One fun thing I used to like to do is to compare compasses in the pound shop and also to put all of the spirit levels on top of each other. I also prefer new compasses by well known brands and am prepared to pay a bit of money. I like Suunto but also I do tend to be biased towards Finnish manufacturers. You have to be able to trust your compass. Happy New year Andy.

A static charge in the plastic perhaps ? Try it at 180 degrees, or 90 ? ! ...My point is the needle it's self, can't be off. Somthing else must be contributing to this error !@@MadDogSurvival
I’ve checked it on the concrete floor, outside of my house, on the grass, and against several other known good compasses, the error is the same. The problem could be defective centre bearing mount, type of metal used for the needle, fluid grade, or just poor magnetic field. The error is true whatever the cause, my point is to choose quality kit over poor quality kit when possible. Best wishes

Unfortunately Like most products these days are either owned or produced in or by the Chinese….. without getting too political… Silva as a company still owns the rights and designs of the compasses and have recently been had their products manufactured in China but under their control…. Apparently! I personally would still rather buy a older original second hand one that I can trust! Just my opinion and based on not knowing what the new models are like. Very best wishes my friend.
