  • 😵Next up in the anatomy of a submission series is the classic arm bar.
💪🏼 The primary target of the arm bar is the direct attack to the humeroulnar elbow joint where the humerus meets the ulna bone.
🧠 The hyperextended elbow has a bony block, so the initial attack will pressure the joint surface and cartilage, causing the initial pain. Further extension will stress the collateral ligaments on either side and the joint capsule over the front of the elbow.
🦴 Significant damage to the ligaments will then lead to dislocation. Depending on the joint laxity and angle of the submission, fracture to the point of ulna bone can also occur.
📖Anatomy of a Submission series: Helping grapplers attack, defend, and understand their injuries. Because anatomical knowledge is power in the submission game.
