  • My trusty workshop broom which I've had for about 5 years and cost a fortune (£2.95) broke. Using some home cast aluminium I was able to bring it back to life for hopefully many more years of service.

    Nice to see someone make do and mend. Something not many folk do anymore.

      Thanks. It seemed such a waste to throw it away as there was nothing wrong with either the brush or the handle.

    Hi Alan. Nice to see you at the lathe again. Great result. 👏👏👍😀

      Thanks Andrew. I'm sure the broom will out last me now 🤣🤣

    Better than new Alan. Gotta love home cast ally, and it's free. Cheers Rob

      Hi Rob. Yep 👍 To be honest, for such a cheap broom it's not bad, decent brush head and metal handle. The only weak point was where it broke, the plastic part that joins the head to the handle. Now it's aluminium I will be very disappointed if it doesn't out last me 🤣🤣 Cheers, Alan.

      @@RetroSteamTech That weak point sounds like a case of planned obsolescence Alan. Trying to make you buy a new one. He He. Sneaky bastards. Cheers Rob

    Don’t just bin it. Mend it. Love it✔️

  • @BlueHeelersSteamEngines-Jim

    Most would have just stuck the old broom in the bin and bought a new one......its a great feeling to fix/repair something!

      Absolutely Kev. The annoying thing was that there was nothing wrong with the handle or the brush, just the cheap plastic part that joined them together. As I said to Rob, I'll be really disappointed if it doesn't out last me now 🤣🤣 Cheers, Alan.

    Great fix, do you keep the chips/swarf towards the home casting or is it not worth it must be great to do your own casting.

    • @RetroSteamTech
      @RetroSteamTech  Před 24 dny

      I generally don't keep the swarf as I have a good supply of free scrap aluminium. Yes, it is very satisfying to do your own casting.

    Nice repair job on the broom 🧹 Alan. I guess I've been lucky. I've had my workshop broom for 9 years, and its only had 3 new heads and 4 new handles 😅 Cheers Nobby
