  • Columnist, podcaster, and political advisor Dan Senor, the author of the recent book, The Genius of Israel, interviews Dr. Robert Satloff, the recipient of the 2023 Washington Institute for Near East Policy Scholar-Statesman Award, at a gala event in New York City on November 16, 2023.
Nearly 400 well-wishers packed the Plaza ballroom to honor Dr. Satloff in recognition of his thirty years at the helm of the organization. Dr. Satloff, the Institute’s Segal Executive Director and Howard P. Berkowitz Chair in U.S. Middle East Policy, joins a list of eminent Scholar-Statesman recipients that includes U.S. President Bill Clinton, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, and King Abdullah II ibn Hussein of Jordan.
The Scholar-Statesman Award was established in 2007 to celebrate outstanding leaders who, through their public service and professional achievements, exemplify the idea that sound scholarship and a discerning knowledge of history are essential to wise and effective policy and the advancement of peace and security in the Middle East.
During his conversation with Mr. Senor, Dr. Satloff discussed the current Hamas-Israel War, his research on the Holocaust in the Arab world, and the future of Middle East policy, among other topics. He asserted that the Institute’s work will be particularly important in the coming years to respond to a growing bipartisan push in Washington for the United States to disengage from the Middle East.
