    My longest video yet. Details, corrections, and links to additional guides can be found by expanding this comment:
    CORRECTIONS:
    - PostFX simply *being checked* results in 2-3% performance loss when GPU bound. Its still not much, but its notable. Clarity and Adaptive Sharpen have their own separate impacts as I showcased in the video.
    - High Quality Color seems to have a performance impact I was not able to measure before (when GPU bound). I will look into this further at some point and possibly make a video about it.
    Bottleneck Guide: czcams.com/video/__wiuch78k0/video.html
    - "GPU-bound / Bottlenecked": Your GPU usage is at or extremely close to 100%.
    - "CPU Bound / Bottlenecked": Your GPU Usage is below 100% / CPU is maxxed out at 100% / CPU is at 100% on one thread.
    Other links for guides can be found in the description. Check that too, and thank you so much for watching!

      Just as a clarification, I made a video on this ~1 year ago. Its been a thing in Tarkov for a while now, but it only really comes into play beyond the 250 meter mark. Its related to FOV as well (as explained in that video).

    Great video ! One important point about LOD : it also determines the distance at which you can see players. Players that are far away will simply not render (rather a singular black pixel will render in their place) if your LOD setting is too low. That being said, unless you're sniping all the time, 2.5 is usually enough.

    With recent updates that effect might be diminished, and it is possibly reliant on the weather conditions.

    The anisotropic bug is related to nvidia control panel. Since you enabled x16 in the past and then switched to controlled by app, it is actually turned off. You need to use nvidia profile inspector, select the tarkov profile, and search for anisotropic there, its going to be turned off (you control panel its going to show you "controlled by app"). Just restart the entire profile in profile inspector and there you go, tarkov anisotropic filtering its going to work again.

    Great video, its nice that you go through the settings and tell the viewer what they actually do instead of just giving up your values and get on with the next one. Im running a 7800x3d and a 6800xt on 1440p with high textures and for those who has hardware related questions all i can say is that memory either if its cache, vram or ram has huge effect on your fps. I just upgraded from a 7700x to 7800x3d and on the same settings my fps on Streets went from 80-90 to 120-135, it seems like the x3d processors where made for Tarkov and poorly optimized games. Also VRam is insanely important by the looks of it, with 16gb of Vram on the 6800xt i average around 20fps more than a friend of mines setup (7800x3d and 4070 super(12gb of Vram)) and we are using the same ingame settings.

    • @El_Satan
      @El_Satan Před 18 dny

    • @Tropoc
      @Tropoc Před 18 dny

      @@El_Satan for pure rasterized performance thats not true. Our comparisons are done with same settings and no DLSS or FSR enabled on 1440p. All testing done on streets, live on pvp servers this wipe. We have the same motherboard, processor and memory only difference is gpu. I’ve seen testing done with 4070’s where they are using AI upscaling (dlss) where they basically are playing the game on 720p with upscaling so it looks kind of like 1440p ish. They get great frames but they run the game on a lower resolution as a result.

    • @Handcannon77
      @Handcannon77 Před 18 dny

      I think it would have be useful to test the difference on other maps tbh. The reason I say that is the difference is probably most noticeable on streets(and likely LH to a lesser extent) due to the performance cost of running streets w/ high settings, but on other maps the extra vram is likely less of a difference maker and Id imagine that the performance is likely fairly similar(perhaps even slightly better/more stable for the 4070 super) on some maps. But yes to get the best performance on memory hog maps like Streets/LH, you basically NEED a 7800x3d, and a gpu with a ton of VRAM.

    • @Tropoc
      @Tropoc Před 18 dny

      @@Handcannon77 I hear you, but it’s meaningless to test hardware on a map where you’re neither cpu or gpu bound. Streets is the toughest map to run, other maps we are both at max fps but we haven’t tested LH yet

      Ram also plays a huge role in poorly optimized games like tarkov. Back when Tarkov was still new. I had an 8700k with a 980ti. Friend had an 8700k with a 2080ti. I had 3600mhz ddr4 ram o.c.ed to 4000mhz and tight timings. He had 3200mhz budget ram loose timings. We got damn near the same fps. when in reality his build should be about 20%+ more fps than me.

The game runs well at 2k at 80-90 FPS but wish it would go higher and it still gets the occasional stutter.
    I've tried DLSS with DSR factor upscaling too. I tend to lean towards this option because I notice less flickering or shimmering on distance objectives but it does look a little bit blurrier than TAA high.
    It's a tricky one and just feels like the game isn't really taking advantage of resources to the best of its ability while simultaneously having a really bad in game AA. I hope they improve this over time.

    Disappointed that this doesn't mention that FSR adds input lag, and that resampling is very useful on low end cards because it lowers your render resolution while maintaining the same window resolution. I play on 1440p with 0.5 or 0.75 scaling to get high fps.

    Hey Klem, thank you for the vid! About the shadows, I think the sun shadows on factory work differently compared to other maps. I've been playing on low and medium shadows, and normally there's a noticeable drop in shadow definition some meters away from you, with at least one more drop off point farther in the distance. But in factory my distance didn't affect the shadow quality at all. I haven't done any proper side-by-side testing, but I believe on medium the drop off points are farther away from you compared to low. Not sure if the shadow resolutions are different. I currently like using medium shadows to get a bit more "premium" look at a low cost.
    Some other things I wanted to say: Last wipe I tested LOD, and it also affected the max distance you can see other characters, at least scavs. Also turning down FOV had the same effect as increasing LOD in terms of view distance. Noise removes (or reduces?) color banding, which can be very noticeable if you've used post fx to help you see better in the dark. I also think noise helps having no anti-aliasing look just slightly less distracting. On my system there's a clear difference between anisotropic filtering off and per texture, so there's something going on with yours.

      in factory, i believe the shadows are all baked into the map, while dynamic shadows are from players and player generated lighting. i'm not sure if the rework changed this, however.

  • @wessredd7237
    @wessredd7237 Před 19 dny +5

    I have a tip no one ever says. If you have a large 1440p monitor...you can switch to 1080p WITHOUT scaling. Imagine your screen with a thick black box around it kinda like widescreen movies that have the black on top and bottom. This way you don't get that nasty blur when it's stretched. I gain about 30fps playing like this. And it doesn't bother me whatsoever because my monitor is bigger than I like for shooters. and it's as easy as using Nvidia control panel to set it up. I play mmos and arpgs in ultra wide screen with no scaling as well.

    The settings that affect Tarkov most aren't actually inside the Tarkov game - they are in the NVidia settings. Just try a night mission with +22% Brightness, +10% Contrast, +2.25 Gamma in your NVidia 'Adjust desktop color settings' for instance. There's a bunch other settings there that will affect FPS quite a bit. And Windows settings too - turn off transparency etc. Look forward to your next video where you cover these settings.

  • @AlexNovash
    @AlexNovash Před 17 dny

    Actually you can improve image stability by turning on virtual super resolution and changing your monitor resolution higher - 3200x1800. That way when you turn on FSR 3.0 you would get fantastic image that has base resolution slightly lower than 1440p, more frames than in native 1400p and higher image stability. Also I somehow got like 30-40% FPS boost with this set of settings.

    MIP streaming is more to allow lower end PC's still play the game. It's meant to take the load of culling that the GPU does and sends it to the HDD or SSD. If you've got a fast drive but shitty graphics card, MIP streaming adds a ton of FPS.
