Sad to see the state of my home town. Used to be a fab place growing up in the 60's and 70's

Accrington gas gone down hill in recent years, but it used to be the place to go for the market, a night out and lovely green spaces

Hi Mark 👋 did you know that the town is famous for producing the hardest densest building bricks in the world , they were used in the construction of the Empire State Building and the foundations of Blackpool tower!
Thanks for the video amigo 👍

Accringtonians realise our town is run down and seen better days for sure, but there is a lot of investment coming into the town centre at the moment with some major contracts due to start to transform parts of the centre, certainly there have been major mistakes such as moving the old bus station, pedestrianising too many areas within the centre, yes getting rid of the trees and flower beds, and many high street names have long gone. But Accrington is proud of its heritage, you missed our wonderful old Victorian arcade but again, yes the Arndale Centre is virtually empty these days and there are plans to transform the area. The problem with many northern towns is that shopping trends have changed, online shopping is preferable to the traditional shopping methods. We have suffered with successive councils that have not had the vision for the town that they should have had but we are fighting back and we are determined to return this town to the vibrant town that it used to be.

I think CV’s piece painted it in a decent light. People were friendly and the architecture, although abandoned has stood the rest of time and could, with lots of investment, be returned to former glories.

Thanks for a walk through of Accrington. Recently been reading some of the coal mining history to the north of Accrington up to Altham so curious to see the "big city". 👍
The pedestrian mall "colourful" mural above the shops at 10.45 is new, used to be a mural of historical photos. Interesting seeing subtle changes and fewer people about on the street views and still further decline now, but it appeared clean in past years. At 12.10 along Blackburn, the pavements were refurbished 2018 and the Exchange with the large arch was refurbished 2021, prior was a vacant Pound Plus shop for years and furniture store in the 2009 view. Abbey Street certainly showed decline on street views.

Another disappointing video on Accrington. Yes, the town is in a bad state, but no research has been done on the history of Accrington and its people. No visit to Warner Street, where there is an assortment of interesting shops to view. Only a few seconds in the Market Hall, you could have got some interesting shots from the balcony, the Market Hall is a stunning building! Yes, the viaduct is nice. Why didn't you bother to get some interesting footage of it from a good angle? No visit to the lovely parks in Accrington: Oakhill Park and Howarth Park are lovely. Howarth Park is home to the Howarth Art Gallery and the famous Tiffany glass collection. No visit to the Accrington Stanley ground. You could have talked about the history of the club and its resurgence. No visit to Whalley Road or Manchester Road and all the interesting victorian houses on there. Accrington has its challenges. It really does need investment and positive ideas on how it can be revitalised so people from outside would be happy to visit. Accrington has recently received grants for around seventy million to restore the town centre: both the Market Hall and Market Chambers/Burton Chambers are to be restored. This should improve the look of the town and may attract people to it again. I was born in Accrington and I'm very fond of the town and its history and its people. No mention of the famous Accrington Pals and the terrible sacrifice they paid for their country 😢 Many of us really do care about our community and how it's perceived from outside. These poorly researched videos really annoy me, anyone can point a camera at empty shops and grotty takeaways and say, 'what a sh*thole'. You need to do better mate! And by the way, St. James's Church has not closed, it's a beautiful old church with tons of history. Such a missed opportunity 😢
