  • Easily replace the broken glass in your french door for $130 in 20 minutes or less.
This ended up being much easier than I anticipated. You can order a replacement glass insert for french doors from your local glass supply shop and easily remove the old glass and insert the new glass.
Big box stores like The Home Depot and Lowes did carry replacement glass.
Hope this video helps save you time and money!

I literally just sent a pebble from my weed whacker into the same french door external window. Quotes were also coming in at $450+. So glad I found this video so I can do the replacement myself following your steps. Thanks so much!

Evan - glad it was helpful! Those dreaded pebbles. I've since changed the angle in which I use my weed whacker so it doesn't flip pebbles toward the glass. ;) Live and learn I guess.

I know this was 4 years ago, but I had a couple different glass companies quote me 800-1000 bucks to replace glass on one. Home Depot ordered me one for 180 bucks with tax. I have probably another 50 bucks in supplies to install it.

Great video! You saved me $300!
I love the scotch tape tip to keep the shattered glass in tact.

Thanks, Scott. Glad you found it helpful! I couldn't help not share when I received a 3rd party quote to replace it and experienced how easy it was to replace myself.

This happened to me today. I coated it with spray adhesive, hoping to hold all of the shattered pieces in place while I remove it from the door.

Ugh, sorry to hear Tee Are. No fun. I found the tempered glass stayed together fairly well upon removal. The spray adhesive sounds like it might work very well. Let me know how it turns out and good luck!

Your video is detailed and good. My only question is how did you measure your door?

    • @stangman6580
      @stangman6580  Před 4 lety

Hi Wendy, the glass replacement dimensions come in a few standard sizes. I measured from the width and height of the glass itself and then called my local glass shop. The actual dimensions will be a bit larger since the glass extends behind the plastic trim piece shown in my video. Hope this helps!

I have the same situation you had in this video but not happy with the quotes, it seems simple enough to DIY, would you mind sharing the vendor you purchased the replacement glass from?

Hi Drew Blog, I purchased mine locally from a company in Utah called Jones Paint and Glass. Check your local window and glass supplier, it's worth checking with a few as I found prices vary.

Where did you get it from? Mine broke too and took off the glass now I’m deciding what type of glass or acrylic plastic should I replace it with...

I purchased at a local paint and glass supply store in my state. They had the best price. You could try a big box store like Home Depot or Lowes but I believe in my area they either didn't carry it or you had to special order it.
It's worth shopping around for the best price.
      Good luck with your project!

I purchased it at a local glass and window supply store. They're not a nationwide firm. I checked big box stores like Home Depot, Lowes etc. without luck. Try a local glass and windows shop. Good luck!

Hi Shelley, I was able to purchase from the following supplier. jonespg.com/ I would recommend reaching out to a local glass and window supplier to avoid having to pay any shipping. Hope this helps!
