Guy Mooglie 8000 pounds just like the old Raptor
thanks, was hoping with all that hp and torque that the number would increase especially adding a 10 speed tranny...
The springs and shocks are some of the limiting factors for max. towing.
I bet its likely the suspension since its softer for soaking up bumps.
no way. this eats tacos. lol
God that black Raptor is fucking beautiful. If I weren't poor I'd love to have one just like that.
wow new raptor even change color.
Will y'all test the ram TRX
+Darius Hope Its just Concept truck we fear. They don't let us text trucks that may ever be built.
Ok is just a better tham
Truck
+Darius Hope We asked to test drive TRX in September, but have not heard from Ram about it yet.
Ok
If I was doing serious off-road Ing I would still want a Tacoma TRD pro
leeleelee - anyone who is into Overlanding knows it's Tacoma's, Hilux's and Land Cruisers all day. No one takes an F150 over landing. PERIOD.
John Edmonds I'll take the Raptor completely stock, except for a winch, to pull you out in your over outfitted piece of trash toyota. Stock for stock Id be very surprised if you even just kept up.
John Edmonds Yep, there's a reason Expedition Overland, the U.N and Isis prefer Toyota's, there are many places a Tacoma will go that a Raptor won't because of it's size
leeleelee has a point, besides ITS AMERICAN!! Raptors kick ass
Cameron Kinnan the American Raptor got it's ass kicked 2 years in a row in the "stock full class" at the Baja 1000 by a Tundra TRD PRO and a Land Cruiser also beat it lol
Nice truck but expensive, it's going to take me awhile to get one.
deserves a like for a sexy truck
Scraped your go pro lol
I kind of feel like trucks now days with all the electronics, take the fun out of off roading. sick truck tho
"Well I'm half the man I used to be" - New Raptor
so much tech makes the raptor a advance truck nowadays, but what's it gonna be like 10-20 years later
i think nissan did a copy of the raptor on their titan warrior
$70k!? Holy shit. It's a sexy truck but not sexy enough to break the bank
dylan ginther he gave a pretty good explanation I thought. It's not a rock crawler. He said it in the nicest way possible.
dylan ginther well even the old raptors were never cheap and if they do start at 50k and optioned out can go if u order the whole enchilada for 70k depends what you want the truck for cuz I'm sure in fuel consumption alone you would be happy in the new truck versus the old one
It starts at $50k though...
don't forget the dealers are marking up the sticker prices as well, like you are buying some kinda rare collectors ferrari FOH!!
dylan ginther
No front Locker, No winch $70k on a OFF ROAD TRUCK? What a joke!!!
Ecoboosts are awesome in my opinion. Better than a gas sipping V8 that makes less power.
Review a Mercedes G500 4x4 Squared!!
I love knowing vehicles have this kind of off road ability...but the truth is that 95% of these will NEVER see a dirt road.
Sounds like a sick Tacoma
"Old" Looks better, and then there is the V8... well...do I need to say more?
Raptor: a truck with a ton of potential but will be a mall crawler for most of its life until some kid gets his hands on it.
nah.....check out texas raptor run. people come from as far away as new york. and now, there will be a new gathering in colorado. dont believe people dont use these trucks.
I must say, that 'rock crawling' segment was pretty disappointing. From what you show in this video, I've taken my previous stock 2008 Tacoma (4cyl with 31" COOPER STT's) on terrain that is steeper and has bigger rocks. Hopefully you will get to test it in CO on trails that actually put this truck to the test.
wow 👍👍👍👍👍😍
