13. June 2012: First test-hoisting of the 300 square meter large sail.
After having been trapped inside a shipyard for more than two years, the large Viking ship is finally in its true element; the sea. Now the time has come to tame the Dragon..... - Věda a technologie
Norway: Let’s built biggest viking long ship ever made
England: Prays for god to not be raided
As a once wooden boat owner I am fascinated by the worlds different ethnic peoples on how they crafted their ships so many years ago and even today. Many similarities between various ethnic groups. Amazing engineering and skill that is necessary to build these magnificent ships!
I'm honored to see this!
Back in the 1950s a Viking Ship rebuild came up the river Themes, U. K. The crew in old Viking dress, They said they had come too invaid Britain, So a groop ove University students set out in a rowboat with dust bin lids for shields and floor mopes for weapons, And threw tomatoes at them, Or to them, There was a stand off, And the Vikings said they would come back. There were offers from France to assist the Vikings. It was more fun than the football finals.
hahaha. damn funny
Wish I was there , on the ship ..... hahaha
@David Odegard English , not 'Brits'
@Cryptos Cryptos Cold War relic anyone ..........
@Cryptos Cryptos so you should step up and do something about it.
How wonderful the tribute to Lindisfarne, the holy island across the sea to the Celtic lands and the chapels upon that sacred shore.
A truly beautiful ship, hail Odin and the Gods. A great way to honor the ancestors.
my god i can hear the English screams from here
Bit late mate, we're Anglo Saxon now..
😂😂
You mean the Saxon screams
Watch out France you know your next
🤣🤣🤣🤣🇦🇺
That hull is perfection.
this, this is how we respect our ancestors. Beautiful.
@Fran Ra no no no they weren't muslims😉👌
@Fran Ra You don't know the damndest thing of what my ancestors did. All you get your information from is deluded Christian monks from an age long gone. They are to be revered for their courage in battle, their amazing boat-building and much, much more.
@Fran Ra You're the kind of jack ass to degrade a chinese's interest in his heritage by bringing up modern day china.
@Fran Ra Holy shit nevermind, it's a bigger jack ass who should've clarified it as a joke rather than go on a rant after clarifying it. Must be another troll or not.
@@elgitarr_ Amazing craftsmenship.
now, we are ready to sail west towards england. Skål!
Southwest, but I can I join you??? Then we'll discover the Americas.... again.
Skål!!!
Yes, please do and liberate your Germanic cousins from the grip of the British establishment 🏴 ⚔️ 🇳🇴
Rumor has it navies from all over Europe went on high alert the moment Dragon hit the water.
Its fascinating how these peoples were seen at many points in history as brutal raiders, not so long ago.. and now are they the one of the most respected, peaceful and civilized neighbors a nation could wish.
How civil are they, being the number one country resting their society on legalized coercion and theft.
I LOVE you keeping your historic legacy alive.
In modern Greece, anybody who DARE to study openly the ancient Greece, the warfare, all... they "labeling" him as NATIONALIST!
An absolutely beautiful recreation of our ancestors technology, craftsmanship, and hard work!
I love these ships, so elegant and efficient. We have been to Roskilde/Denmark last year on our bicycle tour to visit the ship museum and the museum harbour, where new viking ships are recreated.
thank you for posting this Brilliant video i never realized till now the amount of skill time n the enormous cost it takes to build a beautiful replica of a Viking ship Great to know these rare skills still exist and are kept alive
A ship of pure skill artistry and beauty . Stunning in every way . No wonder it scared the hell out of folk in its day , nothing even close to it then .
Beautiful ship! I have been fascinated by the Vikings ever since I read the Longships, Voyages of Red Orm in high school.
A truly inspiring piece of engineering and ship building. Outstanding!
A huge effort to bring back Norway's past and glory. !!
It would have been really cool to see how many of the spectators could fit on the boat.. I bet you can squeeze 500 people on it. 😊
Not simply, but simply beautiful!
Just reading "The age of theVikings" par prof. Anders Winroth and watching this is just the perfect side dish. The book is as much interesting as this ship is well built.
17 english monks disliked this video :)
:-D
jjajajajajajajajaaa ..now they are 31 dislikes english , they were customers of the Vikings ... they must miss the sound of the horn , and their friendly visits .. jajajajajajaaaa
fimbles101 Haaaa yup
Because it was to cold to wash in Viking times there were no boilers!
@Markus Patients stfu racists shit
Are you guys planning on invading the west coast of Ireland and taking captives? I have some suggestions for places you might want to visit.
What a great job buy all the master ship builders who built the dragon ship. 10 stars for all of you
Saw it in Bergen in 2013. . It is beautiful and a work of art. Thanks for this video. :-)
Hopefully the ship is still being maintained and used as a living testimony of and to Viking history!👍👍
"Hey, guys! Climb aboard and let's go knock over a monastery!"
Congratulations well done
A beauty only few will have taste .
Many kisses from the sea !!!
Awesome! Thank you for sharing.
You could use many words for hoisting the sail, but easy or easily does not spring immediately to mind. But then again I didn’t take into account the fact that your vikings .Beautifully made boat, how they made such things in the day is mind blowing.
That baby was sitting just across from my office when I last worked in Norway. Couldn't have asked for a better view :)
So nice that ship. Vikings forever!!!
"Today, we drink Lindisfarne mead from curved horns!"
That it was brewed by St Aiden's Winery on Lindisfarne sent a shiver up my spine! Very symbolic!
If you lot hadn't come up the river Slaney on regular raiding excursions I would not be here. We even kept the locals name for us when we decided to stay. Excellent and beautiful looking boat. I hope you get good use from her.
FYI: Viking ships spent a whole lot of time in rivers so each was built accordingly. A deeper draft for deeper rivers and a bit shallower draft for shallower rivers.
Some did. In the Roskilde Ship Museum we have a large "Knar", which was used for trade and transport, also sailing to Iceland and Greenland. We also have several types of warships and maybe ferries?
Why not just have a shallow draft for all rivers ??
it's great knowing that there are people like this in the world .
Bellissima straordinaria opera di lavoro complimenti a tutti voi.
. . . may its sails always grace the horizon/and its keel kiss the sea/it will take my wariror lover on his voyage and when he's finished 'twill bring him back to me.
Possibly the most beautiful man made object I've ever seen.
What an awesome vessel recreation.
This is a beautiful build. I am glad that they build it to old Norse methods.
They didnt built it using old methods. They used powertools and other modern tools. If you want to see true replicas, you have to go to Roskilde, where they have build an even longer ships, entirely by old norse methods.
Rolf Kristian Knudsen many thanks for letting me know!!
The Dane is correct, but Roskilde is not the only longship in Scandinavia built using old methods. There’s three or four in total. One of them is docked in Tønsberg in Norway, an original-tool replica of the Oseberg ship. I know because they tried to hire me back when I worked next city over.
Wow! I did not realize how big these things were/are.
Congratulations, Scandinavia!
Must have been really important if Santa was able to take time from his busy schedule to dedicate it.
You guys did a great job. It's a beautiful Viking ship. Yeah, feel proud, you deserve it. It seems the guy playing the horn didn't have a good breakfast that day 😋 I would love sailing on that ship. I'm curious about the coin at the base of the mast (for good luck I suppose). I'll check other videos of it, sailing. Bravi!
Love that Norway as a country is still sending raiders out into the world.
Just following tradition.
Beautiful craftsmanship
A thing of beauty!!!
très beau résultat !! Félicitations ...
I did wonder what had happened to the dragon head!, Look forward to next video
My God that ship is gorgeous!
We owe you a beer! Bravo!~
A very beautiful vessel
I love the nordic culture.
Crazy Emu Sure is. Aslong as you Stay on the countryside its ok tho, all immigrants seek shelter in large cities
If they take over the cities the city side is as good as gone.
How about all the Mayan and Inca invasions of other empires. They were much more brutal to. Why should whites feel bad over our ancestors, double standards thats why. Yous are jealous of our great success and want to destroy it and justify it anyway yous can, but its comes out of jealousy.
People from Thailand are not trouble makers like Muslims but if they are brought in to many numbers it is a problem. Even if yous did not want to over take if millions of yous are brought in it will just inevitably happen.
@@crazyemu9338 Wrong actually. It really is being destroyed by insane politicans and stupified voters that keep voting for them. The immigrants don't come into our countries by force, but by being allowed. And nothing is being done about it.
What a beautiful ship .....Hal

I LOVE IT!
Wonderful!
I have been able to trace my ancestry back to the Highlands of Scotlands, the Lord of the Isles (Somerled), and through him to Norse Jarls & kings of Mann, Northumbria, & Norway; including Harald Fairhair (my 31st great-grandfather).
I would love to sail on it! Thank you for sharing this.
I'll bet your old man was a dustman.
Outstanding !!
Up here in Caithness in the far north of Scotland we have quite a few heritage boats. Here's the ones I remember, Isabella Fortuna, girl mina, spray, Dilligent, Kelvin star, barbara, sea ranger, aurora, dolphin, fulmer, Ida and quite a lot more! Caithness used to be in Norway too!
Ah yes, lindesfarne... the og viking spot
Just wonderful. Very spiritual process I would imagine.

Як добре що транслюють таку прекрасність.просто нарадуватись не можливо які чудні кораблі.
Now THIS is a launching! Not that stuffy solemness we usually see.
She is beautiful! 😍
I will be rowing the Dragon this weekend !
Where's the rest?! Have you posted the finished boat elsewhere? Where's the rest of the story?! This is magnificent.
The ancient ancestors would be proud of this re creation long ship build and I suspect Odin Thor Frey freyja would be too , hail the gods , it just goes to show the hard work and skill needed to create a large fleet of these ships to sail to new lands , and for one to go down in a storm must of been heartbreaking for the builders when you see the work carried out to build just one .
BEAUTIFUL
I would sure like to see some sailing that the ship has done in the last 9 years.
nice ship and realy big :P
WOW! Amazing ship! It is very round in the hull, does it roll a lot, like Fram?
Wow that must be the biggest Viking ship ever built.
I think the one they found buried is slightly bigger.
a work of art and an engineering wonder .
Sure, but it couldn't hurt with some decorative wood carvings
Ingemar Oskar true . i am always amazed by the shape it is so wonderful . it is so ahead of its time . these ships must have scared the hell out of anybody they raided . no one would have seen anything that advanced .
i still hope she will come to liverpool, she is so beautiful.
Awesome!!!
Amazing! :-D
Congratulations and fair winds.

How are the decks treated? Are they oiled with perhaps linseed oil or some other method?

Time to go....Viking!
Toasting the ship with Mead from Lindisfarne? Is that some kind of sick joke on their part?
Amazing prject though, and a stunning result.

Row her to Duluth, MN already! We're waiting! Skål!
Is it based on a original ship ? Like the Seastallion Of Glendalough (Roskilde, Skuldelev 2).
Just asking, because the danish ship, similar in size is based on one of those they found in Roskilde Fjord.
Anyone know how much this silk sale weights and how much a sail made of leather or linen this size would weight?
