Well, you aren't far off, as blonde Launch she did fall into alcoholic depression, but it was after learning Tien died and that Piccolo's death caused the Dragon Balls to go inert permanently. Which basically told her that Tien wasn't coming back.
Don't over exaggerate, DBZ had plenty of characters to like and interesting stories to follow. Dragon Ball super on the other hand deserves that criticism.
