At the start of this past week, we said goodbye to the Tetzlaff mountain house and hopped in our tiny Ford Transit Connect to begin our one-year road trip around the States. To escape the blazing summer heat of the South, we headed north for the mountains, zigzagging in between the Tennessee and North Carolina border. The first few nights were everything we hoped and imagined for, and although we downsized dramatically, we think we got accustomed to the small space rather quickly. There’s something about waking up in a new location that positively outweighs the fact that we haven’t showered in 5 days. Anyways, enjoy our first road trip vlog of many, and thank you so much fo following along!

Oh wow. I love the editing, photos were amazing in what was being captured. The story leads me to want to see more. Beautiful shots. Its amazing what you have done in less than a week. Yum Yum the food makes me hungry. I can see, taste, smell and feel your journey in the van.

Omg I went to that same place in the smokies last year when I was in Bryson city. I was fostering a good boy, Duke, and he got scared of the chickens we saw lol!
Ahahah yes, chickens can be very intimidating to good boys. Loved both the Smokies and Bryson City-- would definitely go back!

Cooking in the van is certainly more of a challenge than in a home kitchen. But every meal is SO rewarding when it’s finally complete. I personally enjoy the little challenge haha! Thank you for watching, Victoria!
First I have t say "Congratulations!, and I wish you two the Very Best! The Van looks Great! Napping is Awesome! I am a firm believer in naps. So Chad, was the van unlocked when you ran back? I can't say how many times I have had to go back to double check something...it's not paranoia when the world really is out to get you LOL. Claire, good footwear is so important for safety. I am typically a leather boots kind of guy but I have an older pair of Teva sandals that for an easy to medium shorter hike they are great. Gives the foot a little protection on top from brambles with really good soles. I washed them weekly in the washing machine when I first got them and they kind started falling apart because there was cardboard stiffeners in it. Once I reglued it with industrial epoxy they are great, dry fast and are good when I wanna splash a little in the water lol. I am still a little kid inside lol. That mountain Top, was beautiful, the little fog in the background...too bad you couldn't just drive up and camp there for the night. I know it is kind of a crazy thought but I heard in a forum that Quiggley has converted a transit connect to 4x4 for around 13k... could you imagine
Your comments are always the best! Yes, we’ve been taking so many naps in the van- it’s very “necessary” haha. And the van was NOT locked, so sprinting back was indeed a good move. Claire just got a fresh pair of Tevas, so it sounds like guys will be matching kicks. Claire is also known for repairing the soles of shoes with hot glue, until the hot glue is so thick, it creates a heel. We don’t advise anyone to do that haha.
