    Great, as always. I do think, however, that the prices are getting out of hand. One of the downsides is that so many p&s cameras rarely can be repaired and that they therefore should (with a few exceptions) be fairly cheap. I bought a Minolta TC-1 for 250 bucks last year and I now see some people hoping for a 1000 on Ebay. Insane, considering that it could stop working forever tomorrow.

      I have to agree there,there's no reason for them to be bringing such ridiculously high prices like they are...the Olympus MJU is another example..going for prices way beyond what they're worth...if people just stopped and thought for a moment and did a little research they'd be buying Nikon F2's and F3's and other higher end models..and the same with Canon's as well...and they'd have great cameras that would last them for years with a little care.

      Excellent point. I picked up a T4 a few years ago on CL. Turned out that the flash didn't work. I have no idea how to repair that!

    I have both the Olympus Infinity Stylus Zoom 120 and 140. The former was a family hand-me-down, the latter was rescued from a thrift store. Despite their inherent limitations, they've served me well and given me images worthy of display at a recent exhibition. In the past I had the Infinity Zoom 2000, which was a great camera to use.
    Thanks for sharing this video on the point and shoot cameras.

    I prefer the images shot with the Olympus. The color & sharpness & contrast looked better to me. The Zuiko lenses are excellent on Olympus cameras. The Oly seemed to have much better color and B&W images in my opinion.

    Great Review. THank you for this... I think you are the first to actually do a video review of both of these cameras which are so often compared to one another. I have both cameras as well and they each have their strengths and differences. One thing I can say for sure about the Stylus Epic is that it is FLASH HAPPY. Even in bright daylight the flash has fired for me at times! It's also definitely a bit faster in operation than the T4, but also doesn't have the zeiss lens or infinity mode. I think it boils down to personal preference and budget you really can't go wrong with either one. Thanks again. I really enjoy your thorough reviews.

    I found an Olympus mju ii f.2.8 35mm lens camera in my local camera store for £25. Doesn't say Stylus Epic tho. What is the difference?? I snapped it up straight away. I couldn't believe it as I had been wanting one of these but they were far too expensive on ebay.

  • @eustacequinlank7418
    @eustacequinlank7418 Před 6 lety +1

    Prices are absurd now. 200+ is the average for a Mju II. I already have one (given to me by a neighbour who now prefers her iPhone no less, I had no idea about them before that). They are good and really handy when you don't want to carry an SLR like the F100 etc I've managed many a sneaky street shot and the rest, but they aren't *that* good.
    I'm not going to list any overlooked compact cameras that I own and think are just as good, because I'm tired of the prices inflating all the time due to faddism (as if anyone would pay attention to my opinion anyway). People who seriously want a compact for under 50 and genuinely love film outside of it being niche, they are out there, do your research. The Mju's just get all the hype.
    A Contax T2 would still be nice though, that is a camera that almost deserves the price it goes for.

    I had an Olympus Stylus Infinity for years until it broke and I replaced it withthe Yashica T4. Loved them both. I think that the Yashica had sharper images and I still shoot with it occassionaly. You didn't mention it on the T4, but I've also used the tiny waist level finder on it for discreet street photography.

    • @alozor13
      @alozor13 Před 7 lety +1

      qnetx the super scope (waist level viewfinder) is on the T4 super aka T5 (and also T3) not on the regular T4 in this video

  • @joshowen9054
    @joshowen9054 Před 5 lety

    The Stylus Epic is just another hype boosted by various photography blogs who modify heavily the results with Adobe Lightroom. I shoot dozens on rolls with this camera and it's really nothing impressive about it. Back then it was a handy light weight camera, but at no moment it can be considered worth shooting 35mm film with it these days, unless one is scanning and adjusting the pictures with some software. But then it's no longer a 'film' picture. An inexpensive SLR setup gets much better image quality directly on the paper print

  • @attilapapp7536
    @attilapapp7536 Před 7 lety +1

    Excellent review, thank you very much! In some reason I like the picture sharpness of the Oly better than the T4. It would be also easier to compare them if the same scene would have been shot with both of the cameras and the pictures would be side by side. :)

  • @teleaddict23
    @teleaddict23 Před 7 lety +5

    I've had one of these for about a week now and I have to say, it's not for me. It feels too flimsy and plasticee, a typical 1990s fully auto camera. It may be because it's a bit too easy to use, takes the fun out of it. You just take it out and shoot, comparable to taking out your phone and taking a photo. I shoot film because it's different to that. I think I will stick with my classic Canon AE1 Program. It looks and feels solid and, altho it isn't so convenient, it is much more enjoyable to use.

    • @eustacequinlank7418
      @eustacequinlank7418 Před 6 lety +2

      "comparable to taking out your phone and taking a photo"
      I suspect this is exactly why they are popular with a certain generation. They like the idea of using film for some kind of 'cred', but don't really want to learn how to use a SLR manually more than likely coming from their smartphone where all that happens is pushing a button. I really like the Mju I and II, they are palm sized and sharp, far from flimsy to me, quite solid infact. They let me get shots in public spaces that I otherwise wouldn't be able to, but I think they are overvalued and the prices are out of control.

    Can't speak for the T4, but the epic is a great P&S camera. Only problem (besides the annoying default flash on) is the build quality. I've had a total of 3 of the epics and 2 of them had a light leak where light gets in around the outside of the lens barrel and leaves a very distinctive shape on the negatives.
    I finally got fed up with them and now use a Contax T2 for my compact camera.

    • @borderlands6606
      @borderlands6606 Před 7 lety

      I agree. If you use the Olympus as a primary shooter you'll be buying them on a regular basis. They're a nice design, good lens, but build quality and internals are definitely consumer grade. Shame because it's nearly a great camera.

    Hi! thank you for another great video! Did you notice you have a horizontal line in the Oly EPIC photo of the baby taking a bath (expired 400tx)? The line is around 1/3 height from the bottom. This happens a lot with the EPIC and is really a major defect, this is caused by those rollers in the back door scratching the film! I had this problem multiple times with different olympus EPIC and just couldn't use it anymore...let me know what you see...cheers!

    Hey Travis I want to ask you a question. Do you know of any methods of getting rid of awful cigarette smoke on cameras and camera bags? I recently got a good eBay deal for a Minolta SRT MC II camera bundle for $45. I opened the package today and it felt awful to notice the heavy stench of cigarette smoke. It made me gag so much. I tried using Clorox wipes that were citrus scented but to no avail. I got this for a high school friend who's graduating soon and I don't want to give something to someone that reeks the stench of smoke. Any response would be helpful, thanks.

    I liked the T4 but found that I'd been holding it wrong. My finger was apprently too close to the lens so I got an ugly vignette on a lot of photos. Also, the lens tended to get stuck sometimes, but a quick on/off solved that. Overall great camera. Using a Stylus Epic now though.
