    About The Borgias:
    Oscar® winner Jeremy Irons stars in The Borgias the saga of history's most infamous crime family. Conspiring with his ruthless sons Cesare and Juan and poisonously seductive daughter Lucrezia, the charismatic Rodrigo Borgia will let nothing and no one stand in the way of his relentless quest for wealth and power. Mercilessly cruel and defiantly decadent, intimidation and murder are his weapons of choice in his scandalous ascension to the papacy in Renaissance-era Italy.

      Oh my 'lanta. The snarky conversational exchanges between Rodrigo and Cesare make me LOL! XD Just the way the lines are delivered in the scenes. Francois Arnaud and Jeremy Irons really play well off each other in scenes.

    Her second marriage did indeed have to do with Forli - indirectly. The Sforza's (remember the "bitch" at Forli?) were their enemies at this point, therefore they (the Borgias) needed allies. One way of securing allies is to have Lucrezia married off again (her first marriage was also a means of securing allies).

    it was his laugh that got me! He minded me soo much of kenneth williams from the carry on films. The tudors wasn't exactly accurate...henry's sister who married charles brandon wasn't called margaret, it was mary, and she married the old king of france not portugal (even tho the french king was shown as young) henry did have a sister called margaret but she was married to the king of scotland.

    thats the one thing that annoys me about these shows, they're never historically accurate, most people don't know the truth then they watch these shows and then think they know history. Shame aswell, I can imagine Lucrezia and Alphonso's marriage would be amusing to watch lol

  • @jellybumfruitcakes
    @jellybumfruitcakes Před 12 lety +4

    why did he say Forli? Lucrezia's second marriage didn't have anything to do with Forli...I would say who but it would be a major spoiler :-p

    Too modern words from Lucrezia. Normaly those women knew what purpose they had. And marriage into a noble family meant nothing more than a huge boost in wealth and status.

    • @joseHernandez-mg1us
      @joseHernandez-mg1us Před 3 lety +14

      Although I agree with you that it was too modern for the time I still think it makes narrative sense within the plot of the show
      During the first season Lucrezia was the way you describe, a woman who knew that her marriage was to provide political alliances and economic resources to her family and especially her father and she was perfectly fine with that and made it clear several times however, after having such bad experiences in her first marriage I think it is logical that she developed a rejection and a certain phobia of marriage and refused to marry again

      You can certainly pick apart the dialogue for ways that it sounds too modern, but the general sentiment is very true to the complaints that many Italian / European noblewomen had at Lucretia’s time. Lucretia lived in the middle of the Querelle des femmes, and discussions around gender relations, gender equality, marriage especially, and so on, was was very common and popular with aristocracy in that era.
      Women’s rights generally in Italy also varied very much from city-state to city-state - in Venice afaik, noblewomen were often shut away in monasteries for much of their lives, in others they had a lot of freedom and autonomy in basically all aspects of life. Idk to what extent the real Lucretia would have been personally familiar with “proto-feminist” / pro-woman works like De Pizan’s and Bartolomeo Goggio’s, but she certainly would have been aware of them and the general cultural debate surrounding choice in marriage.
