    Guys this isn’t a fucking metal album it never was in the first place. You can’t compare this to an album that came out 10 years ago. Very few bands stay the same over a long period of time AA has matured

    • @AggressiveTendencies
      @AggressiveTendencies Před 6 lety

      I'm glad they matured. The first few albums were unbearably bad. 'From Death to Destiny' was a maturation in a good way, but rather than embracing the glam metal/hard rock leanings and abandoning "crabcore" BS, they abandoned the latter as well as the former, replacing it all with some neutered attempt at pop.

    Just went through the comments on this video and i cant decide if thr metal commumity really sucks or not. The review was fine, the guy just stated his opinion, he doesnt like their sound and thats alright, but the comments, oh man here we go. First of all they dont state opinions, they are just saying "fuck AA i hate them" which is not an opinion, its just hate, its like your grandma listens to cannibal corpse and thinks they are satanic musicians, its excactly the same, we get it, you hate AA, you dont have to attack on every video of them you see, thats childish as fuck. Im sure you will all say that im just a butthurt 15 year old AA fanboy who wants to protect his band, but im 20 years old, i like their music, i enjoyed their conserts and im just a random guy who loves all metal genres and sub-genres, its really annoying when you see that you are more open minded than probably most of the "metal community" which sucks just like every other community in the world. Just listen to the music you enjoy listening to and let others do the same, you are not cool, nobody is going to give you credit for hating, so grow up, and if you want to hate on a band, at least state a few reasons on why you do that, most of the haters hate something because everyone else does, thats really mature oh yeah.

    • @AggressiveTendencies
      @AggressiveTendencies Před 6 lety

      Thanks homie. I welcome dissenting opinions. I like hearing what other people have to say. However, a "FUCK THIS GUY THIS REVIEW SUCKS" doesn't really SAY anything, does it? I like reasons. I try to give well thought-out critiques of the albums, and it'd be cool if the comments agreeing or disagreeing with me went similarly in-depth.

    • @communism_is_wrong7167
      @communism_is_wrong7167 Před 3 lety

      Yeah the metal community sucks fuck, The only part of the album the generic metalhead likes is the 0-0-0-0 breakdown which is a big shocker and it’s totally not like that band has done that for over a decade and try to change it up. From what I’ve seen though the alternative and the rap rock community are pretty good

    I'll always remember this review. I personally love the album (except for Empire). Ironically enough, I think in hindsight this album was the last time Asking Alexandria would really FEEL like themselves stylistically, as they would detour into Shinedown-like territory for the new 2 records after this one. They are apparently going back to heavy music for their new single "Dark Void" coming out on May 12th, 2023.🤞

  • @Mouldy_Cabbage
    @Mouldy_Cabbage Před 6 lety +7

    Look okay, this album might not be what people wanted, but it was good. And has good songs on it. It's not really metal so if your a metal head of corse your not gonna like it but to people with different taste it's a masterpiece, I listen to whitechapel beartooth disturbed susicide silence, lamb of God and all of that heavy shit and I love it, but I also listen to like twenty one pilots and sleeping with sirens and stuff like that and to me this merges those genres perfectly, so feel free to speak your opinion, but the album isn't awful, it's just your taste, AA spent a lot of time on it and there all proud of it. So yes you might not like it but don't spurt out hate to get your opinion Across, because it's a good album to some.

    So to all of the people who are saying stop reviewing crap albums... I think you got it all backwards... A lot of metal heads buy the cd or vinyls so covering crap albums might save people money and time. They should be covering bigger bands because more people are going to buy the album. It's a review not an album suggestion... Although I would love that "OVERKILL SUGGESTIONS"

    So much hate. Good songs are Into The Fire, Hopelessly Hopeful, Where Did It Go, and Eve. Bashing on their lyrics is too much. Criticizing the entire album or reviewing it? Asking Alexandria is still kicking ass. The screaming to Into The Fire shows a glimpse of what Danny i capable of doing in the studio. Appreciate their evolution, don’t disrespect it.

    It seems like a lot are complaining that this album was reviewed when it's the end of the year and not much comes out this time. Also, isn't it equally as fun to watch a review where a bad album is torn apart? I've never liked this band and found this review really funny. If every Banger review was them just fawning over every album it wouldn't be objective or good to listen to. Keep reviewing the trash with the gold guys! Great job as always!

    Agree pretty much on all fronts for the album. Did you take a listen to the acoustic version of the Into the Fire though? IMO it's the best thing to come from this release. They're not terrible musicians when you can actually hear the instruments and vocals rather than covering them up with garbled noise pollution and over production.

    Listen to the bonus track, Xplicit. It's a joke song but it's actually fucking dope, heavy. I only liked a few songs on this album but I think the biggest problem is the major lack of riffery. I'm fine with no screaming, Danny is a powerful vocalist either way, but the instrumentals were really slacking.

    • @AggressiveTendencies
      @AggressiveTendencies Před 6 lety

      Agreed with you there. Screaming doesn't make or break a band for me (see: my comment of I wish they'd embrace hair metal/hard rock), but this is way too lacking in terms of anything interesting going on guitar-wise.

  • @christopherbush5643
    @christopherbush5643 Před 6 lety +2

    Just kind of think that him reviewing an album from a full metal and heavy music perspective is a bit biased? Surely he should review it on the album itself instead of relating them to their previous stuff? He's pretty much just slammed them on not being what they used to be?

And I actually liked The Black and I kinda dig this new album and I've never been a fan of the band...ever! Just be open minded man, people need to stop taking Metal so goddamn seriously! Dave Mustaine used to hate Mötley Crüe back in the day, then later came onstage w Nikki a couple years ago and was friendly and mature. Remember how he used to say Nikki and the rest of Mötley were pussies and posers? Musicians have respect for other musicians. Nikki is a talent. Not the GREATEST bassist, but he was honest about his work. Asking Alexandria has always written their own music; so, even in their early days, I couldn't stand their music but I respected them for writing their own music and being honest about their craft and look where they are today. Also, I do like their new album

    I see where you're coming from with Where The Lights Go Out, but the lyrics on this album reflects the bands views. There were a bunch of bands that were influenced by AA, believe it or not. Their last few records, a lot of bands have taken a lot of ideas from albums like From Death to Destiny and Reckless and Relentless. Bands Crown The Empire, Wage War, I Prevail, Atilla, even We Butter Bread with Butter lol.
    Also, I think you're just looking for heavy riffs that make your spine tingle, if you keep that mindset, you're never going to enjoy music.

    Looked at all the bands he liked in the background. Expected a negative review. Got just that. The exaggeration of the year that that one song sounds like Fall Out Boy's. It's like every single elitist metalhead has the same opinions. And look at all these cringy insults in the comments section.

      You mean the magnets in the back? I don't select those, nor are they all indicative of what I listen to. Man, even my non-metalhead friends heard that song and agreed with the Fall Out Boy thing.

    The chorus on the all the songs are pretty good and its what lifted the album up but it lacked power in the verse AA always seems to go 50% with their albums and then fuck something up

      Agreed. Dude could do so much more with his voice with a more interesting musical backdrop. I repeat that I wish they would embrace their love of glam metal/hard rock and go for it.

    I agree with you about their new sound coming across as “empty”. In my opinion Reckless and Relentless will always be their most creative album. The new album sounds a lot like BMTH.

    I was actually hype for this album. But after hearing Into the Fire, I knew it was going to suck. What a shame. I just want the cheesy metalcore horseshit that they're known for back. Can't believe they didn't even have ONE song like that to appease the fans. Fucking hell..

  • @calebbegley3833

    These are all opinions and, in my opinion, this album was great. It represented a new direction for the band, taking them away from their screaming vocals and non-melodic style into something that I would easily put up as one of my albums of the year. Of course, you have to understand where I stand as far as music is concerned. I love things that are sweeping and grandiose and catchy and melodic, and this album was definitely that. I'm not a fan of progressive metal with 25 minute long songs that bore me after 3 minutes and I'm left wondering when the song is gonna end and I'm not a fan of technical death metal that's all over the place with no structure and rhythm. It seemed like there were a LOT of prog metal and tech death metal albums that were released this year so, for me, the good was kinda hard to find. But when I found it, I was NOT disappointed. Asking Alexandria, All That Remains, Paradise Lost, Cannibal Corpse, Trivium, Myrkur, and DragonForce all released albums that I found to be absolutely excellent in their songwriting and their catchiness. I love musical earworms and catchy riffs and vocal parts that stay in my head for days afterward, and I also love things that are atmospheric, which Myrkur had. I know I'm probably gonna get run into the ground, but like I said, it's just my opinion. I don't hate prog or tech death bands, they just aren't for me. (Although, I do agree with one thing on the review. The rap section on Empire was unwarranted. It's probably my least favorite song off the record).

    I actually really enjoyed this album. Just wish it had more tracks but they always keep it to a minimal. I’m fine with even the soft tracks but i wish they had a bit more heavier songs. And with those heavy songs be technical with the guitars and the build up to something awesome. Cause Danny has a really good voice and there’s potential. I hope the next album they take a step towards a more diverse sound.
    As for the rap song... i don’t support that whatsoever. Wtf.

    My first Asking Alexandria experience. Hell of an album! Biggest downside to me is "Empire." I couldn't get into that track at all, but the rest of the album is solid. "Into The Fire" and "Hopefully Hopeful" are stand out songs for me. Easily a 4.5/5.
