After visiting a chiropractor for a few weeks, I left with this pain, and pain all the way down my back. I finally visited my doctor, who sent me to an IPA physical therapist in town. They were amazing! Turned out to be a destabilized C-1 and C-2 (I had never had this issue before the chiropractor), which they were able to help me with. Additionally, they found the Dura Mater was extremely tight, and have taught me how to release that tension. I occasionally do have issues with this, and when I can’t get relief at home, I find myself back in their office for a few visits. I praise God for the help he led me to! I hope this is helpful to anyone who might be still suffering with this awful condition!

I've had issues with TMJ, which has mostly gone away & now it's the back of my neck/skull that is in pain often. I think people carry stress differently, I'm in my head a lot & the breathing exercises are a great suggestion to those with upper/head pain. Moves your attention lower so those muscles up top can relax.

I've had this pain ever since my chiropractor started "correcting" my range of motion at the base of my skull. Went back a hundred times and the pain only got worse. After about 30+ visits I gave up assuming this was never going to end and I'm wasting my money. I still get pains but it's far less often and severe now then when I was getting adjusted every 2 weeks(ish). Crazy!

I’ve had pain in this area for many years. I’ve been through all kinds of treatments and physical therapy. 2 doctors suggested that I get frequency abililation (I don’t think I spelled it correctly). I had the injections 2x and they didn’t help at all. I actually got occipital neuralgia from the the procedure on the right side of my head, and everything is much worse now. The doctor said that he wants to implant a device in the back of my neck with wires coming out to hook up a stimulater. I said no freaking way.

I started experiencing neckpain at the base of my skull after cataract surgery. The glasses from the pharmacy would work for a bit, then type would blur. The ones for driving/uplclose weren't much better. Finally, I demanded a separate prescription for computer-reading. The opthalmologist said there was no correlation between the neck pain and my vision (!)

Exactly the same for me, im 24, studying medicin in Sweden. I have also had it for months, it started after an intense week in school with stress and poor posture. One thing that have helped me for pain relief in short term are a strong liniment/salve, in sweden its called "tiger balm" och "snake balm". I cut my hair short and use it on the back of my skull and it really works for some hours and allows me to continue studying. So buy the strongest balm/salve/liniment that the drug store have and give it a try!

There is a video from a different person about the atlas cervical vertebra being out of line and causing it to reduce the flow of the jugular vein up to 70% in some positions. The way he described it was that the jugular works as a two-way street. In with the good and out with the bad. The decreased flow traps too many toxins in the brain and does not allow for proper spinal fluids to get released. Don't know the validity of this, but it may be something to look into??

Howdy! I was in an MVA and ever since, I’ve had pains in the base of my skull & upper neck that radiates into the head (cervico-genic HAs); MRI of C-Spine shows annular tears & herniated disc, but no subluxation. Every doctor I’ve seen has no resolution. Any suggestions? It’s debilitating…

I do a lot of looking up and down for my job and I’ve not been able to shake this neck/ base of skull pain for about 6 weeks. Nothing really makes it worste it’s just always there. What could be causing this as you say you should see a doctor if nothing really triggers it. Thanks

First off. What is a physiotherapist? Secondly will we ever regenerate our spines like lamprey fish? That seems overdue and necessary.
