There are a few details missing. Under the front camera there is a rubber piece, as well as the clear plastic lens aligner piece. These need to be moved to your new screen. Pay close attention to their orientation during disassembly.
The battery connector popped when I removed the three connectors attaching the digitizer to the main body. Make sure you check it before reassembly.
The metal home button backing can be installed in the wrong orientation, I had mine spun 180 degrees and the home button press was wonky.

*******************************Make sure all screws go back to the exact holes they came from. If the 4 screws used on the plate that covers the cables are mismatched it can destroy your phone. These four screws are different by millimeters, you can't see the difference with your naked eye. ***************************************

i noticed a mistake, if you dont mind me mentioning, starts at 6:35, when reassembling and you are installing the third screw for the home button/fingerprint sensor, lcd back plate, once you tighten the third screw, the little tab beneath the 3rd screw that you tap quickly 4 times(tab, ground?) with the phillips screw driver, should be positioned on the side closest to the lcd back plate, it needs to be turned either clockwise or counter clockwise so where it is contacting the backplate mounting hole as opposed to the ribbon cable, displayed at marker time 6:46. this is a fleeting mistake that would take a very critical eye to notice if only being a first timer replacing a iphone 5s screen,
thank you for your time composing this video, many will benefit from your efforts

the trick to replacing the home button /fingerprint sensor seen at 9:30 and its cover is to move the bottom of the screen slightly to the right, then you get full access to the connector rather than through a small gap as shown here, great vid and tutorial all the same cheers fella

Just now, successfully replaced my hot Chocolate dipped 5S with a new screen(bought off Amazon for $14) without any trouble. Since the hard chocolate hardened few screws, ended up in exposing the opened phone with mild sun light as the screws are real tight. Rest is just step by step as your video. Very simple, neat and useful video. Thank you for your time in adding this video to the youtube

Thank you so much 😊🙏🙏 I watched your video twice and every step during the repair. It worked perfectly. Thanks again for posting such a useful video. I struggled in first step while removing the front cover glue was very strong then had to use hair dryer to melt the glue a bit (tip for others). My 5S looks great like new again 😄

Wow that is some fiddly work... Daughter dropped her phone and I heard that sad crystalline sound... She did make it almost 2 years before breaking it. Ordered the replacement that came with tools (good thing), watched your video twice and dug in.
The screen was cracked down to near the home button so getting the suction cup to work was a bit dicey, but I finally manged to unsnap the screen. After that it was step by step disassembly with your video. As mentioned, there is an aligner piece for the front camera. I was a bit concerned it was not lining up in the window and found the plastic ring. Getting those little screws back in those tiny holes was an exercise in patience and fear that one would launch itself "somewhere in the room". Got it. Done. Daughter is happy. Wallet is happy. Thank you SO much for making the walkthrough.

11:43 when securing screen to chassis I'd recommend not using your finger s like that, v it s easy to crack v the screen that way, once i got it secured in its slot at college the top and it looks good on sides i turn it upside down on soft cloth on hard surface then you can apply some pressure, it will be distributed evenly and but ask in one place on edge of screen , this it's the safest way I've found after doing hundreds of phones i learned this early when i go cracked a new screen like this

ATTENTION! The screws for the protective panel of the LCD flex cables MUST be of specific length. Otherwise, if you mix them up you can damage the traces on the pcb causing "the blue screen" boot loop. You can print a layout of your phone to keep track of what goes where.
There is a video called "Classic 5s long screw damage trace repair to solve blue screen of death" by iPad Rehab with more info.

If I use the front screen from another iPhone 5S, is it necessary to remove and reattach the original fingerprint sensor and other front panel components? Or can I use those components from the new front panel? It seems unnecessary to detach them if the new front panel (from another phone) has them installed.

  • @sodaska
    @sodaska Před 8 lety

One thing I would like to add, make sure to pay attention to the front face camera. The little rubber around the lens likes to come off and slide over the lens when messing with putting the speaker back on. You can look from the front through the hole where the camera see's through to make sure it's lined up properly. Had that one problem, hope it saves someone else time.
Other than that, great tutorial! Saved me over $100 sending it off to apple to do what I can do at home with a $15 kit. :D

I followed all the steps and everything works fine except the top part of my screen won't stay flat. It raises half a millimeter up, and I've taken it apart and put it back together numerous times, but it just won't stay flat. I can push down on it and it will depress. Everything still works, but I'm sure it is more susceptible to water damage the way it is now. Any suggestions?

For people having trouble with iPhone not turning on after the replacement: After attaching the new screen, I tried to power it on and it worked fine, then I started trying to fit the screen in place and did not seem to succeed, so I kept trying and decided to test it again after a while. It didn't turn on and I was very worried. Only thing I had to do to solve that was disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it again (as suggested on this topic: pt.ifixit.com/Answers/View/179573/iPhone+won%27t+turn+on+after+screen+replacement#answer185506).
