In reality, there are only very few instances when you would choose to exercise early. Probably 99% of the time they are effectively the same.

I have learned (or I think I have learned) that options traders make money by trading just the options, and rarely do they actually exercise the right of buying the underlying stock. Can you make money from an expired contract that didn't expire worthless? without buying the underlying stock? Please enlighten, and thanks again!
+Met V. Typically, you can just sell your option prior to expiration at the current market price rather than exercise. I've always done this when I trade options.

What is the range on strike price and how does this effect the total profit? I'm confused
