  • Strap in, folks, because today I'm dumping everything that lives in my brain onto the internet for my closest friends to pick through. I have SO many projects going on right now that I'm struggling to keep them all organized, and I absolutely can't focus on just one. From home improvement (or I guess workshop improvement), to sewing, to trying not to thrift EVEN more fabrics, I've got a lot going on right now.
    I hope you find some sort of comfort in knowing that, if you're feeling overwhelmed and disorganized, you're definitely not alone.

    Pirate shirt sounds like fun. Maybe with a waistcoat out of the rust material. Dyeing the possibly-silk fabric sounds interesting.
    Rip stop: rain poncho, backpack, hammock chair, change room curtain, dog raincoat, belt pouch, dust cover for equipment, mod waterproof frock coat, hiking gaiters, perfect parachute pants…
    Moving the bench ideas: working bee with BBQ reward, board or planks under wheels, rent equipment like pallet jack or genie lift, continuous log roll like pyramid builders, partial or full disassembly, levosia (?) levitation spell, fairy dust…

      LEVITATION!!! I love it!!!
      You have a ton of great ideas for the rip stop...the doggie raincoat didn't even cross my mind but could be perfect!!

    I had so much fabric I was buried in it. I did the "does this spark joy" with all of it, and git it down to three totes from mmmm maybe fifteen. I donated the purged fabric it to a local church. Since then I have purchased some but have walked away from much more. It's hard to say no to fabric! Very very hard. I think everyone has a point where they look at their stash and say holy shit I gotta stop....or not LOL

      I'm always a little reluctant to dive into the "does this spark joy" part of cleaning my craft supplies because some fabrics don't make me super happy...yet. But I know that as soon as I get rid of them, the perfect project will come along and I'll regret getting rid of it. But if I don't go into stores, it gets much more difficult to impulse buy. So I stay at home...like a hermit!

    😂 This is just like me listening to myself listing things "past Kathryn" has left me to do, which includes reupholstering the arms on a sofa I shortened but then was good enough to sit on so I moved on. Happily, none of these jobs is going to leave me boiling or freezing to death. 😮
    Eventually, I get angry with myself and do a whole bunch of stuff at once.

    Katie, that mural is so awesome! I am really good at getting stuff but then not doing anything with it, or starting a project and not finishing it. I am currently knitting beanies, 3-day projects that I can and will finish, and give away to charity shops. At least that keeps my hands busy and me feeling I’m doing something useful while watching CZcams or listening to a book. Cheers from New Zealand.

      If I'm at all overwhelmed in any other aspect of my life, I'm not getting any projects done. So like you, I try to keep some small things around to do while watching tv or just relaxing. And the more I keep my hands busy, the less I can look at my phone or try to answer work emails. It's definitely an area I'm trying to improve on!

    as someone who has wrestled a lot of very very heavy things up into the bed of a truck and back out again without any ramps- that looks sturdy. which is a good thing. if you're not into awkwardly walking it, moving one side three steps and then the other side three steps over and over and then laying it on its side to roll it up that twelve inches just so you can do it alone then those moving straps, like ratchet straps that go under the furniture and then up to your shoulders? those are awesome. and can definitely get you that height. just tweak them for yours and your partners difference in height, and be willing to take breaks.

    I love all the stuff you have said you want to do. I understand completely the overwhelmed feeling. With your list, just write it all down, don't worry about the order, costs, help needs etc. Just get it down, then prioritize it into steps. (for example, you said you need to get the shutters hung then you can bring out that bookcase so shutters would be higher on the list than bookcase. Also, leave some room on the list (skip lines, whatever) so that when you realize (inevitably you will) a step you forgot, you can write it. (then cross it off because that feels good). Now, I'm off to start my list and I'm going to take my own advice. Thanks for all your hard work.

      Oh, btw, I didn't take my own advice, rather I was looking at all your videos and kept saying, "Hey, this looks neat." -watch said video- and "Why didn't I get this in my feed youtube?" So I'm catching up on everything I missed. (Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this.) I really enjoy your sense of humor. I need to develop a "just get the thing started (done)" attitude. All fun. Thanks.

    the overwhelm is real! I have a todo list and I am only allowed to listen to my favourite podcast when I am doing something on the list- ADHD things xx

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Same! If I have the TV on, I'll eventually just slow to a stop and watch whatever is on, even if I've seen it a million times. It's gotta be podcasts or some really good music if I'm going to focus on anything!

    I am currently on some free time from work and actully put my flat a bit to right . . . and while I do like to decorate I am not a great furniture mover, but I did moved quite a lot in the past week, wich was not that easy in my tiny flat and I am very happy with the results so far . . . It was quite a bit like a game of tetris . . . but with furniture 🙃. . . so, I do understand that feeling of to much . . . I did a little bit at the time every day, sometime just 30 minutes, but they do add up eventuly and now I am nearly finished, so that would prbably be my tip, a little bit at the time and be happy about the change so far . . . .👌☺😉

    Just stumbled across your channel. Love it! Totally got the one about knowing what your style is. I’m 58 and still struggle with what my style is.
    My reason for comment, as I’m watching this vid I’ve gone to Google Indian block print. And as I’m scrolling through patterns. At the exact moment you show the peach panther side of your quilt, I’m looking at that design on a webpage 🤣🤣 had to pause you an go back to check. Talk about coincidence! 😂

    I would check with Home Depot or Lowes to see if they have ramp rentals if you don’t want to buy one. They rent out all kinds of tools and stuff for home improvement!

    oh no, good luck! I am rotating between a couple of projects myself right now...and procrastinating other chores for as long as possible...I tend to go for whatever is closest to finished, unless I have a strong urge to work on something else. But that's probably not a great approach as I always have something left incomplete. :)

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I feel like my urge to start new shiny things always overpowers the need to finish projects that are mostly done, but that's what I need to work on! It also helps to embrace the **GOOD ENOUGH** mindset so I don't hyperfocus on details that ultimately don't make any difference to anything.

    • @Stormy38044
      @Stormy38044 Před 11 měsíci

      @@KatieMakesStuff i understand that very much 😂 i actually made it a resolution this year to finish things I start. Perfect is definitely the enemy of good +done - I know sometimes I find it hard to distinguish 'pushing myself to grow with effort +technique' and "am i in fussy perfectionist mode?" Bleh. The hyperfocus is real! Wishing you lots of luck with project mountain :)

    I have a big fabric collection but i make hospice quilts. Currently, I'm over buying yarn and in crochet cardigans mode. Seems i can't control myself. So I can relate. I have the added burden of no space which makes my brain hurt. I see no way out in this economy but know something will change. Im pretty sure all these scenarios are called life.

    • @indiabilly
      @indiabilly Před 11 měsíci +1

      I used to make quilts until I realised I don’t like cutting the fabric, piecing the fabric, quilting the fabric or binding it, I do love the finished results though xx

      It's amazing how creative your brain gets about storage when you want to collect things but have no space. The opposite end is how overwhelming it can be before finding those creative storage spots.
