Circe, by Madeline Miller, is absolutely enchanting on audiobook. Read by Welsh actress Perdita Weeks.
Yes I enjoyed that one as well!
i loved that. all of madeline miller is gold
Song of Achilles too
I’ve never read a Neil Gaiman book. I’ve only listened to him reading them to me. 10/10 best way to consume his books.
Same here, He reads them wonderfully!
He’s such a good narrator!
Thank you for this list. I have just added borrowed 4 of these from my library 😊
Truly nothing beats a Neil Gaiman narration, SO magical!! The only other book that has come close to that vibe is The Wickwire Watch by Jacquelyn Hagen, would highly recommend that to you!
And I personally also really love the Raven Cycle audiobooks 🤩
Steven Pacey is one of the best narrators I have ever had the joy of listening to.
I agree that listening to Good Omens as a full-cast audiobook is by far the best way to to read it. Sensational!
The whole thing about Steven Pacey being a one man cast is so true. I am up to Red country in the First law series and this man's narration is utterly amazing. He may be the best narrator I have heard.
Thanks for all the recommendations. Rivers of London is another excellent audio book series. Kubna is a fantastic narrator. Highly recommended.
Couldn’t agree more. Maybe my favorite audiobook series.
I’ve heard good things about it!
I love audiobook suggestions. The first two books of The Thursday Murder Club series must be experienced by audio. Narrator is amazing and has great comedic timing. For whatever reason the narrator changed for the third book and while fine, the performance doesn’t have the same magic. Anything by January LaVoy or Julia Whelan is also going to be a great audio experience.
Oh yes. Just tremendous.
That sounds great I’ll have to check it out
Thanks a lot! Your recommendations are very useful. I'll listen to four of your suggestions.
Neil Gaiman and Stephen Fry could basically read me anything and I would be enthralled. And since you talked about Good Omens - the audio production for The Sandman is ridiculous. So good and very atmospheric.
The series that always comes to mind when I think about books being elevated as audiobooks is The Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch. I like the books, but I doubt I would have kept up with them if not for the audiobook versions. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith reads them. It is magical to me. So smooth and with all the accents and voices for the characters!
I almost put Sandman on this list but do think in the case of that one it’s almost more an adaptation cuz they do mess around a lot with the order and have to ad things in you make up for the lack of visuals
Jonathan Keeble narrating the Warlord Chronicles, Tania Rodrigues narrating the Empire Trilogy, Josephine Bailey narrating the Boudica Quartet & Colin Mace narrating the Bloodsworn.
Keeble on Warlord Chronicles is amazing. His Merlin is absolutely perfect.
@@bbfire700 Keeble also narrates the first two Last Kingdom books! I love Merlin in Warlord, he is the pure humor element in the series!
Seamus Heaney reading his translation of Beowulf is pure poetry…literally. (lol) And now for something completely different…James Marsters reading Dresden. Plus the narrators you named all of whom really are exceptionally good. This is a much needed video. Thank you!
Anything by Rick Bragg that Bragg himself narrates is GOLD. Especially All Over but the Shoutin’, The Speckled Beauty, & The Most They Ever Had.
Thank you for these recommendations, just borrowed five of his from my library. I can’t wait to listen to them, the sample had me hooked.
The Outlander Series narrated by Davina Porter is one of the best in my opinion. She makes those books come alive for me! The books weren’t working that well for me until I did full immersion…fabulous!
Some audiobooks I love are Nick Podehls narration for the name of the wind, January Lavoys narration of the diviners, and anything narrated by Julia Whelan
Good Omens audiobook sounds awesome! I really enjoyed the book and loved the tv show, so this sounds right up my alley!
Best audiobook's I've ever listened to:
Aoife McMahon's narration of The Children of Gods and Fighting Men.
Juliet Stevenson narrating any Jane Austen
Andy Serkis narration of LOTR and The Hobbit (and recently the Silmarillion)
Yes to all!
I highly recommend "Hard Magic", its the first book of the Grimnoir Chronicles by Larry Correia, Its narrated by Bronson Pinchot
Thank you so much. I did not know Andy Serkis did an audible of lord of the rings, but I will be listening to that.
It’s so good!
I have been wanting to read Skulduggery Pleasant for years and never thought of trying the audio. I just tried the sample and it’s so good!
I love Steve West’s narration of Strange the Dreamer! I also love his narration for The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner. It’s one of those series I continuously revisit on audio.
Hope you enjoy Skulduggery!
A short great audio book is On Chesil Beach. It’s read by the author Ian McEwan. Loved the story!
I screamed when you said Andy Serkis’s LOTR’s. The power his has- I hated Boromir, I adore the movies- collect different editions of the books and figures. But I couldn’t read the books, the sample for the fellowship is of Boromir’s death- and I was shaking balling crying - that’s the power Andy has. He made me feel for a character I hated. I’m half way through fellowship now and because he does the actors voices- it feels like extended, extended editions of the movies.
My recommendation- not a great book, it’s smut- but the narrator was so damn good, I couldn’t tell how much I hated the main character until it was pointed out all the issues she had and then I was like - oh damn.. she good… - A touch of darkness, narration by Meg Sylvan- her Hades.. god damn. I was so pissed she didn’t do Hade’s in his book- A game of fate, I couldn’t stand the narrator of his book. Not sexy at all. But Meg for A touch of darkness.. took a 4 out of 10 to a 7 for me..
If ever in the mood for a smutty Hades and Persephone re telling. I recommend it. 😅
I listened to this and at the beginning, I thought the narration was weird until I hit the spicy secnes. Then, I was like OH😮.. 😅
I love the audiobook of the novelization of Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.
Dungeon Crawler Carl is an audiobook must listen
Do you start skulduggery from the book one or does it not matter
I’ve tried Carry on several times, but it didn’t work. When I tried the audiobook, it was just amazing. As you said, it hits all the right spots with the tone, British humour, and all the book is about. I think the narrator perfectly adds the element of parody, prolonging the same experience with the second and the third book, which I found lacking compared to the first. Discworld audiobooks are also excellent, but the older version.
Yes the narrator totally nails it
I really liked the audiobooks for book of the new sun by jonathon Davis. There’s just a dreamy haze to his performance that just really captures the vibe of the book so well! The second is seven pillars of wisdom by Roy McMillan. He sounds super similar to Peter O’Toole so absolutely perfect for narrating Lawrence of Arabia!
I liked very much Flowers for Algernon narrated by Jeff Woodman.
If you like memoirs read by the author, and other people involved - and I'll take a leap that you likely already like the Princess Bride - then I very much recommend Cary Elwes audiobook "As You Wish - inconceivable tales from the making of the princess bride". The book has little annotations of thoughts by other cast and crew and most of them showed up to the recording booth to read their parts, and what's more it's just full of lovely anecdotes that'll put layers into the movie and make it even more endearing.
That sounds amazing!
The Lady Sherlock series read by Kate Reading. In addition to doing the narration, she acts out the characters. Truly fine.
First law audiobook was AMAZING!!!
On the flip side, what books would you recommend that you HAVE to read physically?
Yes, absolutely: memoirs and autobiographical works read by the author are very often much better as audiobooks.
I listened to Skullduggery Pleasant and didn't like it enough to continue with the series, but if I did, it would definitely be in audio form.
I could list lots of books that I think are best experienced as audiobooks (as well as some that aren't), but I'll limit myself to one: the works of P.G. Wodehouse, especially his Jeeves & Wooster books, work well on audio, especially the versions read by Jonathan Cecil.
I’ll have to check those out
100% audio without words 😮
the fact that this channel is not in the 6 figures is honestly criminal.
let the arrests begin 😛
william peter blatty reading the exorcist, project hail mary are 2 brilliant audiobooks that come to mind
Rosamund Pike reads The Eye of the World ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
thank you
So the narrator for Skullduggery Pleasant is Rupert Degas, and he is up there with Stephen Pacey for me. Rupert Degas did the UK editions for Kingkiller Chronicle which my friend turned me on to.
I know Nick Podehl is super-beloved. I just can't. Rupert's version is on another level. I think he interprets some things wrong about the setting. Like all the Caeldish characters are given thick Scottish accents. And he pronounces some names differently. But I don't care. His voice is rich, autumnal, and resonant. It's made for poetry. His Elodin is pure magic.
Okay so I knew the UK narrator was different and had always vaguely wished I could listen to that version cuz I don’t like the U.S. one at all but getting this news spurred me into action and I’m happy to report I’m currently listening to the UK version and am so very happy - thank you
@@LienesLibraryAwesome! Happy to spread the good word.
Interesting. I just read Angela's Ashes and the audio from my library is so abridged I couldn't even follow the story. I had to switch to the physical book.
Oh no! It’s too bad they didn’t have the full version
first lie wins on audible
Is this a list for 10 yr old girls?
Yes
