Serendipity again, a missing panel that created an opportunity for your creativity. A local lizard friend takes pride of place. God is helping you guys!
Thanks! It all worked out well! 😊
Oh my gosh I love all your critters 😂😂😂. The door is beautiful!!!! Perfect!!!
Thanks! Yes, the little lizards really love the screen on the sliding door. It's fun to watch them. 😊
WOW, i love that door. As an 63 year young wood worker i can't belive it what you have made from that door. That oil looks really fantastic. Thanks for sharing ths special part. ABout the bottom seal. You have to check it again after 4 weeks of using the door because all will set after that time.
Thanks so much, and appreciate the tip!
The door took a lot of work but was definitely worth it. The brass lizard was a clever idea.
The door and lizard add a lot, thanks!
Can't believe it took you an entire day to simply hang a door! Just kidding, well done. One day projects are very satisfying because they are instant gratification.
It's quite the job, glad it's done! 😄 Hopefully we won't have any more scorpions or centipedes, and less crickets and spiders.
Im always so happy to see your notifications. Your vids are so mich fun to watch.
Appreciate it, thanks for watching! 😊
Door is beautiful, and the brass lizard, makes it yours!
Thanks! 😊🦎
Also love those tiny lizards and walking sticks. 😊
The little lizards really like to hang out on the sliding door screen, and there were a lot of stick bugs this fall! 🦎😊
Beautiful ... I love it. The lizard is just right.
Thanks so much!
Loving the lizard! So creative. If it has been suggested already, it would make a great door knocker.
Thanks! That would be cool, but it's already well attached.
Great stuff! Love the door. Reminds me of the time me n my dad rebuilt an old door for our front door in FL when i was a kid back in 1980. 40 years later, after we had moved to TX, we returned, while on vacation, to find the door still standing.
I'd recommend you build a small roof over the entrance the dimensions of the stoop for added protection from Mother Nature.
I'm binge watching the whole series. It's better than HGTV. Your narration is impeccable.
Very cool to get to go back and see your old house and door!
Appreciate it, thanks for watching! 😊
Love the brass lizard accent on your door. I noticed the packing chips do not appear to by a plastic foam. Drop one in water and see if they will dissolve; if they do, they were probably made from foamed corn syrup. These can be added to compost or directly into your garden. I have used them as plant food for indoor and outdoor plants.
Trusting that you and your family enjoyed a restful thanksgiving holiday. Wishing you and your family a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace friends
Wouldn't have thought of that, thanks! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We celebrated early with the kids, and then took a road trip to visit more family. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and fall season as well! 😊
@@RedandAprilOff-Grid Actually, when I was still teaching at the college we discovered that they are edible and you can taste the corn. NOT RECOMMENDED for human consumption but our lab rats showed no ill effects and our plants grew significantly.
@@catgynt9148Wow, interesting!
looks great thanks for the update and please have a great weekend
Thanks! You too!
What a beautiful door. I love the lizard. At first I wasn’t sure but ended up loving it.
Thanks! It turned out better than we expected!
Great job, you have much more patience than I do. Thanks for sharing
Thanks!
Oh wow the door looks great. Your persistence at solving each issue was a learning tool for your subscribers! Love your channel!
Thanks so much! 😊
Maybe a piece of mahogany veneer on the back side of lizard? Love your house!
Great idea! We had some condensation on the coldest winter nights, and had to dry it off in the morning. Maybe we'll also put in a little foam insulation between it and the metal.
Great job on the door!! In fact great job on the whole house!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much! 😊❤️
Brilliant idea for the door. I love it. You guys amaze me 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks so much! 😊
Need one of those panels. I would do it to open from inside don't need open the door. 'what do you want' then dog not running through legs or round you

Ann
That would be pretty cool! 😄 Thanks!
@@RedandAprilOff-Grid Just say the word and we could blacksmith up a "speak-easy" style peek through.
@@honthirty_ Thanks for the offer! We don't get many unexpected visitors out here with a closed gate at the entrance of the property.
What a cool door!
Thanks! It's definitely one of a kind!
What a beautiful door, well done on all the hard work keep it up.
Thanks do much! 😊
Wow! I love this door so much! We have had trouble with our door. It has gone wonky. Lol. Brian Will definitely need to watch how you did this. Looks amazing! ❤❤❤
Thanks! It is a tricky process! Red has installed several exterior doors, and this one definitely turned out the best. 😊❤️
Looks great. Well done
Thanks!
Such a beautiful door!
Thanks!
Custom work is Tedious You are patient 😮
Yes, he actually enjoys restoring old things more than building new.
Good job, doors are so tricky
Thanks! Yes, there is a lot to it!
Love Older Wooden Doors, now Days.... Cost of such, would be Very Expensive.....
I was surprised you didn't do something for the interior side of that missing panel. I think i might have tried putting a thin insulating layer (like foam under layment for engineered flooring) and then something else over it.... A thin piece of mahogany plywood, or something to be a thermal break and hide the backside of the lizards bolts.
We are thinking about adding something to the back side, but haven't found the right thing yet. A thin layer of insulation is a good idea. The metal panel is very cold, but condensation hasn't been an issue.
The house is staying at impressively warm and stable temperatures just from the sun & the insulation layers & thermal mass.
Thank you
You're welcome!
Your videos remind me of the channel DIYfferent. You do things to the best of your ability even if you have to undo something, you have a calm manner even when things don’t go perfectly, and you do things the way you like them. Well done! Love the lizard.
I appreciate that! Thanks!
Gorgeous mahogany door! The frame and trim look great!
Thanks so much!
Fantastic door ! With all the unique building techniques and materials you have used, have you noticed an condensation anywhere with the change of weather in AZ ?
Thanks! No, everything is looking great! The winters here are usually pretty dry. It's been colder this year than last, we are already down in the teens almost every night, but the house is staying really comfortable.
@@RedandAprilOff-Grid Great to hear...it is such a cool design
Hi kids I really love your channel,
Just wondering if the gaps on your door will change with extensive use of the evaporative cooler?
Thanks! There is room for it to move, but it may need some adjustments eventually.
I wonder if you will get any condensation on the inside of the metal panel?
Haven't noticed any so far.
Most of the year, southern AZ has single digit relative humidity or looked at another way, extremely low Dew Points. So condensation, if it happens, will be during the Monsoon and will be on the outside or Lizard side of the door. The thermal conductivity of a steel plate is also relatively low so a coat of paint will sufficiently protect against potential rust.
