HOW MUCH I've Lost on all the FORMER SHMEEMOBILES!

- I'm exploring the values of all of my previous Shmeemobiles, then versus now! Buying used cars is now easier thanks to Carvertical reports, you can get 10% off using the discount code ‘shmee150’ here: www.carvertical.com/gb/landin...
In my life to date, I have owned 53 cars of which 17 are current Shmeemobiles, but that means I've therefore sold the other 36 and it brings an interesting question; what are each of those now worth compared to the time I sold them?
We're going to run through everything, from my 2005 Renault Clio, through to the supercars like the McLaren 12C, 650S Spider and AMG GT R Pro, via all of the other Mercedes, BMW, and other cars along the way. Ultimately the interest is to compare what they cost at list price, to what I then sold them for, and see how that stacks up against the market value at this time. To gauge approximate values, I've been browsing online marketplaces in the United Kingdom, and while some might not be wholly accurate, they will not be too far off.
A scary figure is certainly the total level of depreciation over the entire time, however that is countered by a huge number of enjoyable miles on the road, and many epic adventures, moments, and memories. However, you might be surprised by the number of cars that have in fact appreciated since sale, and by some of the figures of cars that have depreciated heavily since as well.
Thanks for watching, Tim

Always appreciate Tim's transparency of (super)car ownership. £420,000 over 18 years is a bit over £23,300 per year driving and enjoying 36 different and interesting cars. Sure £2k per month is not a small amount of money in depreciation but actually not as much as I expected owning that many cars, many of them simultaneously.
The depreciation is only a small fraction of the reel cost of having all those cars.
just a bit over 600k counting every car listed in the video. and a lot of other cost. its a lovely and obviusly not cheap game!
Don’t forget insurance ,running cost ,transport and maintenance
@@tomermahlis12 Yes, I should have specified that I was referring to depreciation only. I would have expected a much higher amount.
The funny thing is that he considers himself lucky and to have made good deals :D He is definitely not an Ed Bolian type shrewd negotiator
Hey Shmee, Really appreciate the fact that you drive your cars and push them to their limits on Autobahn runs and track days as well as give us really interesting info about the real-world ownership experience of these cars. I much prefer your attitude towards these amazing cars being used for their intended purpose rather than locked away in a garage. Keep it up!!

Absolute pleasure! Sharing the videos is the icing on the cake of experiencing these cars, thank you to you guys for being part of the journey.
Very well done, thank you for the analysis. Provide some insight into the hobby.
Ive been requesting this type of video for some time now! Thank you so much for going through some of the finances required for owning and maintaining your collection of cars! So excited to hear these figures!
Wooo! Nice idea for a vid mate
Glad you like it!
Fascinating video. I feel like over the past 1-2 years, some of your videos have been a peek behind the curtains which I have REALLY appreciated. Something that most people don't do. Giving us a balanced view of things and keep it's real so to speak. thank you.
So informative and honest. Love the content as always Tim
I love such videos! They give a quite realistic look on the market,,, would be more interesting if other car CZcamsrs started doing it just to have more comparisons
Thanks Tim! For always being one step ahead
The best way to look at it must be this. The stories, experiences, friends made along the way etc outway the 'loss', simple 🤷♂️.

I still remember your 1st video of your garage dream chase! And look how far you've gone within a few years! Gorgeous line ups! My compliments Tim! And thank you for all the transparency and honesty! Always happy to see another video of yours mate. Cheers! 🙏🏻🔥😄
Great insight Shmee massive props on all the amazing cars over the years its been brilliant seeing them on the channel 👍
Awesome video Tim. Great insight into what long term car ownership and collecting can look like.
As long as devaluation is less than CZcams revenue and the money made from merch, it‘s a path worth taking.
Kudos to you, I don’t often watch your videos but I found this one, honest, direct and transparent. Good on you and clearly you built a successful business off these cars.
I really like you doing this because im getting to know the past of the shmeemobiles and meeting some that i didn't even know even existed
I thoroughly enjoyed this. The thing is, you buy cars (and spec them) with your heart and drive them (as you should) compared to other CZcamsrs! Thats why we like you and your videos!
this is one of the reasons i love this channel, it shows supercars in their element and how they should be used, this is why i want to own them myself. Though i will admit they likely wont be around forever, i'll still enjoy them while i'll have them.
The ultra-rich aren't going away. Porsche will sell hugely expensive renewable e-fuels made in Chile to a dwindling group of combustion engine fans, and some supercar makers will survive the transition to EVs. Average car fans will be driving around in 600 hp dual-motor grocery getters.
Thanks Tim, always very informative. It would be great to hear a little more on the cost of ownership, servicing and any sizeable or unexpected repairs. Appreciate all of your content, keep up the good work.
Tim, has been awesome following you for al these years, since the R8 days. You gave me your time at the Amsterdam Int'l Autoshow in 2018 and we spent around 20 minutes in your Senna chatting about cars and life, something I remember fondly. Still the coolest guy in the business for me and was cool to sit down for 30mins watching you run through your cars. Sweet sweet memories indeed!
Thank you for giving us insight into the depreciation pain we all go through to be honest.
He has made millions off the back of them 😂
@@gav25x Understood, and the depreciation is tax deductible since he is running this channel as a business I think.

Thank you Shmee for sharing it with us. Quite a unique data this is. Want to say that sharing this kind of info with others is not easy thing to do. Best of luck in future.
One CZcams Channel I will never stop supporting and watching. Amazing content.
When you hear all the hate for ‘flippers’ of cars this puts things in perspective. I feel the Zenvo may put the Senna loss to shame some day. Its a shame the Senna had the circumstances which surrounded it, twice if you count the lockdowns, to make you not use it as much as you maybe would have done. That being said it shows how much of an amazing machine the LT is..
I would check back on this one; Zenvo have a mega future ahead with what's coming, mark my words! There's a reason I made this decision, just not necessarily everything that could/can yet be public... I've said too much!
@@Shmee150 interesting
If you’ve heard anything about the Aurora, you’d be shocked that the Zenvo may single-handedly avenge Shmee’s loss over the years
Zenvo as a company are never going to be massive, 15 cars made since 2016.
They are losing money big time.
@@WPD77
True. Also after the Top Gear ST1 debacle. I mean even the Zenvo had to go back to the factory "for some small adjustments" or whatever he called it. Seems like they are far away from becoming the next Pagani.
Love transparent videos, showing the real side to owning these cars
This was my first Shmee video after having heard the name for about 4 years or so. Seems like a proper nice chap, and what a lovely car collection to boot.
That was interesting to know, I loved all of this! Thank you Shmee150 and all the team! ❤
Shmee, loved the video. As a former car expert/salesman, it was a pleasure gaining this knowledge about (your) cars. Keep up the content ❤
Tim, great video and love the honesty. Is that loss a tax write-off because the cars are the business? Something I’ve always wondered.
Yes I think they are classified as business assets
Absolutely, these cars are a business expense for him so everything pertaining to them (depreciation, maintenance, insurance, registration, etc) is a write off. Also, the miles driven should be able to be deducted to as they are primarily used to make money for his business, so don’t get your violin 🎻 out for Tim just yet
The UK taxation system allows you to expense a portion of business use, but every one is in my private name and not any company for any kind of unusual tax business.
@@jameswillard1can you explain how a write of works? At least in USA? I am from and am interested to know
@@peash2097 If you buy a car for $100 and sell it for $250, the gain ($150) is in most countries subject to some sort of tax, generally called capital gains tax. If you gave a second car that you bought also for $100 and you sell it for $90, in most countries your loss ($10) can be offset against the gains you made on the first car. Your total gain across both sales is $140 ($150 less $10), and your tax is calculated on that amount. Obviously in the real world things are more complicated than that, but you get the idea. Note this is different from a salary, where generally if you earn $100 of salary you pay tax on that $100 even if you then spend most of it on food, lodging, etc. - with some important exceptions that vary wildly by country you generally can't deduct your living expenses from your salary for tax purposes.
Wow that was amazing video, I just love that you are not afraid to talk about money and finances that come with such cars
Tim, what an amazingly candid and honest video that I would never expect anyone to make. No matter what a person can afford to collect, there is risk in the cost and future value so you just have to love what you are collecting and enjoy it as you have! CHeeers!
Making content and getting to drive epic cars, adventuring on rally’s is about as good as it gets. You have created the Shmee150 empire and are fortunate enough to have an HQ, staff to assist and the ability to share your journey with the rest of us. Thanks Tim👍
Hi Shmee I'm guys! This is gonna be a good one. Love to hear about the numbers behind the scenes.
Hope this one is really interesting
What a great video for all of us who fantasize about ownership and the driving experience. You can't put a price on your memories and enjoyment, so your losses weren't so bad. Next, add in all the maintenance costs associated with these driving works of art. Living in a very small town in the mountains of Oregon I don't get to see many supercars, but in November I will be visiting London for my 60th birthday. And I will be doing a lot of car spotting. Maybe I'll even see you driving by.
Tim, those numbers are frighting for me! So glad you share them with everyone! Enjoy!
I imagine the bath you’re going to take on the Zenvo will eclipse anything else you’ve sold.
Half a mil for sure
Love your enthusiasm. Surprised you don't wait until a model is 4 or 5 years old before buying. You could save yourself hundreds of thousands and still have as much enjoyment.
If it was just for fun, that would make sense. But Tim has to have content for CZcams too so perhaps buying them new is better for views? Honestly idk but as long as you're having fun it doesn't matter
@@firewaffle1"My second-hand Senna has joined the collection!!" 4 years later is obviously going to have far fewer views.
What a great (and interesting) thing to do Tim and thanks for the honesty.
Some truly enormous figures even for a numbers wizard like yourself.
I guess even knowing what happens to most car values, especially from new, my take away from this video is summarised with one word...WOW!
Even if I'd had the cash to go out and change my 2008 car, I would have held off because to me the era of the artificially inflated new and used prices had to come back down by some realistic margin, so when I saw a video strongly suggesting by the end of this year (2023) we will probably see a significant if not huge drop in the aforementioned prices, i formed a cautious smile. I'm just hoping that my car does me proud and lasts for as long as needs be now. Take care.
Another great video! Very interesting and informative.
I hope you make a good living from CZcams! As a self employed person as you are, I am confident, based on the amount of content produced, that you spend an incredible amount of time and energy entertaining us followers. I would be interested in seeing a day in the life of Tim. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the incredibly kind words
Hi Tim, I know that end number was shocking but you have to remember all those cars you had have had a good life and have been meant to be driven. You hold many amazing memories with each car and I can’t wait for what you have in store with your current cars 👍
Tim, I've been watching your videos for a very long time but I have to apologize I didn't know I wasn't subscribed! I loved this upload, thanks!
The G-Wagon is always worth its money ! Doesn’t matter if new or and old modell … also the „Wolf“ Modell from the Bundeswehr are quite pricy
LOVED THIS VIDEO. We need detail like this so badly in the space. EDIT: OUCH THAT SENNA ONE IS CRAZY. I need to stick to my Pista/812/Urus dreams and not ever get into Mclaren lol.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the senna goes up alot in the future though!
@homsey it will for sure go up in a few years.

Fair play to you man - your honesty is quite humbling: quite rare to see these days, especially on CZcams. On a positive note? My god.........to be in a position to say you've not just driven, but OWNED all those cars? As the ad says........ Priceless! Much respect my man.
Brilliant and very interesting video Tim thanks for sharing and the detail and the honesty. Huge factors in why we subscribe to you and will continue to.
Basically 98% of cars are not investments. It’s transportation A-B. Depreciating assets . So he lost around $1 million US 💵 !! On depreciation and not even including financing fees, insurance, maintenance, gas, storage , etc… Sponsors and a rich family does help 👍🏼
Can’t wait to see you back in the US Shmee!
Not long until Car Week!
Fascinating and I always love Tim’s honesty and openness
A positive review of your own losses is great! Best video on this channel! Nice job, keep going!
The one former car of yours that I think should still be in the garage is actually the classic mini!
That was a gorgeous spec and it would nicely balance the garage in my weird way of thinking 😏
I would love to buy another one someday
Very entertaining video.
Need more of them,
Maybe With running/mod costs and things like such.
Because nearly every video on CZcams is made to look like all is fantastic with superstars, and it’s all nice and dandy.
This video is like a breath of fresh air and at the same time shows that things are not always so rosy :)
But main thing you don’t have garage queens, you enjoy all cars to the fullest.
Hats off to you Sir 🤙
Brilliant. Appreciate your honesty and open approach to this issue. It's a great insight into the truth behind performance car ownership.
Factor in service, warranty, tyres, brakes etc etc and it's one hefty bill over the 18 years.

Hi Tim thanks for sharing the numbers whilst being in some cases quite eye watering you can always replace money, cars, etc you can never replace the time spent doing something you love and in hopefully a long time in the future when your looking back at your life it won't be the money it will be all the great time that you remember was it Charles Rolls who said the quality last so much longer than the price thanks for taking us all on your journey

Great video Tim, moving up to much higher value cars will have a knock on effect with resale. The AMG mercs really surprisingly drop a lot, maybe a better second hand car. I remember losing 55k on my new SL55 and they are so cheap now!
Made back all the loses on CZcams ad revenues. The main thing is we can all feel the passion he has for cars and he buys with his heart not with his head. I appreciate that and I’ve been following the channel on and off for many years.
V impressed how honest you've been Tim.
You have one of the best collections when it comes to "maintenance" . Most if not all in Tip Top shape with full fuel.
Love Love Love this video! So transparent. Thank you 🙏 Shmee150
Very candid and thanks. Not many car guys would lay it all out in such detail. Now in my case, I bought a Porsche 550RS Spyder complete but in rough shape for $40,000 in 1986. I spent about $65,000 restoring it to perfection, and it really was perfect with original engine and transmission, when I finished. That was about 1998, and collector car prices were down compared to earlier years. In 2000, I foolishly sold it into a down market for $275,000. In 2018, my car was sold by its then owner at auction at Monterey, for $4.5M. This sometimes keeps me up at night, but like you I am philosophical. I had fun with it.
This was very interesting video Tim. I’m glad you shared your experience with buying and selling. Mercedes, BMW and especially Aston Martin have heavy depreciation. Your Ford GT if you decide to sell will recoup most of your losses over the years🤔 I really like the new DB12. Saw one at Scottsdale Aston dealership was on display. However will wait at least a year after they are released before purchasing. I’m waiting now for Chevrolet dealer to submit for my 2024 Eray to Chevrolet . As always your the best when it comes to cars. Always look forward for your new video.👍
Fascinating video Tim, Thank you.
675LT Coupe will always hold a place in our hearts! an amazing car!
enthralling. great anticipation of the viewer's curiousity
I missed this video when you posted it somehow. It’s really interesting all the information going all the way back to the beginning. I really think you have made out well considering the use and enjoyment you have gained from all of these cars. I didn’t realize how many awesome cars you had the pleasure of experiencing. I was taken aback hearing how short a stint you have had with some of your cars. Considering all the great cars you have had the pleasure of owning/driving/living with. The main thing I see missing through all of this is the actual use value of the use you have had and how you have been able to share with all of your fans/followers. The thing I started thinking about as you went through the stats of each of the great cars was I wish I would have been able to be the one buying the ones you traded on. One thing I kept waiting to hear was the status of the McLaren Senna. I thought you had sold it already, I don’t think I would be able to part with it, that would be really hard for me. Hypercars are not that easy to acquire and I would think they would be keepers. I believe it would be best to make more content with it, and see how the value would change over time. Right now it seems as though the market is down on most everything. It doesn’t seem to be a time to sell most luxury goods. Just a thought, you seem to be doing pretty well on your own.
As much as I am proud of how far Tim has come I can't help but say that I miss the old days where the cars were stored in some run-down parking garage and he was constantly shuttling between London and Germany. Ah, good times.....
Nice video Tim! Thankyou😊👍🏻👍🏻
Shmee the joy on your face when you drive your cars is priceless.
Very interesting! Thank you, Shmee
Enthralling video Tim. A particularly favourite of mine, the Heritage Edition RS is probably one of your best buys, surely doubling in price.
