CANADIAN STREET FOOD! Granville Island Public Market in Vancouver, Canada

- What is Canadian food? Well, what is American food for that matter? But we are in Vancouver, Canada and we were told that Granville Island Public Market is a good place to find out! We quickly find that there are a lot of food vendors that have a French influence and that makes sense in that there are areas in Canada where French is the primary language over English.
But like many cities, Vancouver is a melting pot and we find food influences from all over the world! Asian, Mexican, French and so many more are great 'Canadian' foods.

Just to clarify, the pie is pronounced tort-tee-air. It’s usually A mixture of beef and pork. Yours did look a little dry. I love to have it with gravy on top and ketchup, we have it every Christmas! Thanks so much for bringing us along! So looking forward to the train!!
💐💐🧡 nice explain
Thanks for posting your time in Vancouver. So jealous that you are taking the Rocky Mountaineer! It's on my bucket list (and i live here in Vancouver). So glad you had a great time here in Vacouver.
You're going to love riding the Canyon!
Just to clarify. There is only 1 province where the primary language is French, and that is Quebec. They do however speak English there as well. The majority of the rest of the provinces, while bi-lingual, speak primarily English. As you say, Vancouver is a melting pot of many cultures, and the food can be very diverse. Tourtière in our family is often for Christmas. It is generally made with a mixture of ground pork & beef, with a bit of mashed potato. It has cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt, pepper, and is often served with gravy or cranberry sauce. It is SO good. On camera at least, the piece you had looked on the dry side. Happy to see you are enjoying Canada. You will love the train ride to Banff. Enjoy!
FYI, The ONLY officially bilingual province in Canada in New Brunswick.
Yes your version sounds much better than what I had. But I am really glad I tried it.
My province New Brunswick is the only bilingual province in Canada the split is 70/30 (70% being English) . There is a lot of French spoken here. There are also pockets of French communities on the south shore of Nova Scotia. Growing up my Mum would make tortiere (tore tee air) pies on Christmas eve with a mandrian orange salad. Yum, a fine blend of sweet and savory
So glad you enjoyed Vancouver! I live on the North Shore, at the lower part of Grouse Mountain & couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Hiking is in my backyard & the beach in my front yard so to speak...NEVER tire of the views!
Sad to see how many homeless people there are now in the city. A very expensive city to live in but with the mildest temperatures in Canada I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
I've loved your Vancouver videos. We're cruising out of Vancouver May 2023 on RCI's Radiance of the Seas and will have a couple of days to take in some of what Vancouver has to offer prior to our cruise. I am as excited about Vancouver itself as I am about the cruise!
Banff is beautiful. Looking forward to seeing it again.
Another fun day in Vancouver. Glad you got to Granville Island and the Market, it is a lovely place. Must admit, as I live over an hour out of town, I don't get into that area often. I hope you had a chance to get around Stanley Park. It is the jewel of Vancouver. Looking forward to your train trip. It will be grand!
Can’t wait to hear about the Rocky Mountaineer!!
So glad to hear you like Vancouver. It is a beautiful place. You both are going to enjoy your train ride
I’ve been so excited about your trip on the train, you’d think I was hiding in your back pack (might wanna check lol) As far as this adventure, sometimes you just gotta unplug from everything & everyone to have some me time! Good for you! Take care & have fun! 💛
Vancouver is a wonderful place. It also has great Asian food.
Your next trip to Canada will have to be in the Province of Quebec, Quebec City during the winter carnival to experience dogsledding, staying at the Ice Hotel and eating the best French Canadian food! Are you up to the challenge?
Absolutely
I loved Vancouver
Spent some time in Vancouver many yers ago...this is where God would live, if he could afford it. Thanks for the video.
Great video 💐🌸💐🌸
My wife and I think you look great with short hair! Keep it !
Pagi yang cerah dan menyenangkan.penuh keindahan yang terlihat......good.
Wauw the views & the Food 😱 stunning .
We had friends of my parents that did the Train journey years ago they really enjoyed it .
From their Photos it looked Breathtaking ❤
Looking forward to your next video🥰
Love love Vancouver and Victoria. Try a road trip. For both We. Have been 3 times on cruises and 2x for extended time for a conference in Settale. Rented a car took ferry to Victoria and did a winery road trip pre Covid on Sunday they have a boat “dance” in harbor for summer season
Vancouver also has Hop On - Hop Off buses which are another way to get to Granville Island and other great places such as Stanley Park. As for Banff, it's my favourite place in Canada. It's stunning there. I have been on the Rocky Mountaineer train twice on different routes, I hope you had a wonderful time, as I did.
It was an incredible experience!!
Love love your hair! You look adorable
Great video look delicious food in Canada 🇨🇦
Tor- Te -air and the best are in Quebec or made by the French Canadians during the French Festival. Glad to see you love Vancouver. It is a beautiful place to live. Did you have the beaver tail yet? Nanaimo bars are good as well....very sweet but its a Vancouver staple.
The one place we found was closed 🥲
I plan to go to Vancouver someday, the vibe feels good. I hear it's expensive though
Welcome to our city. Wish we were able to run into you guys. Happy Travels.
Excited for your Canadian adventures.
Great video !! We love Vancouver !!!!
Thanks for your video, and I hope you enjoy your trip!🛳️⚓️👍🏼💕
FYI- tourtiere is pronounced 'tor-tea-air'. I love it, too, and make them for Christmas every year. Glad you enjoyed it.
Growing up in Maine with a 100% French family, we pronounced it "tout-chay" and it was always around at Christmas and New Years. Maybe there is a coastal difference?
Thank you for the correction of pronunciation lol my French Canadian ears were on fire!! 😂
Could you say what is the ingredients used ? 🙏
The mountains are really incredible and the Elk in Banif are all over town
We've been to Granville in Vancouver. Quite a large place. I don't remember what we ate from there, if anything. You're making my mouth water with that Taco Salad!
Amazing 😮
I'm from Vancouver and we call it aqua bus love seeing my home town on video thank you
Wow ,beautiful Canada😍,
You two need to bring your RV up here and explore the interior! I live in the Okanagan Valley in Kelowna.
Oh most definitely!! We want to RV all the way across Canada!!
@@EECCTravels well if you ever roll thru here let me know! I'll show you the sights 😊
Good foe you to take time for yourselves
Glad you had a fantastic time in Vancouver, Canada. Cheers.!
Have fun on your trip, you are doing a dream of mine.
I know you chose not to go short with your hair…but I actually love your look in this vlog.
Looking forward to your train ride!
We loved it. We rented a small motor boat and drove all around and saw a lighthouse. Very cool place.
That would be awesome!!
Been there done that and got the tee-shirt, me and the girlfriend at that time, also travelled from VANCOUVER to BANFF but by road, ( I had an aunt & uncle who lived in vancover, they emigrated to CANADA in the 1950's ,but both have sadly passed since we visited) we went through the fraser valley were we saw a salmon run, then up into ALBERTA, I have been to HOPE ,( Jonny Rambo country) ROGERS PASS, WHISTLER, LAKE LOUISE, BANFF and CALGARRY, such beautiful scenery, and loads i mean loads of trees 🌳 🤣🤣 What a holiday (vacation) I had only one gripe, we never got to see a moose, or a bear,or even a mountie in full regalia, red tunic and big hat and all 🤣🤣🤣 never mind, I have always wanted to return, finance's permitting.
🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 👍❤❤❤
The setup looks similar to beloved my Faneuil Hall Quincy Market in Boston. ❤
Yes! We have been there too. We love these food markets!!
“Tor-te-air” is the way you pronounce the dish Alisa was having. The best ones are made in Quebec.
I don't like it
As an Ottawan, I think we make them pretty good here too!
@@kimhayes7075 I’m in Ottawa too. Agreed! We do have some good ones here.
Welcome to Canada, hope the prices didn't scare you off 😬hope you get to see Lake Louise
Funny how I was literally just there with my class and got donuts (yum)
Not a fan of tortiere myself. Has a plain allspice flavour. Popular to eat at Christmas.
We took the little ferry over to Granville Island before our cruise. There are too many food choices in that market.
Enjoy the train ride. You will love it. How long will you be in Banff? I only live an hour fron there and would love to meet you. I really enjoy your travels.
We were only there for one day, it wasn’t nearly long enough!!
@@EECCTravels well I am glad you got to enjoy this part of Canada. Safe travels to your next adventure.
If you’re still in Canada I would like you to ask Canadians about the states and when you get back to the states I like to ask the Americans about Canada and see what the differences Or any other country
welcome to Canada! Is this the October weather😅? Freezing here in ontario today....
I mean, I grew up in Vancouver, it's warm, but....it's too long ago for me to remember and I see people at Granville Island wearing shorts
We we’re there in late September
If you come back to the east side start with Ontario. Come on out we’ll give you a CRAZY time!
Im jealous. I cant afford to travel like you do. 😒
Tortiere is usually very flavourful, and very rarely served with a chutney. You need to visit the Province of Quebec for real tortiere. Most French Canadians would never eat that rendition…
Get some candied Salmon, Yummy
You absolutely need to take time for yourself. Always.
the pork pie takes some getting used to. my Meme used to make it. she's french canadian
It was good with the fruit…
Tourtières is again from Quebec, I’am from Quebec, it is pronounce like this : tour te air
I always put ketchup on my pork pie
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Tore-Tee-Air not Tort-a-Ree
I want your life!
What no poutine? Ya can’t leave Canada without having poutine
We had some the day before on Grouse Mountain 👍
@@EECCTravels hopefully they did yours with real curds. Some places scrimp out and use shredded cheese but that’s not real poutine lol We love poutine. I’m not sure if they have the chain out west but Smokes poutinerie and they so many different kinds on the menu like pulled pork or one they add chicken and bacon. My kids and hubby LOVE poutine. I love it as well but it’s not low carb lol
Trying to pay attention to the vlog but the girl brushing her hair In a public restaurant is absolutely disgusting inconsiderate and distracting.
Came here for this. My granny would have died!
I didn’t even notice. I never seem to notice the people behind us.
