G.I. Joe from the 60's were regular soldiers but the 80's brought military misfits with paramilitary like garments, swords and accessories regular soldiers did not own. That was the magic of the ARAH series, which history will ever remember as the most successful toy line for boys ever created. Thanks for the informative video.

Superb Tony! As a kid I grew up about a half hour from the original factory. The originals were out of production, but my Mom would find outfits for me, and she also had some of the original catalogs, and I would piece together full sets of kit from yard sale finds. When the 3 3/4" toys came out, I was all over it, and I believe I had every one of the initial line, at least the figures. Those were the days when some dirt, a set of Lincoln Logs and imagination could fuel a days worth of battles.

I remember collecting G.I. Joes in the 1980s, from the first ones released in 1982 to the Serpentor/Cobra-La line. That's when everything took a nose dive. The figures got so fantastical and unrealistic (not to mention colorful) that we could no longer relate to the toys anymore. I think the initial success of the range was due to it being grounded in reality. Even early Cobra was not such a far-fetched concept, especially how they handled it in the comics. One thing that amazes me to this day is how much effort they put into the figures and vehicles. They weren't lazy about it or cut corners. I remember lots of detail on the vehicles. That's pretty damn impressive.

We had these when I was very young. When I got a little older I became obsessed with them but they were no longer in stores, so the internet was still new along with eBay and my mom used to buy them still in the package or in lots from Kualalampur, malayasia. They had almost every toy still sealed, was a great childhood memory

More so then star wars and transformers. Edit: I've just spent a small fortune on ebay rebuying my childhood!! 😁 I'm blaiming you.

Excellent video Tony! Sadly, I purged my Joe collection a few years ago. After watching your video and some of Michael Mercy's videos, I have started the daunting task of rebuilding the collection. I just turned 50 last month, so I suppose I wanted to recapture some things from my younger years. I still have a modest vintage Star Wars collection, but GI Joe was always my second favorite toy line.
I stopped by a local comic shop and started with a couple of the more modern 25th anniversary Joes that were still MOC. I scored Tripwire and an Arctic Snake Eyes. I am eyeing a loose vintage Blizzard who looks complete as well as an unopened Badger. Thank you for reigniting the flame of nostalgia that I had for this property. I am certainly a fan now.

Great video, Mr. Tony! Appreciate it.
The 1980s G. I. Joe: A Real American Hero was the lineup that I grew up with/ it reflected the era of then US President Ronald Reagan and the renewed sense of patriotism in the United States.
The enhanced articulation gave G. I. Joe an edge over Kenner's Star Wars, and it still retained ties to the 1960s by having the original G. I. Joe return in G. I. Joe #86, and, later in #152, revealed that the 1960s G. I. Joe Team was activated by President John F. Kennedy.
The G. I. Joe cartoon and live action movies could've been better had it been presented more seriously, like the Japanese anime Macross, Space Battleship Yamato, and Thunderbirds 2086. Perhaps Hasbro should have Marvel/Disney involved in the third movie.

Still looking forward to information about BULLETMAN and hoping you will consider a special video. I've always been curious about the unique head sculpt design and if it was based on any actor and anything else that is interesting about the design and the chrome application of the figure. BULLETMAN,Atomic Man: Mike Powers and Intruder were my first GI Joe figures and still fascinated by them today.
Also hoping you will be able to discuss the 1990's 1:6 scale GI Joe and Action Man relaunch and all the other copycat lines like 21st Century Toys.
