- Today we take a look at Equinix LD5, Slough Trading Estate, 8 Buckingham Ave, Slough SL1 4AX.
We speak to a few members of staff who all think that the company rules / policy applies to members of the public on the public highway outside.

These people hand over their rights so quick no wonder why the government has such powers over the people.

No high vis, no walkways. Also poor signs from what I can see, Walking around moving Lorrys
These audits really do show up the good bad and ugly company behaviour. This was a fine example of ugly.
Bear in mind this is the back, normal deliveries and customers use the front.
I don't think they are shredding paper but they are shredding hard drives and other storage media.
The business name on side of that truck as well as the sparks from the machine made me think the same.
Yeah will be HDD’s
A WEEE machine!
They are doing something else I have never seen so many cooling towers at a single site, they are running a server farm or parts of the internet.
@@cronocide It's a datacenter, of course they are running a server farm.
I used to stop there and say I was waiting for an access ticket for one of their customers, they would let me in for coffee, then I said customer had cancelled call. Better than paying at McDonald's.
🤣🤣🤣🙌
Are you George from Seinfeld ?
@@braddbradd5671 😂George is UPSET.
The combination of ignorance and arrogance of these people is utterly astounding. I always find it astounding the average numpty can’t differentiate between company policy and law.
To them, their master's word _is_ law. They have serf-brain.
Same. My head goes 🤯
Funny that !
About four years ago, I pointed out that 'Government Guidance' is not the law either and thus those who 'Tried it on' got short shrift!
So concerned about their secretive work, they have a big blue van with DiskShred down the sides.
DiskShred is there providing a mobile data shredding service to Equinox.

All that cooling power consumption and not a sign of solar on the roof!
@@MrRoyum You'd need an array the size of Yorkshire to make any meaningful inroad into their energy consumption.
The increase in these data centres is very concerning
Then stop watching CZcams videos. Where do you think the data is stored and served from?
Agreed.
Whats concerning about it, without them you have no video to watch. The name 'data' centre doesn't litterally mean they are collecting / harvesting data, they're just a place anyone can stick servers to host their website, application backend, etc. Netflix, CZcams, BBC, and your local independant plummers site all reside in datacentres. More sites = more space needed = more datacentres.
@@G.D71 I'm in and out of datacentres weekly and have been in the industry coming up on 30 years now, fairly certain I've got a pretty good idea of what goes on inside, but keep up the consipiracy work if that's what makes you happy.

next time anyone asks why ya filming, simply say "cos i cant draw!"
The more belligerent and ignorant the employees, the shadier and morally suspect the company is. It’s a law of nature.
@railworker8058 You are not far from the mark there. Data centres springing up everywhere does have a strong whiff of 1984. Why are they needed if not to spy on us.
For those who watch this channel regularly, DFDS (a truck which appeared in the shot at 12:50) the driver of the DFDS truck in a previous video got out of his truck and squared up to DJ and almost became physical.

You have the energy of a playful puppy when interacting with them. I don't understand how they can be so rude to you sometimes. Stellar work, DJ.

Can't be handling UK government hard drives. They post them out to the Chinese government!
It breaks my heart to see all that heat being wasted when people sit in freezing cold homes because they can't afford the electricity.
I would be interesting to feed it to a greenhouse. Problem is you still waste it in the summer.
Annoyingly it doesnt have to be this way. Hetzner, who operate a bunch of Datacenters in Finland and Germany use their heat output to warm local homes.
@@Rick-vm8bl That's because of zoning. In large parts of Europe there is mixed zoning. Offices, shops, housing, all together.
Here I suspect if you wanted to mix you would need a green field and they say no.
@@adenwellsmith6908 Yeah it's likely all related to regulations. I know in Hetzners case it was a DC that was built with cooperation from the local government and Hetzner willingly covered the costs for all of the infrastructure work which likely helped their case. Certainly wouldn't have been viable in a built up area.
That's why I look forward in the summer months. So I'm not using so much gas and electric. Therefore saving money 😆🇬🇧

There are few things funnier than a Hopped-Up Harry figuring out that he's not the Manager of the Public Highway. State of him, demanding ID from a complete stranger just because he's standing behind his master's fence. 😆 I just hope he realises that his master will fire him in a nanosecond if it thinks that will increase its profits by one penny.
Who tf wants to work when you can go outside and abuse a member of the public instead?

Love your videos every day but hate it when you're antagonistic and childish. If they're off with you just walk away and do what you've got to do.
Prohibited premises 😂😂😂
THEY PROHIBT ALL COMMON SENSE.
The guy at the end checking if you can legally fly drones on Google haha
Would have made more sense to get that car in and the artic driver, would be able to get out easily.
Very good point you make, but Do you think anyone who works here has Any sense ?.
Too buzzy standing around and making themselves look stupid.

Some right raspberry ripples among the Equinix staff , so coksure with the chortling .
Multiple staff members in a loading bay with no PPE! HSE wet dream right there!!
Best attitude with them, if they won't listen, be short with them. 😮
Oh, I've been to this place lol. Used to have some colocated servers at LD5 and LD2 but relocated when the prices got ludicrous. Somewhat reassuring to see the disk shreader guys there. It's not paper, its hard drives. They go through a grinder.
Those "housings for the servers" are 47u racks, so upto 47 1u servers (although usually you'll find a couple taken up by power distribution, ups or extra cooling).
LD5 is a pretty big place and is one of their main hubs with direct connections to the major networks in the uk. Chances are a fair bunch of your network traffic from home routes via that building depending on where you are in the country.
Thought you were going to break out into a "cheerio cheerio cheerioooo" at the end there 😂
It’s no wonder the staff are all a little loopy with that appalling machine whining away in there all day long.
A great shame you missed my building site at the back of these people. I would of loved to show you around a food factory being built.

Go on Dj
Equinix. Huge data centre company, who own a lot of data centres in Slough, UK and the world. You sure they are shredding paper? Could it be that they are shredding the old style hard disc drives?
deffo hard drives (and ssd's, nvme's, etc). DC's dont deal with paper much. Plus the truck litterally said 'DISK' on the side of it. Good to see them following the correct data destruction proceadures!
DiskShred (a Vyta company) shreds hard drives, DVDs and USB memory sticks.
Thank you guys! Great entertainment!

Brilliant video as always DJ...i myself used to enjoy flying drones to inspect wind turbines both on/offshore and had so much job satisfaction getting footage for customers..👍👍
I do love company policies. LoL
Doesn't look like they are a secure company to handle shredding sensitive documents.
Shredding hard drives it seems mate 👍
Why does shredding need more cooling towers than a frozen food factory? There are doing other stuff.
@@cronocide The building is nothing to do with drive shredding. It's a mobile service that comes to your site (usually big businesses and datacentres like this one) and litterally chews up hard drives to destroy customer data. Not weird, not un common and VERY reassuring to see them doing it.
@@Rick-vm8blthank you this answer is correct. shredding/liquidating hard drives to protect their customers data.

Brilliant work as always DJ, thank you - the only drawback is I've for some reason now got 'Harry Meets, Harry Meets, Harry Meets..' going round unstoppably in my head.
to give you an idea it would take the whole roof of solar panels to run three of those cooling units thats before you power the servers inside.
Great work 👍.
So nice of them to have so much exhaustion on the roof, the world needs more carbons!
"I'm me, you are you"
Reminded me of the scene from Rush Hour 3 _" He is Mi, and I am Yu"_
Funny that one. You handled that really well
I think it's a server farm....they provide the building, physical security, cooling, power, remote engineering hands... etc....and different companies install their servers in provided standard racks.
Hi Dj, great audit again thanks....looking at the car that came through the gates that you filmed into the back window showing lots of parcels with labels on. Pretty sure they are computer parts from Dell computers presumably for the servers inside....just thought i would let you know for interest. Cheers
Those guys were alright really. Seemed quite chilled out about it overall!
One of your best videos yet 👌😂
Those centres are pulling some serious juice from the grid, I hear now they can’t make the high spec step down transformers fast enough….
To be fair, it looks like a CNI site going by the hard security spec. But, if there's no flight restrictions.......its fair game. Also their CCTV signage is not UK GDPR compliant as it does not specify the scheme operator.
Theyre called "Racks" "Server Racks" ... The more you know :) Cheers.
