  • Filmed Sept 7, 2016: A tour of my friend Ethan's Subaru Outback, which he has set up for living in during extended travel.
    * I've arrived at the RTR in Quartzsite! You can find me between now and Jan 15th at 33.6545917, -114.1469726, that's down the road with the red "RTR music camp" sign, keep to the right. Do stop by, but please not before 9 am or after 4 pm (I'll probably be at the campfire in the evening). I'll be presenting at the work-camping seminar on Saturday at 10 am, hope to see you there!

    What a lovely unassuming guy, with terrific ideas for making so much from a basically standard Subaru Outback. It also shows a way to try out the concept of Subaru Outback camping without committing to the considerable expenses of a car top tent and a professional fit out in the rear. Very generous of you to share your experiences. Loved the acrobatics from seat to bed, very useful though if pouring with rain or if a departure is necessary without exiting the vehicle. Thank you, all the way from Australia where the Subaru Outback is a very popular and competent vehicle.

    You can definitely fit a lot in an Outback. This is one of the most efficient setups I've seen. Boy does he like cereal! ... and not dying :) Great job. Thanks for sharing!

    I bought mine to camp in also. With two artificial knees I won’t be pulling that front to back maneuver. Sliding in and out of the back is fine.

    Great no-build camper. Thanks for sharing it with us. But the contortions to get into the cot is a bit too much for me with back an neck arthritis. I would have to have the cot lower and enter from the rear hatch.

    Because my in-camp battery use is so low, I'm considering getting a deep cycle battery for my truck and just keeping a "beatit" jump starter in the off chance I run the battery too low to start the truck. Keeping it simple and low cost.

    So what does he do to protect his belongings from theft ( the ones on the top rack ) when he has to go into stores to shop for supplies, etc. while on a trip? They seem very easy to steal with just the bungees, etc. it would be a giant pain to have to take everything off the rack and put into the car each time, esp. as there is so little room in the car already.

    • @InterstellarOrchard
      @InterstellarOrchard  Před 6 lety +1

    • @InterstellarOrchard

      I don't think he has Beee, at least, not that he ever mentioned to me. He does have a skid plate underneath so that bottoming out doesn't damage anything vital.

    I am currently facing a issue with subaru 2018 outback, when you drive over a bump or over bridge where there are pothholes , does the front door of driver side make any momentary noise. Noise is like something just went off the place and then snapped back in. On the smooth road drive, there is no such noise. Have you heard of any such noise?

    • @InterstellarOrchard
      @InterstellarOrchard  Před 6 lety

      I interviewed a friend for this video, I am not in a Subaru myself. This sounds like a question for a Subaru owner's group or forum, which I know exist. I know when I have problems with my rig I always go to an owner's group first for quality feedback. I hope it's nothing serious, good luck!

    • @knn8337
      @knn8337 Před 6 lety

      Ethan's under 6 feet I think, I'm not too sure. The best way to know would be to go to a dealer's lot and get inside an Outback for yourself and see how well you fit.
