I can clearly say that the Czech railways (I mean in global - vehicles, infrastructure, price, reliability) are the most advanced of the former "Iron curtain countries" and one of the best European at all.

Amazing video must be a great feeling sitting on a train in a peaceful carriage in the morning whilst gping past the beautiful river elbe scenery from Czech Republic into Germany dresden looks quite good but Berlin hauptbahnhof is even better with the big glass steel building and many platforms

Nice trip report. I have taken this train numerous times from Prague but the 0830 time I believe or close to it. It is an enjoyable trip, nice sightseeing along the way. Thanks for letting me tag along.
Thanks so much! I also traveled this train often. Berliner is one my favorite trains. Usually I took the first morning train at 06h26 when I traveled to Berlin or at 08h26 when I drove to Dresden :-)

8:37 The town across the river is still Czechia, it is called Hřensko. Schöna is just at the border.

Díky moc! No jejich vlaky se zas tak moc neliší, ICE se celkem dá, ale místa na nohy tam moc není a jejich RE jsem taky párkrát jen, ale je to jen trochu lepší City elefant v push-pull verzi :-D

I made this same trip in 2015 and now the train looks renewed. for example, the upholstery on the dining car seats is different, more modern but the same color as before. It is a nice trip, the landscapes are beautiful.
Yes, some cars have been renovated since then. Also, the locomotive is no longer replaced in Dresden, now the train runs the entire route with one locomotive. I also like this route, one of my favorites :-)

3:52-in the old days there was be track named "hrabovská spojka" (between the two buildings) 4:02-and over junction was be builded bridge

Unfortunately only until 2026 and soon the construction of a new line between Dresden and Prague will start. The Ore Mountains with the beautiful Elbe Valley will then be undercrossed in a 27-kilometres long (17-miles) tunnel.
@@ruhri0411 I think it will be much later, in the Czech Republic nothing is built according to plan, everything here takes a long time.

I know this route well. A beautiful journey along the Labe (Elbe) river. Czech trains are generally excellent as was this video. Excellent attention to detail; correct accents on Czech and German names.

This route around the Elbe is beautiful, I travel here quite often, sometimes in the direction of Berlin and sometimes by train "Krušnohor" in the direction of Karlovy Vary. Otherwise, the Ampz143s are my favorite cars on Czech rails, in my opinion they are more comfortable than railjet (in 1st class).
Wonderful trip report mate! Went to the "Sächsische Schweiz" a few years ago and also did some filming at Schöna station :D. It was also the first time I had been to the Czech Republic as I took the small boat across the river from Schöna to Hřensko.

Hi Ian. Thanks for watching! Beer prices depend on the route, in Germany the prices are higher, when the train runs in the Czech territory, Happy hours applies. E.g. Pilsner Urquell (0.30l) on tap costs 3.30 EUR (happy hours 1.7 EUR),
Great report, very interesting, detailed! The benefit of the train is you don't have legroom issues, relax and enjoy a great out of the window view like in this case. I can't help notice the most of the trains you catch seem to be quite empty. Is it just a case?

Thanks so much! It is only partially true that they are empty. I'm trying to choose a trains that leave early in the morning or on days when few people traveling. I also shooting footages in sections where there are fewer passengers. I think it's better than then hiding a faces. :-D

Hey. Very depends on the time and direction. The morning connections are better and also the connections that start in Prague / Berlin. E.g. trains departing from Hamburg may be delayed on arrival in Berlin. There is usually a delay of about 10 minutes, the maximum delay I experienced about 40 minutes when there was more repairs on the track. If you are planning a transfer, you better keep a time reserve.
A great travel experience.
I have taken this "DB-CD" cooperation train three times, and I have always felt that the facilities are very good and very new. I have 3 questions: 1. Is the manufacturer of this train German or Czech? 2. Is the train owned or leased by the CD company? 3. Has the speed limit of the BR193 locomotive used for towing been revised, and the maximum speed limit is 200 km/h?
Thanks so much! These coaches were made by Siemens. At the time of production, Siemens had a branch plant in Prague, where they were manufactured. These coaches were made directly for ČD and are owned by ČD. Only Vectron locomotives are leased. These locomotives have a maximum speed of 200 Km / h and in some sections in Germany they run at this speed.

Of course, in the Czech Republic, there are too many railway bends along the Elbe River, and it is necessary to wait for the completion of the new high-speed railway to make the train run faster. Thanks so much! I looked on the ČD (Czech railways / České dráhy) website and if "Adult 65 years and older" is chosen in the reservation, the ticket price is lower. Prices depend on whether it is an international route or domestic (discounts are higher for domestic)

Yes, some connections continue in the direction of Hamburg and Kiel. I took the first morning train, which only goes to Berlin Hbf., but I went back by the train that came from Hamburg.

Thanks :-) The maximum speed is 120 km/h Děčín - Pirna, 160 km/h Pirna - Dresden Hbf. Bad Schandau is in Děčín - Pirna section.
What a ghost train!
Yes, on Sunday is first morning train almost empty from Prague to German border, but from Dresden to Berlin was 2nd class almost full and 1st was half full
16:17 "Today, I'm going 1st class". You always do when there is one ... By the way, is the dining car one out of the last series built from 1984 onward in Bautzen?
The dining cars operated on EuroCity Berliner trains were built by Siemens SGP Wien & Moravskoslezská vagónka Studénka in 1997. Dining cars, manufactured by Vaggonbau Bautzen in 1984, are operated mostly on EuroCity trains Silesia and Cracovia and InterCity Ostravan. Between 2009-2010 they were reconstructed into Bistro cars and in the part there is a 1st class section (marked as ARmpee832).Btw. yes, especially on crowded trains is the 1st class a good choice for me :-D
Could Pete or someone please explain how tickets for this particular train route with Czeck Rail work? I live in 🇺🇸 in a rural area without public transportation so very limited experience with train travel. Sad, but true. I am watching all the videos I can but Europeans don’t mention how you get a ticket (I think an app?) but if you buy a ticket with an app do you have to have a copy/paper ticket with you? Do they walk on the train, ask for a paper ticket or can it be on your phone only? I am confused by different videos showing people buying tickets putting in a machine at the train station (certifying, verifying or something like that).
Hello. Tickets can be purchased on the carrier's website or the mobile app. It is important to show the 2D code from the ticket to the conductor on the train this is included on the ticket, but it doesn't matter if it is in the application, or printed. In any case, when you buy a ticket through České dráhy, you will also receive a ticket by e-mail, which you just need to print out and then show it on the train for inspection.
New Czech trains have very advanced and clear information screens showing next stations, ETA, speed and a host of other information. It beats the usual rolling text on U.K. trains which are often broken or unreadable. I lived in Marianske Lazne for 13 years. I often took "Krusnohor" from Cheb to Prague as a change from the southerly route via Plzen. My tablet makes accents impossible. Sorry about that. I think "Krusnohor" means Crest of the mountains. The train runs alongside the Ore Mountains and along the river "Ohre".
Yes, I know Czech trains, many trains in the Czech Republic are nice! 2 hours ago I arrived on Krusnohor train to Praha hl.n., I like this route, especially sector between Ostrov n.O. - Klasterec n.O. is very nice! Btw. I was born in Chomutov :-)
@@PeteBrandy I know Chomutov railway station. I was due to travel from Marianske Lazne to Teplice not long ago, via Cheb and changing there onto Krusnohor. In the station in M.L. I saw a RegioShark signed for destination Chomutov. So I varied my travel that day. A nice train, and it beat Krusnohor to Chomutov where I transferred. My English friend lives in Krupka. He's an expert on Skoda/Tatra and Aero cars. I was visiting to collect some parts for my British registered right hand drive 1000MB.

8:37 It is true that the train is already in Germany, but on the other side of the river is still the Czech Republic, Hřensko, the last village before the border with Germany.

Presne tak, v tomto miste vede hranice prostredkem Labe, takze prestoze jedu pres Schöna, naproti je jeste Cesko (Hřensko) 😎
Mám dojem, že po vyjetí z holešovic ta řeka není Labe, ale Vltava. :))
Jo, u Holešovic je ještě Vltava, ale popisek Elbe river někde čase 5:51, to už je vlak cca 15 min před Ústím n.L.(kilometrovník 501), nad skálou je vrch Kalvárie, což je u Labe a chvilku se na protějším břehu mihne i pravoběžná trať, kudy jezdí vlaky z Ústí na Nymburk :-)
Do Germans use this train to get from Dresden to Berlin, or is it only used by people coming in from the Czech Republic?
ČD operates this service for Deutsche Bahn. The Dresden - Berlin section is the busiest part of the route.

Pete, I have a question for you! Is it a seat reservation mandatory, obligatory for this train?
Seat reservations are not mandatory for this train, but I recommend to reserve a seat, because in the German part, trains are usually full even in 1st class. In the peak season, good places was booked sometimes even a month in advance.

Yes, at the beginning of July there was a partial closure of metro line C and part of the route was run by a bus :-D

Dnes jsem jel EC 282 a čekal jsem, že přejde právě na Berliner a ne, EC 174 bude čekat u 5. nástupiště. Normálně přechází, nebo už ne od nového řádu? A Btw jaký to je tím jet těch 200? To je někde před Berlínem, nebo kde?
Já teď vůbec nevím, jak to je, tím jak jsou omezený spoje, tak se v těch obratech nevyznám. Těch 200 je slyšet jen takový aerodynamický hluk, ale nic výrazného.. ale je to znát víc než v ICE, kterým jsem jel víc než 200 :-D
@@PeteBrandy nevíš proč chcou rekonstruovat trať z Poříčan do Kolína, když je tam 160, já tam dnes jel a byly tam už nové patky pod sloupy. Mohli by to udělat s výhledovým zvýšením na 200 km/h.
What a delicious restaurant car. After InnoTrans 2022 I want to do a day trip from Berlin to Hamburg just to dine on good food with an ever changing view. I emailed CD and customer service responded tickets go on sale 90 days prior to departure but the website doesn't tell me if CD's EC trains will be running on 24/09/222. It's very confusing.

It doesn't change locos at Dresden as it used to.
From 2018, Ceske drahy began to use Vectron locomotives; since then, there is no need to change locomotives in Dresden.

This train is busiest in the section Dresden - Berlin and Prague - Ústí nad Labem, otherwise in the territory of the Czech Republic 1st class is used by only a few passengers. So I took the most shots in the section where the least people travel. In addition, this train is the first morning train departing from Prague at 6.26 am, many people prefer later departures. I always try to find the times, days and the sections where there are fewer people, because I don't want to shoot people :-)
Traveled that line a good few times but always second class compartment. First class looks really naff, nowhere near as comfortable as second, and seats not even aligned with windows! You should have had a meal in the restaurant car, the food is usually really good and not expensive.
I have travelled this line very often for several years, the first class car Ampz143 is in my opinion very comfortable. Compared to the 2nd class there is more quiet, because it is not so crowded. I usually order in the dining car if I travel in the afternoon (usually on the way back from Berlin), a small breakfast was enough for me this morning connection.

That carriage was facing the opposite direction than it usually is. The highest occupancy is usually in the section Dresden - Berlin and Prague - Ústí nad Labem. But the 1st morning train tends to be more crowded from Dresden.
I really dont like the czech Ampz. I think the hungarian Amz coach are more comfy, more private. Also its very aggravating you cant control lights and heating/cooling on the ampz. They dont even dim out the lights for the nighttime journeys. No curtains. I very much prefer the cabin 1st class coaches.
More comfy, more friendly, more spacious, controlled heating and cooling, controlled lights.
I think it depends a lot on the situation. For me as a solo traveler, the Ampz143 / 146 is the ideal coach. Of course, compartment coaches are great for being able to regulate lighting or temperature. But if the train is more busy, it's not very pleasant to share a compartment with other people, in this case a solo airline style seat is better for me.
@@PeteBrandy Thats true since you dont have to share the space. So yeah i agree on that. But oh boy if you do manage to get a compartment to yourself its so much more better.

To by bylo fajn. Dřív jezdil přes Brno z Berlína jednou denně railjet, tak snad ho zas obnoví. Ale kdoví jak to bude, až se bude jezdit přes Vysočinu.
Na EC Slovenská Strela jezdí souprava z Berlineru
Nemohu si pomoci, ale ty kupéčka mi připadají jako jednička mnohem více, než ten otevřenej vagón.
Jo, kupéčka v Bmz jsou pohodlná, ale pořád je tam v porovnání s 1. třídou méně prostoru, vozy typu UIC-Z mívají ve 2. třídě 11 oddílů a v první jen 9. A zrovna jednička Ampz co jezdí na Berlineru jsou moje oblíbené velkoprostory.

This is really slow. 4 hours for this distance is enexcusable these days.
Yes unfortunately. Part of the Berlin Dresden line is already accelerating. The slowest is the section through Saxon and Czech Switzerland (between Děčín and Pirna), where it is only a maximum of 120 km/h, the section Prague - Ústí nad Labem has a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Most of the track in the area runs along the valleys of the Elbe and Vltava rivers and has many curves. The construction of a high-speed line is planned, but it will lead partly in tunnels.
@@PeteBrandy BTW, has the high speed service to bratislava from prague been nixed? I only see city jet and rail jet trains on the schedule. Bummer, if so

The train was quite busy in the 2nd class, especially in the German section of the journey, in the 2nd class there was only one empty compartment. Empty 1st class is normal in the Czech Republic, because not many passengers here use it (it's quite expensive for many people), but in the section Dresden - Berlin the load factor was 50%. The dining car was of course empty, because it was the first morning train (departure from Prague at 06.26 am). Btw. the next train that departs two hours later, is usually almost full.
