    I own several pairs of shoes from Charles Tyrwhitt. Some are 'decent', some are fine. One step higher in finish, leather and overall quality is Meermin 😎

      I agree. They are not fantastic. Shoepassion (Henry Stevens) are similar priced to Charles Tyrwhitt, but the shoes look and feel a lot better).

    shoes are funny, a year ago I was buying €200-€250 ones, Scarosso, Myrqvist, Skolyx, decent GYW shoes with not bad leather in the case of Skolyx, and I thought paying €300 for a pair of shoes ridiculous. Then I bought a few €300 pairs, Septieme Largeur, excellent leather, polishing them is a joy, very nice shoes, but there are minor details that could be better so I got myself some €500 shoes, TLB Mallorca, they were the first pair of what I'd call no compromise shoes and now it's really hard not replacing all my shoes with €500+ ones. Next I'm getting me some Yearns, €500 but handwelted and hand lasted but I'm also looking at €750 Meccariellos, arguably the best RTW shoes around, and Crockett&Jones. In 3 years it'll probably be nothing but Meccariellos and Edward Greens, it's not a cheap hobby, I must have spent at least €1.000 on creams and brushes and waxes and shoe trees and what not alone, but hey, nothing good is cheap.

      Wow, that's an impressive collection.
      I can totally understand your obsession.
      I just had a look at Meccariellos. They look outstanding.
      How long have you been doing this?
      Do you wear them out a lot or are you reserving them for special occasions?
      I am still at the beginning of my journey, so I am trying to learn a lot and slowly move up the ladder.

      @@Lukas_Schanderl I started wearing good suits and nice shoes about 5 or 6 years ago but I got more enthusiastic and dare I say knowledgable last year with my foray into Septieme Largeur but trust me, it's not a collection, it's about 15 nice pairs, maybe 20, there are guys here on youtube with that many Meccariello split-toe Derbys in tan shell cordovan alone, surely €100k+ in shoes, it's ridiculous. I don't spare shoes, I put metal plates on all of them, I prefer leather soles (I oil the soles twice a year), I don't wear them two days in a row and I use shoe trees and clean and condition them responsibly, but other than that I don't believe in babying shoes, in my experience, the more you wear them, the better as that's how they get soft and mold to your feet and develop a nice patina. Oh, and I put flat laces on all my Oxfords, to me it's a much nicer, cleaner look than round laces. Not that anyone else ever notices.
      Yeah, Meccariellos are something else, it's also top notch photography but ask anyone into shoes and they'll sing the guy praises, there's just something so elegant and proportional and beautiful about his shoes that you seldom see elsewhere, they move my heart the way no other shoemaker does.

      @@toobalkain Thank you for sharing. I just had a look at Septieme Largeur, beautiful shoes.
      To the average person, 15 pairs would be considered a collection :D But I know what you mean. It is quite addictive and each pair is unique, so there is always room for more.
      Somehow, shoes are the most fascinating clothing item to me.
      Now I put Meccariellos on my list of shoes I want to buy in the future once my funds increase.

    I know fashion moves in cycles, but I just do not see suits and more formal wear including shoes coming back. I think you're absolutely right, even though it would be awesome if it would make a comeback. It'll be a small minority who likes dressing this way. Luckily for me, here in Asia it's much more common, so I don't feel so out of place as in Germany.

    Yeah, it's hard even for pros to tell the quality of leather by just looking at it new, and it takes a while to develop an eye for what makes good shoes better, it's a bunch of details that may not be obvious to an untrained eye, though in your case all the black loafers aren't really good shoes, you can see with bare eyes the leather isn't great, it's unlikely to develop a nice patina and they also have that shirring of leather up front, when it kinda bunches up and then the leather is pulling on the sides, that's not a good sign, if they're lasted right it's supposed to be taut everywhere.

    • @Lukas_Schanderl
      @Lukas_Schanderl  Před rokem

      So even the ones from Dieter Kuckelkorn and Heinrich Dinkelacker aren't that great?

    • @toobalkain
      @toobalkain Před rokem

      @@Lukas_Schanderl Oh no, those two pairs look like they're made from outstanding leather, black leather is easier to make look more expensive than it is but dark brown is tricky, for some reason it just doesn't look luxurious with cheaper leather but these two pairs look like they have the depth of color really good leather provides, you're not getting that with Scarosso or Myrqvist, I can tell you that. And if leather is that good, odds are construction is top motch too, you don't usually see shoemakers use the best leather but cut corners on construction.
