The Big Sur marathon is a one-of-a-kind race that is held on some of the most scenic stretches of road in the world. I kid you not when I say that this race is THE destination road marathon and will never cease to take your breath away.
My fiance, a handful of my good friends and I all signed up to run the 2014 Big Sur International Marathon. While it had been a few years since Kim and I ran it for our first time, our friends hadn't run it at all. Needless to say it was an incredible day for all of us!
Not only did Kim crush her marathon PR by 33 minutes (on one TOUGH road marathon course) but I surprised myself with a 20 minute course PR!
The course itself starts in the lush Northern California Redwoods for the first 6 miles or so before it breaks out of the tree cover and heads right towards the ocean. The last 20 miles are essentially cliff-hugging, ocean-view dripping steps on the edge of the earth. It is incredible.
Add the Big Sur Marathon to your bucket list. It's worth it.

This is my first video of u, shay brought me here ,, ahhh u have no idea how much u inspired me and how much i felt after this video that i must run the next marathon that will happen in my city , i've been trying to motivate my self for the past couple of weeks to start running, but it is a long way now i can go for 7miles between running and walking, but definitely will start exercise more to do the half marathon, you motivate my week thank you.. subscribe.

You captured the sheer awesome-ness of the race perfectly. So many unforgettable moments along this course. I ran the 21 miler which just meant an amazing race with no wall. The perfect distance and all the amazing scenery anyone could ever ask for

Hey Ethan! This year I embarked on the journey to out run my future father in law by finishing a half marathon. Now I am signed up for another and the Akron full marathon. Anything I should know about anything? I'm not old enough to enjoy the after parties, but whatever advice you can give me would be great!
So I have just one thought for you on these race videos... I love the reviews you do because of the comic relief you add, along with an amazingly thorough analysis. These race videos, the music ect. are a little too zen like. Doesn't really fit your style... The best part of the Big Sur one is you giving Deane a hard time and chatting with your GORGEOUS (Gingers get the ladies? First time ever???) fiance. I for one want more of you in the middle of the race saying things like, "hill was so steep, damn near ran of the road into the ocean." Anyways wouldn't critique ya if I didn't love ya (my first ginger man crush?? This is comment is getting weird!) See Ya!
I appreciate the critique. For this particular film, this camera set-up (GoPro in waterproof housing because it was supposed to rain) doesn't allow for good audio (Dean scene) so I knew I wouldn't be talking to it to give a "play-by-play". Also, I am a filmmaker and each race experience is different for me so I try to capture them differently. Full disclosure: these films are for me to look back on 10, 20 even 50 years from now and relive the beauty of my surroundings, the music I created at that time in my creative process, etc. These aren't necessarily "race reviews" or "analysis". These are not my shoe/gear reviews. I do plenty of videos where I talk too much. These are my chance to shut up and enjoy what I'm doing and where I am and attempt to convey that to the viewer.

I recently met one of the people who is on the steering committee of this race and she inspired me to visit the states and run it in the future.
